Monterey, California ~ Old Fisherman's Wharf
Recently Wifey & I were in Monterey, California and we decided to visit the Old Fisherman's Wharf for dinner. We made a reservation and ate at the Old Fisherman's Grotto Restaurant. I can highly recommend this restaurant. I gave it 5 stars on Google. The service was as good as we've ever had and the Halibut dinner we had was incredible.
While waiting for our reservation, I went on a walking tour of Fisherman's Wharf.
The Wharf is a very cool spot to hang out for sightseeing, people watching and there are some fantastic restaurants.

Old Fisherman's Wharf & Monterey Bay (Monterey, CA)
Here is a tour of the Old Fisherman's Wharf and a quick look of the Monterey Bay in Monterey, CA. There are a lot of gift shops, candy stores, and restaurants with tasty food, treats, and more. This is a pretty relaxing place right here at the Old Fisherman's Wharf.
Fisherman's Wharf was built by the Pacific Coast Steamship Company in 1870 for the loading and unloading of passengers and goods. The wharf was also used by other commercial operations, and the city of Monterey took ownership in 1913. The wharf was expanded through 1920.
In 1923, while an unusually large shipment of sardines was being loaded onto the S.S. San Antonio, bad weather caused the ship to lean on the wharf, and 132 feet of the wharf collapsed. When the wharf was reconstructed, it was extended by 750 feet.
Municipal Wharf II was constructed in 1926. After World War II, the sardine population in Monterey Bay collapsed. With the contraction of the fishing industry, Old Fisherman's Wharf reoriented its business focus toward tourism.

Old Customhouse Tour at the Old Fisherman's Wharf (Monterey, CA)
Here is a short tour of the Old Customhouse at the Old Fisherman's Wharf in Monterey, CA.
The Old Customhouse is a Spanish Colonial style adobe structure built around 1827 by the Mexican government in the Pueblo de Monterey, Alta California, in present-day Monterey County in the U.S. state of California. The Customhouse is the state's first designated California Historical Landmark, marking the site where U.S. Commodore John Drake Sloat raised the American flag and declared California part of the United States in 1846.
In 1821 New Spain—Mexico won independence from Spain, in the Mexican War of Independence, and for nearly 25 years Monterey was in the Mexican Territory of Alta California. Under Mexican rule the trade restrictions were lifted and coastal ports were opened to foreign trade. This drew in trade from British, American, and South American traders.
To collect customs duties (tax monies) at the Monterey Bay port, the Mexican government built the Customhouse, making it the oldest government building in present-day California. On July 7, 1846, during the Mexican-American war, Commodore John Drake Sloat raised the American Flag, declaring California part of the United States.
