Bicycle ride along the Muskegon Lakeshore Trail. Over 18 miles of very pretty trails.
My wife and I took a fun bicycle ride on the Muskegon Lakeshore Trail in Muskegon, MI. Very nice ride with much to see along the way. Over 18 miles of paved pathway. Very well maintained with a BUNCH of boardwalk areas. Very enjoyable views of Muskegon Lake and Lake Michigan along with several other rivers, creeks, sand dunes, and a lot of other natural and man made things. Several parks along the way with water and restrooms available.

Laketon Ave and Lakeshore Bike Trails. Michigan Bike Path Series
Take a ride on Muskegon's Laketon Avenue & Lakeshore Bike Trails to the music of the Bob Warnaar & Larry Bird Skylarks (Fruitport Pavilion 1962) Big Bands. The Laketon Avenue trail is built on the road bed of the Toledo Saginaw & Muskegon and Muskegon Railway & Navigation Company known as the Belt Line. The TS&M never reached Toledo let alone Saginaw. But it did reach Muskegon from Ashly(off M57) where it connected with the GTW's Port Huron- Durand/ Detroit line via Middleton , Carson City & Greenville(Where the Kalvanator/Electrolux plant was located) It was called the Turkey Trail by the Grand Trunk Western train crews because of its many curves. After WW2 it was cut back from Greenville to Muskegon. There is only one TS&M depot remaining. It is in Sparta and is home to the West Michigan Railroad Historical Society and its railroad equipment display. However a section along Laketon Avenue remained as an industrial spur. It remained in service until the 1980's when the customers turned to trucking. It is this section that the Laketon Avenue Trail is built on. The Muskegon Railway & Navigation Company was owned by the Grand Trunk Western(The railroad Grand Funk Railroad was named after). It connected the GTW & Pennsylvania Railroad(featured on the Monopoly game) from Muskegon Heights to the Mart dock in downtown Muskegon. It was taken out of service and the tracks removed in the 1980's. The MR&NC roadbed was acquired in the early 2000's to connect the Laketon Avenue Trail with the Lakeshore Trail via Southern Avenue. It was paved in about 2008. The railroad did not have all those curves. The Bike path designers put those in. The Lakeshore Trail was never a railroad. It was built as a bike path. It runs along the shore of Muskegon Lake and past Downtown Muskegon. The section I am showing was once heavily industrialized with foundries, oil tank farms and other heavy industries. The shore was once an industrial dump site. This was cleaned up through the Obama stimulus program and has returned the area to what it once was before industrialization. This section goes past Coles Bakery where garlic bread is made, high priced condos, the entrance to the Lake Express high speed Carferry to Milwaukee and over lengthy board walks over wet lands. The trail ends at Lakeshore Drive & McCracken. Crossing McCracken and turning right will take you to Muskegon's Pere Marquette (Pier Mar Ket) Park and Lake Michigan.

BETSIE VALLEY BIKE TRAIL (Between Beulah and Frankfort, Michigan) - By: Norm Rasmussen
Norm & Kathleen Rasmussen biked the Betsie Vally Bike Trail in July 2011 from the city of Beulah to Frankfort, Michigan. This is one of the most enjoyable bike trips you could ever take. It isn't overly challenging for the average person because it's only about a 10 mile trip.

Michigan Bike Camping on the Hart-Montague Trail
This is a timelapse from our GoPro of our family bike camping trip on the Hart-Montague Trail State Park. We started in Montague and rode up to Hart and camped for the night at John Gurney Park. The battery on our camera died just as we finished the rail trail and started biking through the town of Hart on our way to the campground.

Scenic 26+ mile bike trail - Little Traverse Wheelway in Petoskey MI
The Little Traverse Wheelway is 26 miles of dedicated trail, from downtown Charlevoix to downtown Harbor Springs.
The “Bike Path”, as it is locally called, runs 26 miles from Charlevoix to Harbor Springs in Charlevoix and Emmet Counties. The trail is mostly dedicated and paved in asphalt. It is currently the best developed and most suburban of our trunk line trails. The part between Petoskey’s Bayfront Park to Petoskey State Park follows closely the path of the original Little Traverse Wheelway that stretched from Petoskey to Harbor Springs in the 1880s and ‘90s. A gate over the trail at the east end of Bayfront Park proclaims “No Teaming or Driving,” and replicates the original gate that stood at nearly the same spot. This gate is a reminder of a time when people were prohibited from riding horses or horse-drawn carriages on the trail. Two other identical gates have been built to the west on Petoskey’s portion of the trail.
In late 2008 construction was completed on the 1.4 mile “Resort Bluffs” segment between East Park in Bay Harbor and Magnus Park in Petoskey. This new trail replaces the “road shoulder “segment that had forced users to ride along US 31.

A hike around the trails at PJ Hoffmaster State Park near Muskegon, Michigan. 9/6/216
A 4.5 mile hike around the trails at PJ Hoffmaster State Park. I started at the day use beach and hiked a couple of the trails by the beach, through the dunes, and up many stairs. It was a hot day for this type of year, but I had a fun walk. My wife stayed at the beach as I hiked and spent another hour on the beach when I was done. The trails were fairly difficult, as there's a lot of sand and elevation changes (obviously...it's the dunes). The area was not crowded at all since it was the day after labor day.

Fat Bike Beach Ride at Muskegon State Park
A GoPro time-lapse of my fat bike ride starting from the Channel Campground in Muskegon State Park and heading north along the beach. I planned to ride up to Duck Lake State Park, but at about 7 miles out I was stopped by maze of breakwalls out in the water.
