A Walk Through The National Railway Museum, York, England
The National Railway Museum is a museum in York forming part of the British Science Museum Group of National Museums and telling the story of rail transport in Britain and its impact on society. It has won many awards, including the European Museum of the Year Award in 2001. It is the home of the national collection of historically significant railway vehicles, as well as a collection of other artefacts and both written and pictorial records.
The National Railway Museum in York displays a collection of over 100 locomotives and nearly 300 other items of rolling stock, virtually all of which either ran on the railways of Great Britain or were built there. Also on the 20 acres site are many hundreds of thousands of other items and records of social, technical, artistic and historical interest, exhibited mostly in three large halls of a former motive power depot next to the East Coast Main Line, near York railway station. It is the largest museum of its type in Britain, attracting 727,000 visitors during the 2014/15 financial year (the largest in the world in terms of floor area of exhibition buildings is La Cité du Train in the French town of Mulhouse, although this attracts far fewer visitors than the National Railway Museum).
The National Railway Museum was established on its present site, the former York North locomotive depot, in 1975, when it took over the former British Railways collection located in Clapham and the York Railway Museum located off Queen Street, immediately to the south east of the railway station; since then, the collection has continued to grow.
There are approximately 280 rail vehicles in the National Collection, with around 100 being at York at any one time and the remainder divided between Locomotion at Shildon and other museums and heritage railways. The earliest are wagonway vehicles of about 1815. The permanent display includes Palaces on Wheels, a collection of Royal Train saloons from Queen Victoria's early trains through to those used by Queen Elizabeth II up to the 1970s, among them some of the first rail vehicles to be set aside for preservation. Other key exhibits normally to be seen at York include the 1846 Furness Railway No. 3 Coppernob locomotive, and the more modern express passenger steam locomotives London and North Eastern Railway Class A3 No. 4472 Flying Scotsman (added to the collection in 2004), its streamlined sister Class A4 No. 4468 Mallard and London, Midland and Scottish Railway Princess Coronation Class No. 6229 Duchess of Hamilton. Flying Scotsman is among the exhibits intended for operation on the National Rail network from time to time.
Visting The National Railway Museum In York
The National Railway Museum located in York opened its doors in 1975 and is home to a collection of over 100 locomotives and nearly 300 other items of rolling stock. The museum is free to enter however does accept donations at various points around the site.
In this video I explore The National Railway Museum and discover the many different rooms and locomotives on display. The National Railway Museum was established on its present site, the former York North locomotive depot, in 1975, when it took over the former British Railways collection located in Clapham. Since opening next to the current York Railway Station the collection has continued to grow with new exhibitions and locomotives coming to the site on a regular bases.

We had a day in York and decided to call at the National Railway Museum, saw lots of great trains, including the Steam train Harry Potter was on, also, saw the Mallard which holds the World speed record for a steam Locomotive, I would recommend this museum for a great day out whether your interested in Trains or not, (Plus its free entry)
The National Railway Museum York UK
The museum was opened by Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh in 1975. The opening coincided with the 150th anniversary celebrations of the opening of the Stockton & Darlington Railway.
I do not know much about locomotives but the museum is a very interesting place to visit and such a lot to see. I have only given a little information on some of the exhibits but if you are interested there is more on some trains below.

The Shinkansen- The Bullet Train
1960s Japan, the bullet train ran at speeds of up to 130 mph and took a little over three hours to travel the 320-mile line between Tokyo and Osaka. The service was efficient and reliable—on average, bullet trains arrive within 24 seconds of their scheduled time.
After it was withdrawn from service in 2000, the Shinkansen was generously donated to the National Collection by JR West. Before arriving in the UK, it was fully restored to its present condition by over one hundred JR West workers.
The Shinkansen in the National Collection is the only bullet train outside of Japan.
Eurostar
Eurostar Class 373 trains were designed to transport passengers from London to Paris and Brussels via the Channel Tunnel in just over two hours. The power car has an average operating speed of 186 mph (300 km/h) and is part of the same series as the train that holds the current UK rail speed record of over 208 mph (334.7 km/h).

