MEA SHEARIM the ultra-orthodox JEWISH neighborhood in JERUSALEM
Mea Shearim is an experience not to be missed in Jerusalem. This Jewish neighborhood is mainly inhabitted by Haredis jews, an ultra-orthodox group which keep themselves away from the modernity and follow strick adherence to Jewish law.
Residents avoid the use of Internet, smartphones and even watching television. Men dress in traditional black frock coats and women wear thick black stocking and long-sleeved modest clothing. Visitors are expected also to dress modesty. Posters in Hebrew and English are hung at every entrance to remind this.
In this video we walk along the Mea Shearim's main street and we enter in a few traditional shops. We talk to a few locals who are friendly to us.

Young Women Attacked by Ultra Orthodox Man in Mea She'arim | עשרות קיצונים מול נערות דתיות
Footage taken Tuesday evening showed dozens of Haredi youths in Jerusalem chasing after two religious girls, residents of the Musrara neighborhood, pelting them with cardboard boxes, stones and firecrackers and swearing at them profusely.
The video was taken at the capital's ultra-Orthodox Mea She'arim neighborhood.
The two young women happened to stumble into the middle of a protest arranged by hard-line Haredim of the Jerusalem Faction against the alleged IDF conscription of a baalat teshuva (newly religious) girl, according to eyewitnesses present on the scene.
The young Haredim demonstrating at the site began catcalling and booing the two young women, exclaiming at them, Shiksa, Filth and Leave our region, sullied ones—demanding they leave their neighborhood.
The girls, for their part, snapped back at the protesters and a verbal back-and-forth broke out. The verbal spat, however, quickly became physical when dozens of Haredi youths began chasing the girls.
David Perlmutter, present at the scene, said the girls escaped towards the Shabbat Square, where a police force was stationed. They were chased by dozens of youths, who intermittently encircled them and threw rocks and firecrackers at them, he said.
They were accosted, he further explained, due to their indecent attire—relative to the area's norms—as well as due to the fact they happened to enter the vicinity of the protest.
A short time later, other eyewitnesses added, the girls returned to the site flanked by two more girls and a bike-riding boy, and tensions erupted anew.
As the videos taken by Perlmutter and another man attest, bystanders attempted to physically hold off the attackers.

בשלב כלשהו החלו נערים מבין המפגינים בקריאות 'שיקסע' ו'צא טמא' כלפי הנערות, וכשאחת מהן דחפה מפגין הולהטה האווירה והחל המרדף אחריהן.
אחד מעדי הראייה מתאר לכיכר השבת כי זה היה נראה שהן מחפשות אקשן: בתחילה, כשלא התייחסו אליהן, הן חזרו לאזור כיכר השבת, התקשרו לנער נוסף וכשהוא הגיע התחיל הבלגן האמיתי.
עשרות צעירים דלקו אחריהן, הקיפו אותן ויידו עליהן אבנים ועוד חפצים מכל הבא ליד, בעיקר בשל טענתם כי הן עברו בין המפגינים כשהן לבושות באופן שאינו הולם את השכונה.

Mea Shearim is an insulated neighborhood in the heart of Jerusalem. With its overwhelmingly Haredi population, the streets retain the flavor of an East European shtetl Life which revolves around strict adherence to Jewish law, prayer, and the study of Jewish texts. This is a collection of images i took whilst visiting this neighborhood of Purim during my journey through Israel and Palestine. I was in Jerusalem during the holly festival of Purim and i was told that Mea Shearim was the place to go. It was definitely different and one of the most exciting travel experiences ever. Some people in Mea Shearim were concerned that i was just taking the images in order to criticize or make fun of them. Beit Shearim is an ancient Jewish necropolis where Yehuda Ha Nasi, the head of the Sanhedrin, was buried. This catacomb cave dates back to the second century AD and is one of the greatest archeological sites in Israel.
