Lanciano
This year I had this wonderful opportunity to spend my summer in Italy. My main workplace was in Lanciano, very small but beautiful town located near by the Adriatic sea. City is very old and will be great destination for everyone who appreciates nice architecture and romance of small town.

Places to see in ( Vasto - Italy )
Places to see in ( Vasto - Italy )
On Abruzzo's southern coast, the hilltop town of Vasto has an atmospheric medieval quarter and superb sea views. Much of the centro storico (historic centre) dates from the 15th century, a period in which the city was known as 'the Athens of the Abruzzi'; it's also distinguished as the birthplace of the poet Gabriele Rossetti. Two kilometres downhill is the blowzy resort of Vasto Marina, a strip of hotels, restaurants and campgrounds fronting a long sandy beach. About 5km north of town along the coast is the beautiful Spiaggia di Punta Penna and the Riserva Naturale di Punta Aderci.
In summer the action is on the beach at Vasto Marina. In the old town, interest revolves around the small historic centre, with its landmark Castello Caldoresco, located on Piazza Rossetti, and the low-key Romanesque Cattedrale di San Giuseppe. The Renaissance Palazzo d'Avalos hosts four museums, including the Museo Archeologico. The first thing you will appreciate on arriving in Vasto are the beautiful panoramic views over the Adriatic sea, over the lovely golden beaches and towards the Punta della Penne harbour and lighthouse.
Above the sea, on a hillside, Vasto has a charming medieval old centre whose centre is the marvellous Piazza Rossetti with the impressive Caldoresco Castle. The original parts of the castle date back to the 14th and 15th centuries. The Palazzo d'Avalos is another key sight. You can visit the palace as it is now home to the Museo Civico Archaeologica. Be sure to also visit its pretty Neapolitan-style garden. Not far away is the Cattedrale di San Giuseppe which has a simple Romanesque facade. The rest is newer as it was rebuilt following destruction during a Turkish raid in the 16th century.
Wandering through the narrow alleyways is a pleasure (and offers some relief from the hot sun) and reveals many churches and mansions and also various Roman excavations. After exploring the old centre head for the beach. It is about a 15 to 20 minutes walk downhill from the ancient centre of Vasto and is a welcome spot to cool off in the gorgeous turquoise waters of the Adriatic Sea.
On the coast the Vasto Marina is a popular holiday destination and has lots of hotels and camp sites along the edge of the beach. This is a nice spot to enjoy lunch or to have the almost obligatory afternoon ice-cream. Whilst thronging with people in July and August the marina and beaches are fairly deserted outside of the main season.
Further along the coast is the promontory of the 'Punta d'Erca also known as the Punta Aderci, a beautiful, unspoilt area of rocky coastline popular with divers. The area is a protected nature reserve. You can see the wonderful 'trabocchi' here. These are traditional fishing platforms used for fish and prawn fishing along the coast. Outside of the main season you can enjoy the coastline and trabocchi and barely see another person.
The old part of the town (centro storico) features a number of buildings and churches dating from the 12th-18th centuries, including:
Vasto Cathedral (Cattedrale di San Giuseppe)
Church of Santa Maria Maggiore (it), the largest and oldest (mentioned in a document as early as 1195) church in the town, with a quite tall bell tower. Damaged by the Turks in 1566, and by a fire in 1645, it received a thorough restructuring in 1735 in which it got the current shape. It hosts one of alleged Jesus' crown of thorns (Sacra Spina).
Castello Caldoresco
D'Avalos Palace (Palazzo D'Avalos) and the Musei Civici
Below the hill on which the town is located, the beach resort town of Marina di Vasto offers a large sandy beach and several hotels and other facilities.
( Vasto - Italy ) is well know as a tourist destination because of the variety of places you can enjoy while you are visiting Vasto . Through a series of videos we will try to show you recommended places to visit in Vasto - Italy

