Nestled on 62 oceanfront acres, the 1240 guest room Hilton Waikoloa Village offers a Kohala Coast family vacation like no other.
Make your way through the expansive lobby, past the colorful parrots, and take the tram to your guest room. Yes, the resort is that big!
While the comfortable guest rooms are a looking a little dated, the view from your balcony will never get old.
Enjoy a Big Island breakfast at Water's Edge where you'll be tempted by fresh baked pastries, fresh island fruits, and American and Japanese fare.
After fueling up for the day, discover the resort's very own 4 acre, ocean fed, salt-water lagoon--teeming with tropical fish and green sea turtles.
While the kids can enjoy snorkeling and various other water sports, grown-ups can enjoy a more relaxing day.
And the entire family will love Dolphin Quests where you can touch, feed, play, learn and swim with the impressive mammals.
When the sun goes down, head to the Legends of the Pacific luau. Located within the grounds of the resort, this laua offers the exotic dances and music of the Pacific Rim accompanied by a buffet dinner.

Waimea Canyon Inside-Out Voices in the Wind by Lee Eisenstein
The Grand Canyon of the Pacific
- Mark Twain said that
and of Hawaii -
the loveliest fleet of islands
that lies anchored
in any ocean.
The Garden Island's grand attraction
can be enjoyed from Kokee Road
and its panoramic lookouts
but to fully appreciate its
stunning beauty
take the 3000 ft descent
to Waimea Canyon's forested floor
via the Kukui Trail.
Better be in shape it is steep.
Best go when dry as the river
is prone to flash floods
Spend a week
and follow Waimea River
up into Koaie Canyon
where you will find
deep clear pools
and serenity.

Hawaiians and visitors ring in the new decade
(1 Jan 2020) Revelers packed beaches from Waikiki to the Big Island as Hawaiians, visitors and transplants to the islands prepared to ring in the new decade.
A strong winter swell brought heavy waves to north and west facing shores of the islands Tuesday, nearly triggering the iconic Waimea Bay big wave contest named after Hawaiian surfing legend Eddie Aikau.
The waves weren't quite big enough for the green light on the North Shore Oahu surfing competition, but waters across the archipelago saw above-average sets of rollers that some surfers took full advantage of.
On Oahu, people packed the streets of Waikiki where a fireworks display would welcome 2020.
But across the island at Ko Olina and Turtle Bay resorts, people gathered to the sounds of bumping music as tiki torches burned along walkways.
Comedian Bill Maher was spotted leaving one hotel as he prepared for his annual comedy show in Honolulu.
Fireworks displays both big and small were expected across the islands as the sanctioned shows competed with the islands' less legal versions of the explosive festivities in neighbourhoods.
At Ko Olina Resort on Oahu's west side, people watched the sun dip below the horizon of the Pacific as the sky turned shades of orange and red before a deep blue took over ahead the New Year celebrations.
A traditional Hawaii luau was set for later in the evening with fire and hula dancers entertaining the crowds.

SUMMARY
=======
Hawaii ( ( listen) hə-WY-ee; Hawaiian: Hawaiʻi [həˈvɐjʔi]) is the 50th and most recent state to have joined the United States, having received statehood on August 21, 1959. Hawaii is the only U.S. state located in Oceania, the only U.S. state located outside North America, and the only one composed entirely of islands. It is the northernmost island group in Polynesia, occupying most of an archipelago in the central Pacific Ocean. The state encompasses nearly the entire volcanic Hawaiian archipelago, which comprises hundreds of islands spread over 1,500 miles (2,400 km). At the southeastern end of the archipelago, the eight main islands are—in order from northwest to southeast: Niʻihau, Kauaʻi, Oʻahu, Molokaʻi, Lānaʻi, Kahoʻolawe, Maui, and the Island of Hawaiʻi. The last is the largest island in the group; it is often called the Big Island or Hawaiʻi Island to avoid confusion with the state or archipelago. The archipelago is physiographically and ethnologically part of the Polynesian subregion of Oceania.
Hawaii's diverse natural scenery, warm tropical climate, abundance of public beaches, oceanic surroundings, and active volcanoes make it a popular destination for tourists, surfers, biologists, and volcanologists. Because of its central location in the Pacific and 19th-century labor migration, Hawaii's culture is strongly influenced by North American and East Asian cultures, in addition to its indigenous Hawaiian culture. Hawaii has over a million permanent residents, along with many visitors and U.S. military personnel. Its capital is Honolulu on the island of Oʻahu.
Hawaii is the 8th-smallest and the 11th-least populous, but the 13th-most densely populated of the 50 U.S. states. It is the only state with an Asian plurality. The state's oceanic coastline is about 750 miles (1,210 km) long, the fourth longest in the U.S. after the coastlines of Alaska, Florida, and California.

Playing For Change is a movement created to inspire and connect the world through music, born from the shared belief that music has the power to break down boundaries and overcome distances between people. Our primary focus is to record and film musicians performing in their natural environments and combine their talents and cultural power in innovative videos we call Songs Around The World. Creating these videos motivated us to form the Playing For Change Band—a tangible, traveling representation of our mission, featuring musicians met along our journey, and establish the Playing For Change Foundation—a separate 501(c)3 nonprofit organization dedicated to building music and art schools for children around the world. Through these efforts, we aim to create hope and inspiration for the future of our planet.

Riding from the Lagoon Tower to the Palace Tower. It has been said that these are not the fastest means of transit, but it is Hawaii, and everything runs on Island time. Which is a much more relaxed and easy going way of living than the hectic, overly busy way of life that is synonymous with continental living. This is not the New York Subway, it is resort style living. Something that is great retreat from normal, everyday life. They were built in Switzerland, yet the interior signage has both English and Japanese writing. This bilingual signage is a very common sight in Hawaii, no matter what island or community you are in.
