Electric Bikes By the Beach
Starting on December 2nd and continuing through the weekend, the Santa Monica Pier parking lot was transformed into an event space where participants could learn about electric bikes and try one out themselves on a track constructed for the event. Since January, the Electric Bike Expo has been travelling from city to city, teaching residents of towns throughout the Western United States about e-bikes. Santa Monica was the ninth and final city scheduled for their 2016 series of events.

Gorgeous topography, temperate weather, and a bike-loving populous help make Santa Monica an ideal destination for two-wheeled adventure. Whether you favor a leisurely beach cruise, a scenic road ride, or an epic patch of singletrack, the area’s diverse trails, roads, and tours deliver. Navigating the city by bike is also a breeze thanks to bright green bike lanes that help protect cyclists and Breeze Bike Share program, which offers both advance online and on-the-spot rental options.
Saddle up for motorized bicycle tours that allow visitors to rest their weary legs as they zip merrily between the city’s most famous landmarks. With Pedal... or Not Electric Bicycle Tours, discover the soul of Santa Monica—from Muscle Beach to the historic Marion Davies guesthouse—on two- to three-hour outings, or customize a private tour.
Known to locals as “The Strand,” this iconic multiuse recreational path stretches from Pacific Palisades to Torrance, packing in 22 miles of inspiring coastal scenery. Start your Santa Monica biking adventure at Will Rogers State Beach in Pacific Palisades, continuing past popular surf breaks along Santa Monica State Beach, underneath the Santa Monica Pier, and, by the famed Muscle Beach. Continue along Washington Boulevard through Marina del Rey—the only stretch where riders encounter motorists—before hitting a coastal trail again in Playa del Rey. Those with stamina can press on through Venice, El Segundo, Manhattan, Hermosa, and Redondo Beach, all the way to the path’s end at Torrance County Beach.
Seemingly tailor-made for townie riders, Main Street is especially desirable because of the numerous shops and restaurants, as well as the Sunday farmers market. The market has a free bike valet; plus, there are three bike corrals on Main Street, which make parking convenient and safe for riders. (The two corrals on the east side of Main Street have seven racks with room for 14 bikes, and the one on the west has four racks with space for eight bikes.) Thanks to the recent addition of green bike lanes on Main Street and neighboring Ocean Park Boulevard, Broadway, and Second Street, and several bike boxes, all of those streets are well-equipped for casual riders.

An electric bicycle, also known as an e-bike or booster bike, is a bicycle with an integrated electric motor which can be used for propulsion. There are a great variety of e-bikes available worldwide, from e-bikes that only have a small motor to assist the rider's pedal-power to somewhat more powerful e-bikes which tend closer to moped-style functionality: all, however, retain the ability to be pedalled by the rider and are therefore not electric motorcycles. E-bikes use rechargeable batteries and the lighter varieties can travel up to 16 to 20 mph, depending on the laws of the country in which they are sold, while the more high-powered varieties can often do in excess of 28 mph. In some markets, such as Europe, they are gaining in popularity and taking some market share away from conventional bicycles, while in others, such as China, they are replacing fossil fuel-powered mopeds and small motorcycles.
Depending on local laws, many e-bikes are legally classified as bicycles rather than mopeds or motorcycles, so they are not subject to the more stringent laws regarding their certification and operation, unlike the more powerful two-wheelers which are often classed as electric motorcycles. E-bikes can also be defined separately and treated as a specific vehicle type in many areas of legal jurisdiction.
E-bikes are the electric motor-powered versions of motorized bicycles, which have been around since the late 19th century.
E-bikes use rechargeable batteries, electric motors and some form of control. Battery systems in use include sealed lead-acid (SLA), nickel-cadmium (NiCad), nickel-metal hydride (NiMH) or lithium-ion polymer (Li-ion). Batteries vary according to the voltage, total charge capacity (amp hours), weight, the number of charging cycles before performance degrades, and ability to handle over-voltage charging conditions. The energy costs of operating e-bikes are small, but there can be considerable battery replacement costs. The lifespan of a battery pack varies depends on the type of usage. Shallow discharge/recharge cycles will help extend the overall battery life.

Pedego Redondo Beach| Electric Bike Store | Redondo Beach, California
Visit:
Pedego Redondo Beach is located just 10 minutes south of LAX. If you are in Los Angeles, Redondo Beach is a great beach destination for relaxation and recreation, such as riding a bike. Whether you ride a little or a lot, the ocean bike path here is flat and runs for 20 miles up to Santa Monica. Just perfect!
After selling their laundromat business, shop owners Kenny and Sue Kim are venturing out to offer their enthusiasm and excitement in Pedego electric bikes to local residents and tourists. They decided to open their Redondo Beach dealership soon after their initial Pedego e-bike rental experience. They are having so much fun and love seeing that same excitement catch on with customers.

Electric Bike Tour - Lincoln City to Cape Blanco round trip
I attempted to ebike down to Jedediah State Park, but ran into a motor issue that caused me to turn back early. It was a great trip all around, even though I didn't make it. I list all of the charging spots I found along the way. I'll be attempting to go to San Francisco with a new motor and different bag setup this week so I wanted to get this up before I go.

As promised, we’re going to do the annual run-down of the latest pro cycling team kits and using our style guru status, pass judgement as to whether they are hot, or not. As with our race predictions, if we say hot, you know it’s not. And vice versa. Now, the World Tour has kicked off at the Tour Down Under in Adelaide so all the men’s and almost all the women’s teams have been strutting their stuff. It’s quite the catwalk, isn’t it? Jon Cannings fitted right in.
Firstly, we’ve got some kits that are essentially the same. AG2R - still brown. Movistar men and women’s, still cool. Canyon SRAM - still super cool. Mitchelton Scott men’s and women’s - still a bit boring. Maybe why Caleb Ewan left? He looks faster than ever in his new Lotto Soudal kit, which is pretty much the same. Classic, not cool. BORA - still the same although, you might not realise this as Peter Sagan has never been able to wear it!
Which kits do you think are hot or not? Let us know in the comments section down below. ????

Electric scooters may not be around for long…
Electric scooters have been one of the biggest tech crazes of the last year, with venture capitalists pouring more than $1 billion into the startups. But the fundamental numbers don’t add up because the scooters don’t bring in enough money to cover their costs. If the business continues on its current path, the scooter hype might be short-lived.
