THE HAMILTON EXPERIENCE
SAN FRANCISCO, CA
March 10, 2017
..a journey of a fanatic..
Our daughter Raian didn't know that we bought tickets to see her favorite show Hamilton, An American Musical that had its premiere showing last night (March 10, 2017) in San Francisco. She knew and memorized every single song in this musical and talked about this endlessly last year.
It has been her fervent wish to see it since last year when she learned that they are going to be playing in San Francisco in March 2017 and it was her wish for her 15th birthday last October which she also thought was a long-shot wish since the tickets were ridiculously expensive and Mom and Dad are surely going to do a pass on this one.
She has a scheduled college tour for March 10 (also the date of the premiere show) and we had asked her to cancel her college tour last week for that day so that we can go to San Francisco early and supposedly meet somebody important that evening. Boy, she was frustrated and was not very happy because she will lose the opportunity to tour Stanford and she was eagerly looking forward to this college tour. So, we had to be creative as to why we are going to San Francisco, but also giving her hints along the way (like a supposed meeting with our friends that we've known last year, Tita Elena, Jann and Alexie de Asis from New York..The original Alexander Hamilton Musical is from New York; and playing the soundtrack of Hamilton while we were driving up during which she sang her heart out..We did not know how a fanatic she was until we heard her sing the songs word for word and note for note for the first time almost flawlessly).
Our hotel was near the Orpheum Theater where the show is going to be and you can see the longing in her eyes when she saw the theater as we drove by it. She was screaming and she thought that it was just a coincidence that the hotel that we booked is just around the corner of the theater. And still, not a clue as to why we really were in San Francisco. So near, yet so far!
After dinner, we strolled to go near the Orpheum Theater supposedly just to take pictures outside the theater, and all the while she was thinking how lucky are the people in line that has tickets in hand, and are going to see the show! Nearing the entrance, we gave her an envelope to open, and she thought at first that it was just the keys to our rooms and she thought it was just one thing that her mom wants her to hold. Her dad had to ask her a few times to open the envelope. And oh boy! When she saw what's in the envelope and realized that they are Hamilton Tickets, the look on her face was priceless! She started to cry. She cried with tears of happiness going to the entrance and along the hallways of the theater.
To see her so happy and well beyond belief is worth the week of finding ways to ease her frustration of missing the Stanford and SJSU college tour! She loved every minute of it, transfixed in the show, clapped and hollered the loudest and lip-synced the songs while they were sung by each actor with all the passion that comes with it during the entirety of the show.
Imagine, one actor memorizing his lines assigned to his character and how difficult it is to do this. And now, imagine memorizing all the lines of each character and how amazing this feat would be. And RAIAN, she sang through each character's lines word for word and note for note with the same speed that each character had sung it. Then you realize.. SHE IS THE EMBODIMENT OF THE WHOLE HAMILTON MUSICAL!!!
Raian, your dad and I are very proud of you because you have grown to be this good girl that we want you to be. We are so happy that you loved this big birthday surprise. We love you and hope that this will be one of the sweetest memory in your life.

We're Going Through a Stage
CURRAN UNDER CONSTRUCTION
For nearly 100 years theatergoers have filled the Curran’s 1,600 seats to see some of the biggest shows in history.
For the next year, we’re changing the model.
While the theater undergoes a renovation, audiences will gather on the stage—which will be left untouched—for intimate and cutting-edge works curated by Carole Shorenstein Hays.
Enter through the stage door.
ABOUT CURRAN
Built in 1922, the Curran has housed some of the most important productions in theater history and has maintained a reputation over the course of its life as one of the most prestigious live entertainment venues in North America. Now, almost a century after it welcomed its first Bay Area audiences, the Curran is undergoing a major restoration and renovation. Under the curation of nine-time Tony Award winner Carole Shorenstein Hays, the Curran will reopen its 1,600 seat venue in late 2016 with the new mission. Inspired by the unique entrepreneurial spirit of the Bay Area, as well as Carole’s lifelong exuberance for creatively daring, cutting-edge material, the Curran will provide a home for a handpicked selection of the most exciting stage works being conceived and created anywhere today.
