Valle de Guadalupe Mexico Wine Country
Welcome to Valle de Guadalupe!
Mexico’s Wine Country!
We took a weekend trip down to Ensenada and Valle de Guadalupe with our travel friend, Reis Armstrong, for his birthday. This was his first time in Mexico and we decided to show him our home away from home! We stopped at 3 wineries, the oldest wineries in Mexico which is Santo Tomas, then Vena Cava (the upside down boat) and then Encuentro Guadalupe, which has won Architecture Awards.

Mexico's blossoming wine region: Valle de Guadalupe
10News Anchor Kimberly Hunt paid a visit to the stunning Valle de Guadalupe to learn about the blossoming wine industry. It's the beautiful wine region less than two hours south of the U.S/Mexico border in San Diego. More details:
VALLE DE GUADALUPE | Wine Tasting in Mexico's Wine Country!
La Ruta del Vino is exactly what it sounds like, a stretch of highway in Baja California that is home to vineyards producing nearly 70% of all wine in Mexico. We had heard wonderful stories of this part of Mexico, and ultimately decided to pay it a visit ourselves. The drive down through the rocky terrain and into wine country was absolutely gorgeous.
The vineyards themselves were fantastic as well. We visited four different wineries, each offering their own unique blends, foods, and atmospheres. It was easy to see why Valle de Guadalupe has been getting more and more coverage as the years go by. The beauty of the region (and the delicious wine) left us wanting to spend more time in the area.
During our Valle de Guadalupe Vineyard Tour, we stopped in at the following:
- Hacienda Guadalupe
- Lechuza Vineyard
- Cieli Winery
- Vinas de Garza

THE NAPA VALLEY OF MEXICO?? | Wine Tasting in the Valle de Guadalupe | Part 1 of 2
Valle de Guadalupe has been referred to as The Napa Valley of Mexico but it honestly should be in a category of its own. The impressive line up of wineries, beautiful vineyards, incredible service and tasting experiences mixed in with award-winning wines deserves all the recognition and praise of its own.
We took a two-day trip through the Ruta del Vinos and loved every second of it. Check out day one as we visit 3 different wineries, a food truck and then end the night with some steak! You can get an idea of what to expect at these locations and we include the prices we paid as well. Feel free to use this as a guide to planning your trip to the Valle de Guadalupe!
If you'd like to check out the wineries for yourself, you can take a peek at their websites to plan your visit.
First stop, Vinos Pijoan.
Second tasting, Vena Cava.

Valle de Guadalupe: Mexico's Wine Capital in the Heart of Baja California
One hour south of Tijuana, you will find famous Valle de Guadalupe Mexico's Wine Capital.
Vines were first planted by monks here in 1579 but by 1699, the king of Spain prohibited making wine except for the church.
320 years later there are an estimated 120 wineries in Baja California, and you should visit most of them.
Monte Xanic is a pioneer in the Mexican wine revolution and Baja California’s most award-winning winery. This is one of the top Baja California wineries to visit.
Santo Tomas ... tour the first winery where wine was produced, located in the legendary Santo Tomas Valley. Enjoy an extraordinary ride on a cart pulled by a tractor in the grape fields.
The Chateau Camou winery is settled upon a small canyon and most of its red and white wines are Bordeaux-style varieties that grow well in this region.
With an unsurpassed landscape, surrounded by vineyards and mountains, El Cielo Resort offers guests the opportunity to take their senses to the limit, always in the company of the best Mexican wines and an innovative gastronomic proposal.
A gravity-fed winery, Decantos is a magnificent modern structure that sits on a hill and with floor to ceiling glass windows around the circular building therefore, the views are amazing.
Viña de Frannes, started in 2015, is a modern winery with traditional touches, so sit outside looking at the views of the vineyards while peacefully sipping the wines.
Where to stay while visiting Valle de Guadalupe Mexico's Wine Capital…
Driving down the road, you cannot miss Encuentro Guadalupe. The 22 minimalistic loft rooms sit on stilts spaced along the hill providing guests with an unforgettable experience.
Cuatro Cuatros is a development two kilometers from Ensenada, designed for all those who want to enjoy the best views and scenarios of nature in the most literal style of glamping.
Bruma is a tranquil boutique hotel designed by eight childhood friends located at the northern end of the Valley. A delicious home-cooked meal is provided each morning. Hop on one of the free bicycles and ride through the vineyards.
... and if eating well is your thing, Valle de Guadalupe Mexico's Wine Capital also has incredible places for you to feast at ...
Finca Altozano is set in a natural environment, so using only products and ingredients from the region, Chef Javier Plascencia roasts, smokers and grills in the open kitchen to produce incredible flavors.
Traslomita presents a delicate and fresh proposal of flavors, blends, textures, colors, and above all creativity and good taste.
Located on the Mogor Ranch, all of the wine, vegetables, herbs, lamb, olive oil and eggs used at the Deckman’s en el Mogor restaurant are estate grown or produced.
... don’t miss this amazing Wine Country in the heart of Baja California, Mexico.

