The Mondulkiri Project in Cambodia
The Mondulkiri Project is an award winning elephant sanctuary in Cambodia. They have signed an agreement with Bunong indigenous elders to rent a large area of forest close to Sen Monorom to protect it from logging. They also plan to start an elephant breeding program there soon. The Mondulkiri Project is a community project, with monies raised being used to protect the forests for their elephant sanctuary and to support the local Bunong hill tribes with employment, medicine and food donations.

The elephant sanctuary in Mondulkiri has definitely been my favourite place in Cambodia, we got to spend the whole day with rescued elephants. The charity are friendly people and they rely on tourism to keep their non profit organisation going. If you are ever in Cambodia I suggest this place should be first on your list, I’ve linked their website below so you can see more information about them.

Impressions from my 2 Day Elephant & Jungle Trek Tour at Mondulkiri Project/Elephant Sanctuary in Sen Monorom, Cambodia.
This is how you are supposed to experience elephants in Southeast Asia! No chains, no hooks and no fences. Just watching, feeding and washing them :) The Mondulkiri Project doesn't offer or allow elephant rides and lets them walk freely around the protected forest.

Elephants in Cambodia! I LOVED Mondulkiri
After Kratie, we drove to Sen Monorom in Mondulkiri, Cambodia, which is maybe the most well-known area in eastern Cambodia, famous for elephants and trekking, although very small. We stayed in the cutest hotel in Sen Monorum called the Indigenous People Lodge, owned by a Bunong woman, and also went to an elephant sanctuary called The Elephant Valley Project. This was my favorite stop on our trip!

Visit Indigenous Peoples Market in Sen Monorom Town
This video started with a drone shot of Boo Sra Waterfall, followed by drone video of Sen Monorom town and Ko Prei circle, the landmark of Mondulkiri Province. We visited the Indigenous Peoples Market Place at Krong Sen Monorom to get some snacks, some fresh corns, fresh sweet potatoes for grilling at night. There's nothing much selling at this market as it's a local product from local indigenous peoples. They have fresh vegetables, bamboo shoots, avocados, passion fruits, pineapples, raw meats, steamed sweet potatoes and sugarcane juice. My wife's holding a giant bamboo shoot. It's so big. There're more selling that I don't know the names. It was raining, everything and everywhere is wet. We rushed to get back on bus and bought some more chickens to cheer with some beers at night as well. We then headed to our motel and prepared for dinner.
In this video, i used GoPro Hero 5 Black, iPhone 6s & 7s, DJI Phantom 3 Standard.

A small town in Cambodia: Sem Monorom, Mondulkiri Province
Some everyday scenes from the main street of the small Cambodian town of Sem Monorom, capital of the sparsely populated eastern province of Mondulkiri. Filmed in June 2013.
The Mondulkiri Project 2017 | Cambodia
The Mondulkiri Project was founded in October 2013 and is an award winning Elephant Sanctuary in Cambodia. Mr Tree (the founder) has signed an agreement with Indigenous Elders to rent a large area of the forest to preserve it from logging and for a safe place for the Elephants. The Elephants you see here have been rescued from hard labour and tourist rides. Now they live naturally in the forest and only come to humans of their free will. All money raised by the project goes to the local community and to protect the Elephants.
