BEER SHOW NB ROADTRIP BRASSEURS PETIT SAULT
Brasseurs du Petit Sault - Bob LeBoeuf Belgian Blonde Ale - Craft Beer Review
We try out the second of the initial release beers from Brasseurs du Petit Sault from Edmundston, New Brunswick - Bob LeBoeuf. This is a 5.2% ABV Belgian Blonde Ale.
Hoping to get some earthy notes, a little sweetness etc..
Appearance - Nice deep straw, light gold color. A bit hazy. Nice white head with quicker fading than expected.
Aroma - Getting the zest mostly, maybe a hint of the sweetness from that Belgian sugars, hmmm?
Flavour - Lot of sweetness from malt in my opinion, orange, corriander taste. A little caramel at the end, maybe some Belgian candy sugar?
Mouthfeel - Fairly carbonated with moderate dryness at the end. Light mouthfeel not heavy.
Overall - has a lot more flavour and character than their other release Tante Blanche. So this a sweet with dry finish beer. Not bad for when you are outside.

Brasseurs du Petit Sault - Tante Blanche - Beer Review
I am trying out the first beer launched by Brasseurs du Petit-Sault, from my hometown area. This was launched during the spring of 2014, just in time for the Congrès mondiale acadien 2014.
This is a Belgian White beer, so I was expecting something like Blanche de Chambly, Allagash White; something like that since they are close to these fine breweries who do the Belgian styled beers.
One of things I remember during the lead up of their launch was that the beer was to be accessible to the locals, who will need to support the brewery in order to be a success. Well, being from up there and knowing what the locals drink; It's Labatt Wildcat, Coors Light, Bud Light, etc..
That being said, they have produced an interesting product to introduce the area to craft beer.
Packaged as a 6-pack stubbies and using locally influenced artwork, you can find this product in many liquor stores from New Brunswick.
Some of my Tasting Notes:
Appearance: Very clear straw colored beer with moussy head. Honestly I was expecting something a little more hazy.
Aroma: A little bit of sweetness, coriander, vanilla maybe? Others have said Apricot, but I didn't pick that up.
Flavour: Nice coriander taste as you begin to sip it, creamy. Sweetness. Something very familiar to those who like this style of beer.
Mouthfeel: light to medium mouthfeel, moderate carbonization. Not a lot of dryness at the end.

