Mission San Luis Obispo de Tolosa
Mission San Luis Obispo de Tolosa is the fifth of the California mission's founded by Father Junipero Serra, September 1, 1772. The Mission is Located in downtown San Luis Obispo, California. Named after Saint Louis, Bishop of Toulouse, France.
Starting in 1769, Spain built a chain of 21 missions across the length of Alta California from San Diego to Sonoma as a way of gaining a foothold in the new frontier. California’s mission era ended in 1834, but you can still see the architectural legacy that endures in the state’s red tile roofs, whitewashed walls, arched colonnades, and bell towers.
The missions were built approximately 30 miles apart—about a day’s journey by horseback covering 650 miles total. All 21 of them are open to visitors and feature a gift shop and museum, and most of them hold mass on Sundays..

My First Project
First Motel in the world, San Luis Obispo (VLOG#136)
The emergence and popularization of the automobile in the United States of the early 20th century inspired many car owners beyond commuting into town. The poor roads of the era combined with the vehicle speeds and reliability required two or more days of nearly all day driving for 400-mile trips such as Los Angeles to San Francisco.
Longer trips requiring an overnight stay often left travelers looking for places to pitch tent or to sleep in their automobile if arrangements hadn't been made ahead to destinations and stopovers that also happen to have hotels or inns.
The lack of niche accommodations to fill the need for automobile travelers who only needed an overnight stay to continue their trip inspired many entrepreneurs. The combination of the convenience of a campground with the comforts and respectability of a hotel or inn spurred the creation of the motel. The hotel's architect, Arthur S. Heineman (1878–1974), picked San Luis Obispo as a midpoint location between Los Angeles and San Francisco, which took two days of driving on the roads at the time.

Walking Tour in Downtown San Luis Obispo/Central California
Hi Marmalade Fam!
First and foremost, thank You to my new and old subscribers, I'm so grateful for all of you!
In this video, we are walking all around downtown San Luis Obispo, in lovely central California. This video might be interesting for people who don't live in California or the USA and want to get a tiny idea of everyday life on the streets in San Luis Obispo.
Also, since now we're one big fam, you can follow me on Instagram. If you'd like me to follow you back, please make sure to DM me. I don't like following too many people, that just want subs and no interaction.
One last thing. I support myself through self employment. I have a Mercari closet, sell my children's book (Saying Goodbye to Stein) on Amazon and now I have a Zazzle store called Magnetz & More, where you guessed it, I sell souvenir fridge magnets and more. Your support means so much to me, thank you in advance.

The Story of Mission San Luis
Orientation video to Mission San Luis: Florida’s Apalachee-Spanish Living History Museum and archaeological site in Tallahassee, FL, USA.
From 1656 to 1704, San Luis served as the principal village of the Apalachees and was the Spaniards' westernmost military, religious, and administrative capital in La Florida. Mission San Luis was one of over 100 mission settlements established in Spanish Florida between the 1560s and 1690s. It was home to more than 1,400 residents, including a powerful Apalachee chief and the Spanish deputy governor.
Today Mission San Luis is the only reconstructed Spanish mission in Florida. As a living history museum it is devoted to sharing the stories of its former Apalachee and Spanish residents. Knowledge of life at San Luis over three centuries ago comes from intensive archaeological and historical research—the site is the most thoroughly investigated mission in the southeastern United States.
Join us in exploring native culture and Spanish colonization in a meticulously recreated landscape!
