LMS York Pilgrimage, 2014
On 29th March 2014, the Latin Mass Society held their annual pilgrimage to the city of York, where around 50 men and women gave their lives for the Catholic Faith, and in whose honour the event is held each year. Best known of these is St Margaret Clitherow, one of the Forty Martyrs of England and Wales (canonised in 1970) and co-patroness of the Latin Mass Society.
High Mass in the Extraordinary Form in St Wilfrid's Catholic Church in the centre of York, was followed by a procession through the busy streets of the city, passing the Shrine of St Margaret in the narrow medieval street called the Shambles and over Ouse Bridge where the saint was martyred.
Our thanks to Frs Michael Brown, John Cahill and Stephen Brown as sacred ministers and to the Oratorian Fathers at St Wilfrid's for hosting the Mass in their parish. Thanks also to the Rudgate Singers for providing the music, including Mozart's Missa Brevis in D Minor (KV65).

The Pearl of York
The story of St. Margaret Clitherow, English Catholic wife, mother and martyr.
Saint Margaret Clitherow, March 26th
On a Good Friday, they made a lady lie on the bare floor, and door was placed on her back. They are going to press her to death. Since official executioner was not available they employed beggars from the streets. Heavy stones were placed one after another on the door. In 15 minutes her life came to an end. Her last words were “Jesus! Jesus! Jesus! have mercy on me!”Her crime was she practiced Catholicism and harbored Catholic priests who worked secretly. This was in the days of Queen Elizabeth 1 who had banned Catholic priests from England.
That lady is Saint Margaret Clitherow, affectionately called the “Pearl of York.”

Pearl of York
New Trailer for the Pearl of York!
Margaret Clitheroe
Margaret Clitheroe died in the most gruesome way imaginable, as a martyr for her faith and in a heroic attempt to preserve her children's future. As I tell her story, however, I discover links to Guy Fawkes of the Gunpowder Plot and to a man trapped into marriage by a very determined Arab girl.
St Margaret's hand is preserved in the Bar Convent. I asked permission to film it but when the sister in charge heard that I wanted to show it on the internet she nearly had a fit. Whether she has caught up with the modern world yet I don't know, but I often encountered this in the early days of NWTV - the internet was a dark art closely linked with evil, if not satanic, forces. People were willing to be filmed right up until they heard that the film was for the internet and then they couldn't get away fast enough!
Strange.
A Journey to England's Nazareth - The LMS Walking Pilgrimage from Ely to Walsingham 2013
The fourth annual pilgrimage by the Latin Mass Society to the ancient English shrine of Walsingham took place over three days in August 2013. Around ninety people took part in the 55-mile walk, with Solemn High Mass in the Extraordinary Form each day, and traditional Catholic devotions along the way. There was also plenty of time to strike up new friendships and acquaintances.

The Shambles
When I was staying with my friend Irene in Cheshire this summer, she took me to York and we walked down its most famous street, The Shambles, where we had lunch at The Earl Grey Tea Rooms. Shambles is York's oldest street and Europe's best preserved Medieval street. The Shambles was historically a street of butchers shops and houses. Half way along The Shambles is the Shrine to Margaret Clitherow, a butcher's wife from the Street who was punished for allowing her house to be used for the shelter of priests and as lodging for a Catholic schoolteacher for her own children and those of neighbours. I recorded this with my Canon camera and added music (Pot Of Gold) to it from Aspadistra another YouTube user (see: Aspadistra)