Maritime Beer Report - May 30, 2014
Hello and welcome to the May 30, 2014 edition of the Maritime Beer Report.
Tonight we start in northwestern New Brunswick where the Les Brasseurs du Petit-Sault launched their new beers recently, a blonde ale, named Bob LeBoeuf and a white, named Tante Blanche. The company's Communications Director Mychèle Poitras explains that the group always had two goals in mind in the development of their new beers. We always said we absolutely wanted to create quality beers that people would ask for time and again. We also said that our beers should tell a story... the story of our area. After much discussion and brainstorming, we quickly reached a consensus when we decided to honour our area's legendary characters... people who, in some way, captured the imagination of local residents.
Bob LeBoeuf was a bit of an excentric and a legendary prospector in Edmundston, who spent his life digging for precious metals in the mountains surrounding Edmundston. Tante Blanche saved her colony from a famine at the end of the 18th century by ordering that the rich should share with the poor in such desperate times and even delivered food to the poor in snowshoes.
They go on to say The characters on the two labels were created by local artists from Baker-Brook, Luc Cyr and Paula Lentz. Luc sculpted the characters, and Paula, with her paintbrushes, gave them their vivid colours. Edmundston graphic artist Sandi Émond packaged the work and created the labels.
To stay in tune with the nostalgic fantasy of the beers' branding, Petit-Sault Brewers will be bringing back the old stubby bottle for their beers. The stubby disappeared from the beer world in the early 80s. We wanted to stand out yet again and this bottle seemed appropriate for our beers and our branding, says Mychèle Poitras. The beers should be available in local NB Liquor stores as well as in the brewtique for off-site consumption. Beers will be available in single bottles, six-packs and 1.9 litre growlers that people will be able to have refilled at the brewery.
They hope to be open in the old police station in Edmunston for the tourist season in June.
A little down river Big Axe Brewery has its Shakesbeer Chocolate Oatmeal Stout on tap. They say it is a full and silky body stout, dark chocolate in colour. Aroma is rich with caramel malts, chocolate and a hint of vanilla. Very low citrus, earthy, roasty, charred bitterness herb hop character that makes this stout complex and original. This stouts weighs in at 6.5% ABV.
Garrison Brewing Company asks if Cornbread with Imperial IPA braised walnut + homemade queso fresco tickle your taste buds If it does there is a beer dinner with Seasons by Atlantica Hotel Halifax on June 4th. For reservations call 490-3366. They are also looking for a passionate and qualified Sales Representative to join their team. If you want to check it out visit the Garrison website.
A brewery I don't mention much is Keith's Brewery, but the had an interesting news release this week. They say Nova Scotia's original local beer, Alexander Keith's, is tapping into a growing trend. Labatt Breweries of Canada announced Tuesday that the 1.89-litre jugs known as growlers will be available at the Keith's retail store in the Historic Farmers' Market in downtown Halifax starting Sunday.
This is an exciting move for Alexander Keith's beer, Labatt corporate affairs director Wade Keller said in a release.Growlers are becoming more popular among consumers so it makes sense that the most popular beer in Nova Scotia would be available in this kind of packaging.
The Keith's retail store is open seven days a week; empty jugs and refills will each sell for $10.
Meander River Farm has been busy since selling out on opening day and they say to get your growlers ready. The next batch of Lunchbox Pale Ale is ready and they will be open this weekend both Saturday and Sunday from 11-5.
Propeller Brewing has yet another one off today with its Smoked Ale. This is a pale ale has 2 types of smoked malt, warrior and columbus, for bittering and willamette for flavour and aroma. They describe it as Malt forward with a light smokey flavour & aroma.
It's Lager time! says the Rock Bottom brewpub as Hali-Lager hits the taps this week. From their brewers blog This is our big little lager, with flavour. The perfect lawnmower brew, perhaps?! Brewed with North American malts to 4.5% ABV and 17 IBU worth of Hallertau Hersbrucker with a twist of Cascade hops in the finish; a fun little continental hybrid.
Schoolhouse Brewery is pleased to announce that their beer will soon be on tap in pubs. They will be on tap June 6th at the Library pub and June 7th at the Spitfire. Their initial beers are the Principal Ale a dry hoped pale ale and the Chequers Ale, a robust porter. I am anxious to try these for sure.
Uncle Leos Brewing are working on a new beer coming out in a few weeks, they tell me they are leaning towards a German Wheat. Stay tuned for developments.

The saga of ANBL's new Brewery Agency Stores policy continues. Stephen Dixon of Grimross Brewing and Mitch Biggar of Railcar Brewing met with ANBL this week. Grimross tells me that they are relatively unscathed in this issue and expansion plans continue. Railcar on their facebook page remain cautious but seem to be pushing ahead until Mitch says they can't. What remains in question is, will New Brunswick ever have another microbrewery?

