Most people just stop by gornergrat but if you actually stop in the middle at RIFFELBEG and hike about 2 hours you can definitely enjoy the true beauty of this adventure...

SWITZERLAND | Day 4 at Riffelsee, Gornergrat, 5-Seenweg | Sep 2018
Day 4 of my Switzerland adventure, spent with new people I met in Grindelwald. We took the highest open-air railway to the top of Gornergrat, a 3,135 metres high rocky ridge of the Pennine Alps, overlooking the Gorner Glacier.
On the way, we made a quick stop at Riffelsee to admire the Matterhorn’s perfect reflection on the lakewater.
We headed back to Zermatt for some lunch and a taste of some ice cream from the most recommended café, Petit Royal.
Having a few more hours of daylight left, we decided to do the 5-Seenweg (Five Lakes Walk). It’s one of the many trails you can do around Zermatt, with the path leading past 5 different lakes.
Back to Zermatt for dinner and a hunt for a good viewpoint of the village and Matterhorn.

Gorner Gorge in Zermatt, Switzerland
The Gorner Gorge is one of the great adventure hikes in the Swiss Alps. It's just 10 minutes from the heart of Zermatt, and is easily accessible through a system of catwalks, platforms, and stairs that were built into the cliff walks back in 1886. When you explore the depths of the gorge, you'll experience gushing waterfalls and swirling pools. As the water from the 2nd largest glacial system in the Alps passes through this gorge, it cuts away cliff faces and exposes rock that's 220 million years old.
