Humboldt Hill Homecoming - Aerial Views
10 years ago I moved from this ranch on top of Humboldt Hill. I lived there for 16 years, milking goats and making music with my band. It was nice to visit again and fly around the property and the surrounding cow fields. The Goats are mostly gone now but seeing
the place again brought me back to the great eeling I had when living up here.

Lost Hiker near Pacific Crest Trail
El Dorado County, Calif. – On June 26, 2016 at approximately 1:00 p.m., El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office (EDSO) contacted California Highway Patrol Helicopter 24 (H-24) for assistance in a search for a lost hiker. A lone female hiker that was attempting to hike the Pacific Crest Trail had become lost and called EDSO for help. She had become lost since yesterday and used a phone to call 9-1-1. It was determined that she was near Showers Lake. She had proper equipment, provisions, and a phone for use in emergencies. She reported that she had a signal mirror and a large reflective warming blanket that she laid out so it could be seen by the air.
H-24 responded from the Sacramento area and proceeded to the Showers Lake area and began a search. Within 10-15 minutes, the crew saw the reflective blanket on the snow and began orbiting the victim, Jessica Drizen. She appeared to be in good condition standing next to the blanket. H-24 advised the Command Post that they had located her and were looking for a suitable landing zone. They landed nearby and hiked over to Ms. Drizen. She was not injured and in good spirits. The crew helped her back to the helicopter and flew her to the command post at the South Lake Tahoe Airport where she was handed over to EDSO Search and Rescue personnel.
the TRUTH ABOUT OUR HOMETOWN - HANGTOWN CALIFORNIA
Placerville AKA HANGTOWN California. It's a cute little town that we call home. It sits in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountain range. It's just outside the exact spot gold was first discovered in California, and it's also the entire focus of today's video... almost the entire focus.

Highlights of this epic offroad / 4x4 overland rock crawling trail.
The Rubicon/McKinney Road in Northern California got its name because it crosses the Rubicon River at one point near Lake Tahoe. Originally established in the 1800's, the road was used as a stagecoach road between Georgetown and Lake Tahoe. After the hotels went out of business, the road began to deteriorate. Because of this, in 1952, several residents of Georgetown held a meeting to discuss the possibility of an organized Jeep tour from Georgetown to Lake Tahoe, via the Rubicon Trail. On August 29, 1953, 55 Jeeps with 155 enthusiastic participants left Georgetown on a two-day trip that is now known as Jeepers Jamboree 1. Since then, the Jeepers Jamboree organization has moved the event to the last weekend of July. Now it's a four-wheelers tradition of these pioneers.
Today, almost everyone has heard of The Rubicon Trail. Believed to be the Super Bowl of offroad trails, this extreme trail is a must-do destination for all offroaders, overlanders, and rock crawlers. Comprised of miles of nonstop 4-low rock crawling, this trail is going to test your driving skills and your vehicle. According to who you talk to, this trail is scary intense to a weekend camping trip. But don't be fooled, this trail should never be underestimated for one second.
This is an epic 4x4 off-road rock crawling trail that has all the fun of overland and technical obstacles. This offroad trail is made of legends and never disappoints. The trail has several different entry points, the popular one which is this video is over near Ice House at Loon Lake, the others are Georgetown on Wentworth springs, and we end up exiting the trail at Lake Tahoe. This is one of the epic dog friendly trails in the area so make sure you bring your best friend with you.
Make sure you watch the full video so you don't miss any of the action or the short glimpse at the ghost in Rubicon Springs that was recorded during the lightning storm.

Lake Tahoe Outdoor Recreation Insurance: Dangers of Rattlesnakes
While outdoor recreation has a strong presence throughout the year in California, summer time often brings adventurists out to enjoy and explore the great outdoors in countless diverse, fun and exciting ways. This is often one of the most lucrative times for the outdoor recreation industry; however it can also bring some of the greatest liability exposures. As the weather warms up and people venture outdoors, outdoor safety becomes a high priority. It is essential that Tahoe outdoor recreation services address the health and safety of clients, to best minimize the risk of outdoor accidents or misadventures.
Summertime not only brings heat and fire related hazards, it also marks one of the peak seasons for animal activity. Snakes and reptiles become especially common as they emerge to enjoy the sunshine. California is home to thirty-three native species of snakes. While many of the native species are nonthreatening, six species are in fact venomous members of the viper family. California’s rattlesnakes are arguably the most commonly observed species in many parts of the state, where they can be found on trails, roads and in yards throughout the state.
There are roughly 8,000 cases of envenomation each year in North America. The severity of a snake bite is highly reliant on the amount of venom injected and the amount of time it takes to receive treatment. Depending on the severity, a snake bite can result in everything from hospitalization to fatality. The California Poison Control Center notes that rattlesnakes deliver more than 800 bites each year. Bites most commonly occur between the months of April and October when the weather is warm.
While education about the dangers of California’s reptilian wildlife is prevalent, not all nature lovers are aware of these threats and how to properly avoid an encounter with a toxic snake. It is important that the Tahoe outdoor recreation industry works with state and local officials to help monitor trails and terrain, as well as help educate hikers, bikers and other outdoor activity seekers about the local natural hazards. Not only is doing so a public service, but cautioning guest and clients about potential natural hazards can also help decrease an operation’s liability exposure to claims of negligence or other professional misconduct. The California Department of Fish and Wildlife offers great resources to help raise awareness about rattlesnake safety, which can help keep your clients and staff members safe in the outdoors.
At Cal-Nevada Insurance Agency we understand that the Tahoe outdoor recreation industry faces many unique risk exposures due to the unpredictability of working with nature. Even when the best safety and precautionary measures are taken, accidents can still occur and things can go unexpectedly wrong. That’s why we specialize in providing complete Tahoe outdoor recreation insurance solutions for outdoor recreation industry members from ski resorts to nature guides. We can provide all the essential property and liability coverage measure to protect any recreational operation. Give us a call today at (866) 670-5948 for more information about how to start crafting the best policy for your operation.