Aroma is floral with hints of tropical fruit. Taste is tropical fruit with a lightly balanced hop bitterness. Refreshing summer beer. They also add the brewery build is progressing nicely at their new 4000 sq ft. space at 600 Bishop Drive, Fredericton NB.
Red Rover Brewing Company, who had one of my favorites at the Brewers Bash, is releasing Scrumpy Cider in celebration of the New Brunswick Highland Games Festival. Maritime Beer Report - November 1, 2013
Hello and welcome to the November 1st edition of the Maritime Beer Report
Celtic Knot Brewing in Riverview are brewing their next beer, a winter barley wine called Toque and Mitts., how Canadian. They hope to have it to market by December 1st and is described as dark and malty and comes in around 7.5% ABV.
Grimross had a great blog post talking about their first four months. They wondered if the small brewery was too big but quickly found out it was too small and struggled working full time jobs and the brewery 7 days a week to meet demand. They work hard to to keep beer on the shelf at the Grimross fridge at Picaroons Brewtique as well as now selling beer on tap at two bars in Fredericton and one in Moncton. They're next challenge is to determine how we are going to increase production to keep up with demand. This story is one to follow, best of luck.
Picaroons Traditional Ales now has the anticipated Winter Warmer now on tap at their brewtique in Downtown Fredericton. Cheers
There is a new microbrewery opening in Edmundston, Les Brasseurs du Petit-Sault. They held two information meetings for the public over the last two weeks about the brewery and possibly investing in it. They will move into the old police station in the downtown core of Edmundston, aiming for a May 2014 opening.
The 1st Annual Big Spruce Home Brew Competition was launched last Friday It is open to all Nova Scotian home brewers with the grand prize of spending the day at Big Spruce Brewing creating a single full size batch of your winning brew on their 7 barrel system. Your brew will then be released at the Craft Beer and Local Food Celebration on January 16th, 2014. The style is an American IPA, which is 14B in the BJCP Style Guidelines. Get all the details on the Big Spruce facebook page today.
Bridge Brewing Company will no longer be attending the Historic Farmers' Market on Saturdays. They apologize for the inconvenience but also say they will be attending another market shortly. I'll pass along any details along as I get them.
Hell Bay Brewing Company has released its new seasonal the Wee Heavy. A strong Scotch ale, slightly sweet, rich and malty beer with caramel flavours and hints of smoke. 8% ABV. Sounds like another hit.
Paddy's Irish Brewpub in Kentville released their newest seasonal beer on tap, S'Mashed Pumpkin Ale. It looks delicious.
Sleeman Breweries laid off 14 more employees this week bringing the workforce down to 9 from a high of 32. Sleeman's , owned by Sapporo Holdings, spokesperson Pierre Ferland says .. this reduction is the best way to solidify the remaining jobs while we finalize an agreement with a perspective owner. Who is this mystery owner? Rumors abound it is Northhampton Brewing, owners of Picaroons. Mr Ferland will not comment on who it is and Sean Dunbar, Northhampton's prinipal, will not comment either. It is going to be interesting to see who takes this 27,000 hectolitre plant.

That is all for this week, thanks for joining me. Just a note, next weeks show will be earlier than normal and there will be none on the 15th due to other commitments. Good night and enjoy responsibly.

Maritime Beer Report - July 11, 2014
Hello and welcome to the July 11th edition of the Maritime Beer Report.
A another new brewery is trying to open in Riverview New Brunswick. AWOL Brewery hopes to brew up unique beers including mead. They have a crowdfunding campaign running right now on Indiegogo to raise $18,000 for commercial equipment to get them off the ground. This is a great grass roots chance to help get a small local business going. There are all kinds of levels to pick from and I really hope you consider helping him out and there are some great rewards as well.
Les Brasseurs du Petit-Sault launched their Tante Blanche last week and is available at the Deck Resto-Bar, at Station 127, at Frank's Bar & Grill and at the Fraser-Edmundston Golf Club.
Hammond River Brewing is brewing a new beer. It's a California Steam Ale style of beer and will be called Gammie'. The name is a tribute to the recent passing of the brewers father, and it's what all of his grand kids called him. HRB says This will be a very easy drinking beer with bready and toasty notes, along with some fruitiness. This will be brewed with San Francisco lager yeast but fermented a little closer to Ale temperatures, which will make this beer very unique.
Garrison Brewing Company announced their prices are going up this week in relation to growler fills. The prices will now be as follows: Core brands (Tall Ship, Irish Red, Nut Brown, etc.) will be $10 for a Growler fill and $6 for a Growlito fill. They will continue to have their All Day Growler Happy Hour on Thursdays with $1 off a Growler fill and $0.50 off a Growlito fill.
North Brewing Company had a great pairing event at Harbourstone Sea Grill and Pour House last night. At the event we got to try the new Halifax Common beer they are releasing tomorrow. It is a California Common style which is new to me. It was a dark straw in color and slightly cloudy. It had some nice fruitiness and biscuit flavors with a slight dry finish. It comes in at 5% ABV and should make a great summer beer. Other news from North is that they now are bottling 650 ml bombers that will allow them to be for sale at private stores.
Propeller Brewing Company are bringing back Prop'r Cask Night after a long hiatus on August 15th for a special 'Sausage Fest Edition'. Local chef Ludo Eveno of Agricola Street Brasserie will prepare a sausage feast worthy of memory. Of course being a Cask Night, patrons will also get to enjoy a very special one-off beer along with a fine roster of Propeller craft brews. Included in the ticket price is an Official Commemorative Sausage Fest Glass to remember this special event.

Sea Level Brewing says that its Blooberry Pail Ale has been on tap for a bit at the Port Pub, but is now in cans! This 5% ABV beer is made with Bloo Juice, blueberry juice made in the Annapolis valley. Seems like a great combination.
