Jerusalem and Islam
Jerusalem is a holy city for Islam. it is regarded as the third most holy city, for Muslim believers, after Mecca and Medina.
In 638 CE, Caliph Omar and his army had captured Jerusalem from the Byzantine Empire. In order to base their power, they decided to establish a holy structure in Jerusalem, so as to prove supremacy over Christianity (which had already built its most important shrine, the Church of the Holy Sepulcher). As of that time period, the city had evolved as a Muslim holy-site.

STORYLINE
Hundreds of Palestinians marched through the streets of Jerusalem on Thursday to protest against plans to build a museum atop part of a centuries-old Muslim cemetery.
The Museum of Tolerance is intended to promote understanding in a city divided by ethnic and religious rivalries, but protesters say building it over gravesites does anything but.
Several Muslim groups opposed the project but the Israeli Supreme Court overturned their court appeal last week, saying there had been a busy parking lot on the site since 1960, with no objections filed.
The protesters, many wearing traditional black and white checkered keffiyeh headdresses, marched peacefully from east Jerusalem to the proposed site, just west of the walled Old City, but voiced heated sentiments.
The court did seek to address the demands of Muslims by giving contractors 60 days to agree with the Israel Antiquities Authority on a way to either remove the deceased for reburial or install a barrier between the graves and a future building foundation to avoid disturbing the remains.
The cemetery is 300 to 400 years old, according to the court, but fell out of use after the founding of the state of Israel in 1948. Crumbling gravestones are still visible across the street from the construction site.
One of them was daubed with graffiti reading death to Arabs.
Muslim protesters found an unlikely ally in their fight against the court; Ultra-orthodox Jews, who don't usually side with Arabs, are active in preserving graves, often interfering with construction projects.
The museum is being built by the Simon Wiesenthal Center, a Los Angeles-based Jewish organisation.
The Weisenthal Center says the purpose of the museum is to promote understanding in a city holy to Jews, Christians and Muslims alike. It is scheduled to have a conference centre, theatre and museums for both adults and children.

JERUSALEM: HOLOCAUST MUSEUM & The HALL OF NAMES (YAD VASHEM) ✡️
SUBSCRIBE: - Let's go to the city of Jerusalem and let's visit The Hall of Names at Yad Vashem (the Holocaust Museum) which is the Jewish People’s memorial to each and every Jew who perished in the Holocaust – a place where they may be commemorated for generations to come.
The main circular hall houses the extensive collection of “Pages of Testimony” – short biographies of each Holocaust victim. Over two million Pages are stored in the circular repository around the outer edge of the Hall, with room for six million in all.
The ceiling of the Hall is composed of a ten-meter high cone reaching skywards, displaying 600 photographs and fragments of Pages of Testimony. This exhibit represents a fraction of the murdered six million men, women and children from the diverse Jewish world destroyed by the Nazis and their accomplices.

Western Wall || Filipino Caregiver || Jerusalem Israel
The Western Wall, Wailing Wall, or Kotel known in Islam as the Buraq Wall is an ancient limestone wall in the Old City of Jerusalem. It is a relatively small segment of a far longer ancient retaining wall, known also in its entirety as the Western Wall. The wall was originally erected as part of the expansion of the Second Jewish Temple begun by Herod the Great, which resulted in the encasement of the natural, steep hill known to Jews and Christians as the Temple Mount, in a large rectangular structure topped by a huge flat platform, thus creating more space for the Temple itself and its auxiliary buildings. For Muslims, it is traditionally the site where the Islamic Prophet Muhammad tied his winged steed, al-Buraq, on his Isra and Mi'raj to Jerusalem before ascending to paradise, and constitutes the Western border of al-Haram al-Sharif.
AL AQSA MOSQUE - THE THIRD HOLY MOSQUE IN ISLAM - JERUSALEM
Masjid Al Aqsa is the name of the whole area enclosed by the 4 walls surrounding the two Masajid of Masjid-e-Qibly and Qubbat-As-Sakhrah (Dome of the Rock).
Both Masajid are in the compound of Masjid Al Aqsa which is the size of 13 football pitches (35 acres). Masjid-e-Qibly is the Masjid where the 5 daily Salaah is led.
In the compound there are 200 #monuments including Masjid-e-Qibly and #Qubbat-As-Sakhrah (#Dome of the #Rock), other prayer halls, schools, fountains and libraries.
The reward of praying anywhere in the compound of Masjid Al Aqsa is increased 500 times more than any (Masjid) elsewhere.
Abu Darda (ra) relates that the Prophet (Peace be upon him) said, A prayer in Makkah (Ka'bah) is worth 100,000 times (reward), a prayer in my Masjid (Madinah) is worth 1,000 times and a prayer in Al-Aqsa Sanctuary is worth 500 times more reward than anywhere else.
For Muslims, it holds a very important place in our heart. It is the 3rd most holy site in Islam. It is the location that the Prophetṣallallāhu 'alayhi wa sallam (peace and blessings of Allāh be upon him) was transported to during the journey of Israa and Miraaj. It was the scene for the most extraordinary gathering in the history of mankind – when every Prophet that ever lived were gathered together for a congregational prayer behind Prophet Muhammadṣallallāhu 'alayhi wa sallam (peace and blessings of Allāh be upon him).
There are multiple mosques on the site that we know as masjid Al Aqsa. We think of masjid Al-Aqsa as the building at the southernmost corner of the Mosque. In actual fact, that is the Qibly mosque – so called because it is the closest to the Qibla. The whole mount is masjid Al Aqsa and is sometimes referred to the Haram Al-Sharif to prevent confusion. But there are other mosques present on the site which are usually connected to historical incidents e.g. the Buraq masjid, the Marwani masjid and more.
In 1967, Jerusalem left Muslim hands for the 3rd time and came under the control of Israel. The conquering Israeli soldiers flew their flag from the dome. The Israeli leadership realised that overt control of masjid Al-Aqsa would serve as a constant provocation to the Muslim world. They used the fig leaf of a Waqf in order to placate the Muslims into complacency.
In 1969, an Australian Zionist set fire to the mimbar of Nuruddin and the Qibly mosque itself. The resulting inferno enveloped the entire Qibly mosque. The Muslim world awoke to scenes from the worst of nightmares. Desperate palestinians tried to put out the flames in anyway they could. An entire Ummah hung their head in shame.
Since then, the mosque has been rebuilt and refurbished, but the assaults against the 3rd holiest site in Islam continue to this day. Excavations undermining the foundations of the entire Mosque, unauthorised visits, and daily threats to rebuild the old temple are all currently under way. Masjid Al-Aqsa still waits.
