Little River Canyon
Recorded October 26, 2019
This video covers my scenic autumn visit to the Little River Canyon National Preserve on top of Lookout Mountain near Fort Payne, Alabama. The preserve protects what is sometimes said to be the nation's longest mountaintop river, the Little River. The undammed river is said to be among the cleanest and wildest waterways in the South. Sandstone cliffs tower up to 600 feet above the narrow canyon floor and are frequently visible from the 23-mile scenic parkway which is featured in this video. Little River Falls is located within the preserve and marks the beginning of the Little River Canyon. Grace's High Falls, which falls into the side canyon created by Bear Creek is Alabama's highest waterfall at 133 feet. Other overlooks visited in this video are Lynn Overlook, Hawks Glide, Canyon View, Wolf Creek Overlook and Eberhart Point Overlook.
After leaving the preserve I drive 39 miles south to Gadsden, Alabama to visit Noccalula Falls which plunges 90-feet into the Black Creek Gorge.

Aerial of Desoto Falls - Little River Canyon - Mentone Alabama
The Falls was filmed using my DJI Phantom 2 Quadcopter with a GoPro Hero4 Camera.
Desoto Falls just outside Mentone, Alabama on the West Fork of Little River falls off exactly 104 feet to form a beautiful cascading waterfalls. The water that flows from the falls is one of the primary tributaries of the Little River, one of the few rivers in all of North America that flows almost entirely on the top of a mountain.
Over the past thousand or so years this beautiful river has carved several unbelievably magnificent canyons into the surface of Lookout Mountain.
Sitting above the falls is A. A. Miller Dam constructed in 1925 to provide hydro electric power to the surrounding area. When first constructed the original dam was only ten feet high, but locals help raise money to add another ten feet to the dam in order to create a larger lake for recreational purposes.
At its peak, Miller’s Dam, also known as DeSoto Falls Dam, generated enough power to supply Mentone, Valley Head, Fort Payne, Collinsville and Menlo, Georgia.
Miller eventually accumulated around 300 acres of land surrounding DeSoto Falls with the intent to develop the breathtaking area, but the Great Depression brought those intentions to a halt.
The concrete pad that supported the generator and the feed pipe are all that remain of North Alabama’s first hydroelectric power plant.
DeSoto Falls is one of the primary features of DeSoto State Park. The park is a beautiful recreation area that was made possible by the hard work of the Civilian Conservation Corps or the CCC. The main area of the park is located a short drive south of the waterfalls and offers plenty of amenities.
The park offers nine trails; some of those are biker friendly. It also offers cabins and chalets, a motel, restaurant, store and picnic area. It is also a resort park, with plenty of campsites to choose from.
DeSoto Falls is open daily during daylight hours. One of its features includes a beautiful lake that begs to be swam in.
The falls are located just off Lookout Mountain Parkway on the western edge of the town of Mentone. The route to the waterfalls is well marked by signs in both Mentone and along the roadside of Alabama Highway 35 as it leads south from Interstate 59 at Fort Payne.

DeSoto Falls is a 100' Falls in Mentone, Alabama that is part of the DeSoto State Park system. This a view from an overlook across from the park area and below the A.A. Miller Dam. Little River that forms this fall and several others is a scenic wild river that travels it's whole length on top of Lookout Mountain. The natural beauty of this river and this area is worth the drive along Lookout Mountain Parkway.

Little River Canyon National Preserve is a United States National Preserve located on top of Lookout Mountain near Fort Payne, Alabama, and DeSoto State Park. Created by an act of Congress in 1992, the nearly 14,000-acre (5,700 ha) preserve protects what is sometimes said to be the nation's longest mountaintop river, the Little River. The canyon was historically called May's Gulf, gulf being a common term throughout the Cumberland Plateau for this sort of feature (e.g. Savage Gulf in Tennessee, or Trenton Gulf nearby in Georgia, now renamed Cloudland Canyon). The canyon is sometimes said to be the deepest canyon in the United States east of the Mississippi River. Prior to being assigned to the National Park Service, the canyon area formed the southmost unit of Alabama's DeSoto State Park.

Talladega National Forest 600-1 - Alabama
Talladega National Forest 600-1 is a popular destination for enthusiasts across the Southeast. The 14-mile-long road follows the ridgeline of Horns Mountain located in the beautiful Talladega National Forest. When travelling north on the trail, the road climbs up the mountain from the White Gap valley and follows the peak of the ridge north. The road is passable by most vehicles and is only rough in a few short sections. The road winds through old growth hardwood and pine forests with several excellent camping spots along the way. There are several overlooks along the trail offering stunning views of the surrounding valleys and mountains. The road was originally built by the Civilian Conservation Corps and passes by the original fire lookout tower constructed on the peak of the mountain. 600-1 has a lot to offer and there is something for every outdoor enthusiast to enjoy. From camping, hiking, overlanding and exploring, this trail must be on everyone’s to do list.

Little River Canyon
This is a personal project to test new gear that I shot at Little River Canyon which is located in northeast Alabama just east of Fort Payne. This river is one of the nation's longest rivers that flows across a mountain top. It changes elevation from 1900 feet above sea level to 650, creating a spectacular gorge system.
I hiked the Little River National Preserve for two days after a heavy spring rain which put river flow at a nice level. The canyon walls are nearly vertical making travel to the gorge floor difficult except for a few locations. This is one of the best outings I have had in a while as I was awed by the primeval feeling I experienced while exploring the gorge.

Listening is a more natural way of learning, when compared to reading. Written language only began at around 3200 BC, but spoken language has existed long ago.
Learning by listening is a great way to:
- increases imagination and understanding
- improves your listening skills
- improves your own spoken accent
- learn while on the move
- reduce eye strain
Now learn the vast amount of general knowledge available on Wikipedia through audio (audio article). You could even learn subconsciously by playing the audio while you are sleeping! If you are planning to listen a lot, you could try using a bone conduction headphone, or a standard speaker instead of an earphone.

SUMMARY
=======
U.S. Route 11 (US 11) is a signed north–south (while physically generally northeast-southwest) highway United States highway extending 1,645 miles (2,647 km) across the eastern United States. The southern terminus of the route is at U.S. Route 90 in the Bayou Sauvage National Wildlife Refuge in eastern New Orleans, Louisiana. The northern terminus is at the Rouses Point - Lacolle 223 Border Crossing in Rouses Point, New York. The route continues across the border into Canada as Quebec Route 223. US 11, created in 1926, largely follows the route of the original plan.
Until 1929, US 11 ended just south of Picayune, Mississippi at the Pearl River border with Louisiana. It was extended through Louisiana after that.
The Maestri Bridge, which carries US 11 across Lake Ponchartrain, served as the only route to New Orleans from the east for six weeks after Hurricane Katrina due to its sturdy construction. The storm virtually destroyed the Twin Span Bridge on I-10 and damaged the Fort Pike Bridge on US 90.
Interstate 81, constructed in the 1960s, parallels the route of US 11 in many areas. Beyond I-81's southern terminus, other interstates run along corridors paralleling US 11, specifically I-59, which is joined to I-81 by I-40, I-75, and I-24.
Little River Canyon Fall Foliage, King of Glory
The King of Glory created all that we see before us. I can only imagine what lies ahead in Heaven. Fall in northeast Alabama is a beautiful time of year and Little River Canyon reflects His creative genius. The Fall of the year is a beautiful time. The fall of man was not, but there is Hope in Jesus, our King of Glory! :)