Mexico's Wine Country
The Guadalupe Valley is responsible for 80% of Mexico's wine production. The area is rich with history and foreign influence, as evidenced by the presence of Indigenous, Spanish, Italian, Russian, and American influences. We have been down there over a dozen times and find that every time we go, we immediately begin plotting our next adventure to the Valle. The food, scenery, festivals, ambiance, and of course the wine demand immediate attention -- This is definitely one of the greatest places on the planet.

Valle de Guadalupe, Wine country, Ensenada, Mexico
Here is a short clip of our visit to the 'Valle de Guadalupe', Mexico's wine country this year. We toured thru La Ruta del Vino, about 40 minutes away from downtown Ensenada and 70 miles from the San Diego border.
There are over 100 wineries in Valle de Guadalupe. Our favorite wineries were Las Nubes and El Corcho Rosa/Valley Girl wines', their wines were superb! A must visit when in Baja California. If you want to learn more about Ensenada, check out the entire video Seeking Paradise in Ensenada on

Valle de Guadalupe: My Visit to Mexico's Wine Country and Bruma Casa Ocho Hotel Tour
Guadalupe Valley in Baja California is seriously the best kept secret for wine lovers in North America! Located just 2 hours south of the US border, Valle de Guadalupe is home to some incredible wine and amazing restaurants. I was so excited to check the Ruta del Vino off my bucket list!
Without a doubt Bruma is the place to stay! I am absolutely mesmerized by this incredible property and everything the owners have in store for the future. Everywhere you go Bruma Valle de Guadalupe is so picturesque.
Can we talk about that infinity pool overlooking the wine fields!! You must use one of Bruma's bicycles for the afternoon and enjoy yourself. They are currently building villas that will be open soon. And hands down I had one of the best breakfast experiences ever here. Book your room at Bruma Casa Ocho here:
Bruma is opening their own winery and restaurant very soon. As you can seen from the video Bruma's winery is so incredibly unique and gorgeous.
Other wineries I visited in Valle de Guadalupe:
Adobe Guadalupe Vineyards and Inn (they have an impressive selection of reds and be sure to try the mezcal at the gift shop on the way out):
Paralelo Vinicola is an incredibly unique winery that integrates beautiful cultural history with its winemaking process. Be sure to ask for a full tour and enjoy a tasting on the glorious patio:
Restaurants I ate at:
Finca Altozano is a fabulous restaurant and wonderful setting to take in the sunset. They have a great array of options on their menu and super friendly staff:
You must pay a visit to Chef Drew Deckman at his new home in Guadalupe Valley called fittingly Deckman's. After growing up in Peachtree City, GA and completing a degree in Philosophy from Rhodes College, he embarked on a culinary journey that has brought him to Guadalupe Valley in what is now DECKMAN'S en el Mogor. Do yourself a favor and get the oysters!:
I hope you enjoyed this video! I cannot recommend Valle de Guadalupe and Bruma enough. Book a trip before everyone else catches on!

From San Diego to Baja Mexico - Wine Country Tour in Mexico
We took a group trip down to Baja Mexico to explore wine country in Valle de Guadalupe. This was such an amazing trip I'm so excited to make it back again!
We did, however, make a quick stop in San Diego on our way from Scottsdale, Arizona and spent a couple nights in the Balboa Park area. Our Airbnb was amazing (shoutout to Curiel Collection for hosting us!). We didn't hesitate to take in some nature with the seals and then Pure Project and Ballast Point for brews and food.
Road to Mexico was pretty easy even in my truck with only a brief search. I know everyone had a good sleep on the ride! The wineries are just absolutely impressive in Baja and I'll list them below.
