Places to see in ( Reggio Emilia - Italy ) Piazza Fontanesi
Piazza Antonio Fontanesi is a square in Reggio Emilia. Rectangular, tree-lined with lime trees and surrounded by porticoes on two sides, Tuesday and Friday is home to the market, traditionally for fruit and vegetables.
The square was born after the demolition of the block on which stood houses, the convent and the parish church of Santa Maria Maddalena, which took place in 1783. It remained market square and even with rubble for almost a century, was placed at the end of the nineteenth century with the planting of tall trees and named after Antonio Fontanesi .
The modern flooring highlights the aforementioned area and the path of the Secchia canal, on the eastern side, which once crossed the city and whose memory has remained in the toponymy of some surrounding streets. Some elegant buildings overlook the square, including the fifteenth-century Palazzo Calcagni (later Friggieri then Chierici).
Piazza Fontanesi is one of the most characteristic and lively square of the historical centre of Reggio Emilia. It's full of trees and embraced by porches all around. The area of the square was obtained by the demolition of the previous quarter composed by some houses and the convent and church of Saint Mary Magdalen.

Piazza del Duomo of Reggio Emilia or Piazza Vittorio Emanuele II now Piazza Camillo Prampolini - also called Piazza Grande as opposed to Piazza Piccola ( Piazza San Prospero ) - took on its current shape and appearance during the Renaissance period. The square was named after Vittorio Emanuele II and after 1945 it was unofficially dedicated to the socialist Reggiano Camillo Prampolini .
On this square overlook the most important buildings of the political and religious life of the city, among others the bishop's palace and the Duomo , of which you can admire the baptistery whose original construction dates back to the Middle Ages , and which was then restructured and main apse to make room for the bishop's palace. The plan of the baptistery of Reggio Emilia, before the medieval restructuring, had the peculiarity of recalling that of the Holy Sepulcher of Jerusalem. The building has undergone a restoration in recent times.
On the north side stands the Palazzo del Monte, from which rises the civic tower with the clock. On the opposite side stands the Town Hall building, with the Sala del Tricolore and, to the south-east, the Torre del Bordello, now home to municipal offices. The western side of the square is occupied by the Notaries, the former seat of the college of notaries, and the Palazzo del Podestà.

Reggio Emilia is a city in northern Italy, in the Emilia-Romagna region. It has about 171,400 inhabitants and is the main comune of the Province of Reggio Emilia. The town is also referred to by its more official name of Reggio nell'Emilia. Often written off as an emergency pit stop on the Via Emilia, Reggio Emilia states its case as the birthplace of the Italian flag – the famous red, white and green tricolour – and a convenient base for sorties south into the region's best natural attraction, the Parco Nazionale dell'Appennino Tosco-Emiliano.
Those savvy enough to get out of their train/car/bus will find a cyclist-friendly city of attractive squares, grand public buildings and a leafy park. Known also as Reggio nell'Emilia, the town started life in the 2nd century BC as a Roman colony along the Via Emilia. Much of Reggio was built by the Este family during the 400 years it controlled the town, beginning in 1406.
The best Reggio Emilia can offer is all in the city center, so you probably won't need to get a taxi. Taxi are not so common in Reggio Emilia, it's almost impossible to see one around in the streets. If you need one, you can catch it at the train station, or just make sure to have phone numbers to call one. Visit the Maramotti collection of modern art, located in what was formerly the site of production of Max Mara clothing in the suburb of Pieve Modolena (reached with a short westward trip by bus along the via Emilia)

The hills and the mountains in the south of Reggio Emilia are definitely worth a visit, but you can reach some areas only if you have a car or a motorbike. The main locations will be served also by public transports (bus). If you travel by bus make sure to buy your return ticket before leaving Reggio and to check the time tables, as there's no public transport in the evening and in the night.

The Teatro Municipale is a theatre in Reggio Emilia, Northern Italy. Following the destruction by fire of the 1741 Teatro Cittadella in April 1851, the new theatre was designed by the architect Cesare Costa and connstructed in the neoclassic style between 1852 and 1857. Its inauguration took place on 21 April 1857 with the performance of the Vittor Pisani by local composer Achille Peri.
It is the pre-eminent public theatre of the city and is located in its historical centre next to the public park and near the smaller and more recent theatre Teatro Ariosto. It sponsors concerts, operas and ballet performance, while the adjacent, smaller, and more recently built Teatro Ariosto serves a more intimate stage for dramatic performances. The theatre has a rectangular base that measures 80 x 43.60 meters and covers an area of 3,763 square meters. The audience capacity is 1150 people. It has 56 dressing rooms for the artists and 16 anterooms.
The concert hall is elliptical and has 106 boxes placed on four tiers plus a regal box and a gallery. The frescoes on the ceiling are of the local artist Domenico Pellizzi. The curtain was painted by Alfonso Chierici. The outside is composed by 12 Tuscan columns made of granite on the ground floor while on the first floor it has 13 windows spaced by Ionic columns. On top of the building there are statues made by sculptors Prudenzio Piccioli, Ilario Bedotti, Giovanni Chierici, Antonio Ilarioli, Attilio Rabaglia.

in Reggio Emilia's municipal infant-toddler centres and preschools
A piazza is a significant space in a city, public space par excellence it is a place of collectivity and encounter. It is also a metaphor that has woven an architectural space in the city, and in infant-toddler
centres and preschools, with an idea of participation, democracy and relations.
In the journey leading up to the 2017-2020 City Child Councils elections, the theme of the piazza or square was the subject of deeper exploration in Reggio Emilia's municipal infant-toddler centres and preschools.
This in turn led to making a video based on children's ideas and thoughts about the square.