The blood miracle of St Januarius in Naples, Italy
The blood miracle of St. Januarius (San Gennaro) in Naples
Yearly on the first weekend of May and on the 19th September amazement spreads through Naples Cathedral. There one can marvel at how the blood of the beheaded San Gennaro liquifies in its ampoule.
The day of the blood miracle is an important feast for Naples and the people celebrate it accordingly. The Cathedral is surrounded by stalls selling sweets, cobs and all kinds of curiosities.
At the subsequent service a centuries-old ritual takes place: the Saint’s silver bust is positioned next to the altar and the ampoule with blood is shown to the faithful by the “abate del tesoro“ and then slowly turned. Shortly after this, traditional prayers of the “parenti di San Gennaro“ (relatives of San Gennaro, a group of faithful women, sitting in the front row) are said. These prayers heighten ecstatically until the blood liquifies. The wild rejoicing of the faithful is crowned by the sound of the cathedral’s bells ringing. The crowd starts pushing its way through to kiss the ampoule of blood. This overcrowded service is attended by spiritual authorities, political dignitaries and hundreds of anticipating believers.
For most of the natives of Naples the Blood Miracle has an oracle character
According to the people this blood miracle takes place, when no disaster is expected in the near future. The absence of the miracle augurs tragedy for Naples and its surroundings. For instance in 1980 before the harsh earthquake took its toll on 2000 lives, the blood didn’t liquify.
The people of Naples rather have a personal than religious relationship with San Gennaro. They present him their wishes with love and expect them to be fulfilled.
The story of the blood miracle
Saint Gennaro was the bishop of Benevento and was beheaded during the persecution of Christians by Diocletian in 305. According to the legend a woman collected and kept some of the martyr’s blood in an ampoule, after he died. In 313 the miracle occurred for the first time, after the Saint’s skeleton and the ampoule with blood were brought to Naples. The skeleton was placed to rest in the catacomb together with the ampoule. In the 9th century the remains and blood of S. Gennaro were in a small chapel, next to the church, where in the 14th century the cathedral was built.
There are numerous records on the liquefaction of the blood
dating from times before 1649 when they officially started recording this miracle. One of the descriptions of the procession dates from the year 1389. According to writings in 1528 the blood miracle didn’t take place. This was the year the pest broke out and Naples didn’t receive its raise from France. There are hundreds of records of the liquefaction dating from the 16th Century.

Lanciano was founded in 1180 B.C. by Solima with the name of Anxanon , became Anxanum with the conquest of the Romans in 435 B.C., Lanzano in the Middle Ages to become the current Lanciano . The city was ordered to the Roman Republic as a municipium . As evidence of this , there is a plaque kept in the Town Hall. At this time, the city experienced prosperity through trade, due to its strategic position: a few kilometers from the sea but it is a hill. In the Middle Ages suffered the escape of the Lombards, who razed it to the ground and built a castle on the hill Erminio , and from here we have Lanciano Vecchia, the oldest neighborhood . The city has undergone many changes but remaining faithful to the era reigned for territorial and economic benefits . In 1640, its worst moment , Lanciano lost its town privileges and state property was sold to the viceroy of Naples , Medina los Torres, and in 1646 was ceded to the D' Avalos, Marquis of Vasto . He regained freedom with the throne of the Bourbons of Naples . In the XIX century participated in the uprisings voting, too, for the accession of a united Italy . The Church of Santa Maria Maggiore, is one of the most important monuments of Abruzzo. Construction began in 1227 and ended in 1540. In 1968 it was restored in the original style . The Church of San Francesco, was built in 1258 and on the main altar you can see the relics of the Eucharistic Miracle . For the Catholic Church, this is considered the first miracle. The story goes that a monk, while celebrating Mass, he doubted the presence of Christ in the Eucharist . At that point, the host became flesh and the wine became blood, and the miracle took place in this church . Porta San Biagio, dates from the XI century and is the only one remaining of nine gates that were part of the boundary of the city. Bridge of Diocletian, was used as a walkway for carriages and animals and the underlying zone as a refuge for war, then as a fish market . Quakeproofing Old Buildings
Traditionally built houses in old Europe are vulnerable to earthquakes, which again was demonstrated last August when a 6.2 magnitude quake devastated an area in central Italy. Italian engineers are researching ways to minimize the damage. VOA’s George Putic reports.

Song Lyrics: The impossible was made
You've lost the connection
lethal thing as an inner blade
not even having a reaction
you missed the faith in this crusade
Wasn't it enough to kill him hard?
The demon of paranoia
Wasn't it enough to kill him hard?
'Cause your life is a chimera
Obsolete!
You didn't follow the instructions
Obsolete!
You can't avoid the collision
You're taking lightly the system
Thinking you can hide your duties
but the system is omniscient
It always finds the guilty
The old part has changed, dude
The impossible was made
to improve
Wasn't it enough to kill him hard?
The demon of paranoia
Obsolete!
You can't avoid the collision right now
You've lost the connection
lethal thing as an inner blade
and not even having a reaction
you missed the faith in this crusade
You're taking lightly the system
Thinking you can hide your duties
but the system is omniscient
It always finds the guilty
The old part has changed, dude
The impossible was made

Encounter with an Adorable Old Italian Man
We ran into this adorable old Italian man who, after telling us strangers his life story, asked my hand for a dance. The best part - after casually mentioning that my grandfather grew up in this town 70+ years ago, this man knew exactly who he was and said they were childhood friends! What a wonderfully small world we live in :)
