According to U.S. Census data released in 2018, the Seattle metropolitan area's population stands at 3.94 million, and ranks as the 15th largest in the United States. In July 2013, it was the fastest-growing major city in the United States and remained in the top 5 in May 2015 with an annual growth rate of 2.1%. The city is situated on an isthmus between Puget Sound (an inlet of the Pacific Ocean) and Lake Washington, about 100 miles (160 km) south of the Canada–United States border. A major gateway for trade with Asia, Seattle is the fourth-largest port in North America in terms of container handling as of 2015.The Seattle area was inhabited by Native Americans for at least 4,000 years before the first permanent European settlers. Arthur A. Denny and his group of travelers, subsequently known as the Denny Party, arrived from Illinois via Portland, Oregon, on the schooner Exact at Alki Point on November 13, 1851. The settlement was moved to the eastern shore of Elliott Bay and named Seattle in 1852, in honor of Chief Si'ahl of the local Duwamish and Suquamish tribes. Today, Seattle has high populations of Native, Scandinavian, African, and Asian Americans, as well as a thriving LGBT community that ranks 6th in the United States for population.Logging was Seattle's first major industry, but by the late 19th century, the city had become a commercial and shipbuilding center as a gateway to Alaska during the Klondike Gold Rush. Hilarious T-Rex Race Kicks off in Washington State
Is it a horse race? A camel race? It’s a T-Rex race!
Last week instead of a horse race the reputable racetrack, Emerald Downs, located in Auburn, in the Pacific Northwest state of Washington, announced a dinosaur race. A mass of people in oversized T-Rex costumes chaotically and hilariously broke out of a starting gate and onto the tracks. This is the third year in a row Emerald Downs hosted the race. [Wikipedia] PONCHO
The Patrons of Northwest Civic, Cultural and Charitable Organizations (PONCHO) is a non-profit corporation in Seattle, Washington, United States, whose annual fund-raising auction has long played a significant role in funding the arts in Seattle. However, over the years, the gala auction slowly ceased to be profitable and will not occur after 2008, being replaced by smaller art and wine auctions. Janet True, president of the PONCHO board, has indicated that the gala auction will probably be replaced by something parallel to New York City's Tony Awards.The group was founded in 1963 to hold an auction to retire the US$35,000 debt accumulated by the Seattle Symphony's critically successful performance of Verdi's Aida at the 1962 Seattle World's Fair, the Century 21 Exposition. They exceeded their goal, raising enough additional money to give $50,000 to the Symphony to help establish the Seattle Opera, as well as $15,000 to the Council on Aging and $1,000 to the Seattle Chorale. In the subsequent 45 years, PONCHO has raised over $33 million for more than 200 Seattle-area arts organizations. Significant beneficiaries other than the Symphony and Opera have included the Pacific Northwest Ballet, Seattle Art Museum, Seattle Repertory Theatre, and ACT.Brendan Kiley of Seattle alternative weekly The Stranger, writing on the occasion of PONCHO executive director Gordon Hamilton's forced departure in July 2008, sees PONCHO as gradually shifting from being a deep donor to large arts institutions into a broad donor whose beneficiaries have come to include smaller groups.

Post Traumatic Stress and the power of story | Tom Skerritt | TEDxRainier
In this heartfelt talk, Tom Skerritt invites us into the intimate and therapeutic powers of storytelling for vets with post traumatic stress
Emmy Award winning actor, writer, and director Tom Skerritt is a much loved resident of Washington State. He worked in his first TV show with director Robert Altman and was cast in the movie M*A*S*H. Other Classic films followed including Alien, A River Runs Through it, Steel Magnolias, Top Gun, and Contact. He continues his stage work on Broadway and appeared on television in “The Good Wife” and “Madam Secretary.” Tom continues to act and write, but his personal interests are now with his family and fostering the creative vibrancy of Seattle. He is one of the founders of The Film School in Seattle, a Mecca for engaging in the art of storytelling. Watching the success of storytelling at The Film School, Tom realized that a similar strategy might help returned veterans deal with PTSD. He founded the Red Badge Project in partnership with Joint Base Lewis McChord to help returning vets reconnect with themselves.

This video was captured on January 3rd 2016 at 5:34 PM on Interstate 90 in downtown Spokane. The crash began with one car crashing into the exit impact barrier at the Lincoln Street exit. The car behind it stopped in the lane ahead of the car I was following. The car I was following swerved barely missing the stopped car causing them to spin out of control. All of this happened leaving me with just enough time and room to move over and go around everyone. Behind me was a very large group of vehicles in all 3 lanes scrambling to void this crash and avoid hitting each other. My option to stop and help was not an option. Hitting the gas and getting the hell out of the way was my only option! The studded snow tires my truck is equipped with was the biggest reason I was able to avoid this collision and from getting hit from behind. These days studded tires are shunned by many, but here is an example of a situation where if it weren't for the right tires for the polished ICE conditions. I would be filing an insurance claim on a bran new 2016 Toyota Tacoma 4x4. I had the traction to steer, slow down and accelerate all in a very short time. Something you wouldn't have been able to do with the magical miracle stud-less snow tires people are opting for. I'm sorry, But in polished Ice conditions. Your not going to find ANY rubber tire in this world that will grip and hold traction on ice like studded tires will. I know in many states Studs are illegal and you have no other option, but in places like the Pacific Northwest they are legal and for your own safety. They are the best option for the road conditions and hills we have here. Dash camera used is a Cobra CDR 900.

Listening is a more natural way of learning, when compared to reading. Written language only began at around 3200 BC, but spoken language has existed long ago.
Learning by listening is a great way to:
- increases imagination and understanding
- improves your listening skills
- improves your own spoken accent
- learn while on the move
- reduce eye strain
Now learn the vast amount of general knowledge available on Wikipedia through audio (audio article). You could even learn subconsciously by playing the audio while you are sleeping! If you are planning to listen a lot, you could try using a bone conduction headphone, or a standard speaker instead of an earphone.

SUMMARY
=======
Portland is the largest city in the U.S. state of Oregon and the seat of Multnomah County. It is a major port in the Willamette Valley region of the Pacific Northwest, at the confluence of the Willamette and Columbia rivers. As of 2017, Portland had an estimated population of 647,805, making it the 26th-largest city in the United States, and the second-most populous in the Pacific Northwest (after Seattle). Approximately 2.4 million people live in the Portland metropolitan statistical area (MSA), making it the 25th most populous MSA in the United States. Its Combined Statistical Area (CSA) ranks 18th-largest with a population of around 3.2 million. Approximately 60% of Oregon's population resides within the Portland metropolitan area.Named after Portland, Maine, the Oregon settlement began to be populated in the 1830s near the end of the Oregon Trail. Its water access provided convenient transportation of goods, and the timber industry was a major force in the city's early economy. At the turn of the 20th century, the city had a reputation as one of the most dangerous port cities in the world, a hub for organized crime and racketeering. After the city's economy experienced an industrial boom during World War II, its hard-edged reputation began to dissipate. Beginning in the 1960s, Portland became noted for its growing progressive political values, earning it a reputation as a bastion of counterculture.The city operates with a commission-based government guided by a mayor and four commissioners as well as Metro, the only directly elected metropolitan planning organization in the United States. The city government is notable for its land-use planning and investment in public transportation. Portland is frequently recognized as one of the world's most environmentally conscious cities because of its high walkability, large community of bicyclists, farm-to-table dining, expansive network of public transportation options, and over 10,000 acres (4,000 hectares) of public parks. Its climate is marked by warm, dry summers and cool, rainy winters. This climate is ideal for growing roses, and Portland has been called the City of Roses for over a century.