LNER Class A4 4468 Mallard. London and North Eastern Railway locomotive numbered 4468.
Mallard is a Class A4 4-6-2 Pacific steam locomotive built at Doncaster Works, England in 1938.
It is the holder of the world speed record for steam locomotives at 126 mph and was achieved on 3 July 1938 when it broke the 1936 German (DRG Class 05) 002's record of 124.5 mph.
Chinese KF7
KF7 No 607 steam locomotive built by the Vulcan Foundry in Britain, exported to China and in 1979, KF no.7 was presented to the National Railway Museum by the Chinese government as a gift from the people of China to the people of Britain.
Although the KF no.7 runs on standard gauge track it is much higher and wider than standard British locomotives.

A Visit to the National Railway Museum - York, 27th August 2019
On Tuesday 27th August 2019, we made a visit to the famous National Railway Museum at York. We had a good look around all of the Static Exhibits and Displays in the Great Hall and Station Hall. We got to see a Turntable Demonstration inside the Station Hall. We had a look at the Railway Workshops, the Model Railway Layouts, and we got to take a quick trip on board a replica version of the Rocket Locomotive. We also took a quick ride on board the Miniature Railway as well.

We had a excellent day at the National Railway Museum at York and would highly recommend going, It's also free entry. Our day started at 4:30am we returned home about 7:30pm the same day. The only problem we had was most of the seats on the train from Kings Cross had been reserved, we had seats for about two hours but had to give up our seats throughout the journey. To be fair we had open tickets so we could travel when we wanted, next time for future long train journeys I might reserve seats but we'd have to travel on a certain train at a given time.

UK ROAD TRIP: Durham and York, England Travel Vlog | National Railway Museum & York Minster (Part 7)
We are back on the road and taking a 3 WEEK road trip through England, Scotland and Wales!
This will be a multi-part UK Road Trip series as we drive from London over to Wales, up to Scotland and back down again.
In Part 7, we leave Scotland and stop by Durham, England to enjoy a beautiful Evensong service at the cathedral before heading on to York, England. In York, we go full tourist mode and visit York Minster, explore the historic medieval market streets known as The Shambles, enjoy a proper High Tea at Betty’s Tea Room and check out York’s National Railway Museum.
In Part 6 we traveled to Glenfinnan, Scotland to see the real-life Hogwarts Express cross the Glenfinnan Viaduct! Then, we went on a Coo Safari in Scotland’s Highlands! After spotting a few furry Highland cows, we made our way to Edinburgh. There, we went on a Harry Potter walking tour where we visited many places that were instrumental in influencing J.K. Rowling and the Harry Potter books!
In Part 5, we made our way to Scotland for the first time, stopping in Glasgow and ending our video with a cheeky whisky tasting at the Oban Distillery in Oban, Scotland! We tasted and reviewed four Oban whiskeys, including the Oban Little Bay, Oban 14 Year Old, Oban Distiller’s Edition and the Oban Distillery Exclusive Bottling!
In Part 4, we explored Liverpool, the Lake District in England, including gorgeous Keswick, and magical standing stones as old as Stonehenge! We also ate some homemade gingerbread at the famous Sarah Nelson’s Grasmere Gingerbread shop, and hiked to the waterfall at Aira Force.
In Part 3, we explored the Birthplace of the Industrial Revolution, Ironbridge, England! Then, we spent a few days exploring Northern Wales, including Conwy, Anglesey, Snowdonia National Park and Newborough Beach!
In Part 2, we explored the charming villages of the Cotswolds in England, Cardiff, Wales, and Shakespeare’s hometown of Stratford-Upon-Avon, England!
In Part 1, we explored Bath, England and the mysterious, ancient site of Stonehenge. We also traveled to Glastonbury, England, which is known for its quirkiness and historic abbey ruins.

A great day out at this great collection of trains museum.
National Railway Museum, January 2019
No visit to York would be complete however without a visit to the National Railway Museum. A must do attraction whilst in the area for anyone with even the slightest interest in railways. Visiting on a Saturday however the museum was fairly busy, as as such I was unable to go into as much detail as normal, however there have been a couple of changes within the museum, and these have been captured well, including the addition of 60103 'Flying Scotsman'
