The Reversing Falls are a series of rapids on the Saint John River located in Saint John, New Brunswick, Canada, where the river runs through a narrow gorge before emptying into the Bay of Fundy.
The diurnal tides of the bay force the flow of water to reverse against the prevailing current at this location when the tide is high, although in the spring freshet, this is frequently surpassed by the downstream volume of water. The rapids, or falls, are created by a series of underwater ledges which roil the water in either direction, causing a significant navigation hazard, despite the depth of water.

The Reversing Falls are a series of rapids on the Saint John River located in Saint John, New Brunswick, Canada, where the river runs through a narrow gorge before emptying into the Bay of Fundy.
The phenomenon of the Reversing Falls is caused by the tremendous rise and fall of the tides of the Bay of Fundy, which are the highest in the world.
As the bay tides begin to rise, they slow the course of the river and finally stop the river's flow completely. This short period of complete calm is called slack tide. It is only at this time that boats are able to navigate the Falls. Shortly after this slack tide the bay tides become higher than the river level and slowly, at first, the river begins to flow upstream. As the bay tides continue to rise, the reverse flow gradually increases and the rapids begin to form, reaching their peak at high tide. The effect of this reversal is felt upstream as far as Fredericton, more than 80 miles inland. At this point the tidal waters are actually 14 ½ feet higher than the river

REVERSING FALLS in SAINT JOHN - DJI PHANTOM 4
The Reversing Falls in Saint John, New Brunswick are a natural phenomenon. Located where the St. John River spills out into the Bay of Fundy, these falls get their name from a phenomenon that makes it appear as though the river is flowing in reverse. During low tide, the river empties into the Bay of Fundy, resulting in a series of rapids and whirlpools. As the tide rises, the bay fills up, reversing the flow of the water.

Reversing Falls, Saint John New Brunswick
A unique phenomenon created by the collision of the Bay of Fundy and the Saint John River. At low tide the river empties into the bay causing a series of rapids and whirlpools. As tides rise they slow the river current for a brief period called slack tide. The Bay's tides continue to rise, gradually reversing the flow of the river, and rapids form again, peaking at high tide. Tide cycles take about 12.5 hours.

So glad you found us! Welcome to our journey of RV life in our Jayflight which we call The Nest pulled by our Dodge Ram Burton.
Get to know us: We are a family of four from Canada. God provided the opportunity for our house to sell in a matter of days without us even putting it on the market (which is highly unusual in McBride,BC) so we took the privilege to travel BC and beyond. It really is an amazing story... With 6 weeks to pack up, buy an RV and truck it was a crazy time. Just wish I had vlogged that time.
Anyway here we are about two and a half years later loving this wonderful opportunity to explore more. This includes parts of Nicaragua, where we lived for 3 months. To watch those videos click this playlist .
Thank you for joining us on our journey from the mountain summits to the beautiful salt sea and many places in between.
Please subscribe ???? and comment if you like ???? Also a thumbs up is appreciated. ????
