SELDOVIA ALASKA TRIP
A series of videos taken from Homer to Seldovia Alaska. Seldovia can only be reached by boat or small plane. I took the Seldovia Ferry from Homer to Seldovia for a few hours before returning the same way. Some of the clips have a lot of wind noise so be prepared. The clips include the boat ride, walking around town, visiting the museum, etc.
Thanks for watching and enjoy.

Seldovia Alaska is certainly one of the most beautiful places to visit in all of Alaska. Located 45 minutes by boat and southwest of Homer, Alaska, Seldovia and this area boasts to be the halibut fishing capital of the world.
Seldovia is a very quaint and totally quiet town. There are 384 acres to the town of Seldovia and there are a mere 262 residents. Yeah everyone knows everyone and they are quite friendly.
Have you ever seen the TV show Northern Exposure? Well it could totally have been written about Seldovia.
An interesting fact from Wikipedia says that Seldovias median age is 48.2. COOL!

Flying to my Favorite & Most Beautiful Alaska Village of SELDOVIA
Crave Life Episode 29
Alaska has over 200 Native villages, but Seldovia is the most beautiful one of them all. It is a tourist destination in the summer, quiet sleepy paradise in the winter and home to year round King Salmon fishing in the Kachemak Bay. Kachemak Bay is also home to some of the biggest Halibut in the world.
Visiting Alaska requires a trip to Seldovia, make sure to put this Bucket list destination on your schedule.

MV Tustumena serves the Alaskan communities of: Homer, Chignik, Cold Bay, False Pass, King Cove, Kodiak, Sand Point, Unalaska/Dutch Harbor & Akutan.
The Alaska Marine Highway System is a rare example in the United States of a shipping line offering regularly scheduled service for the primary purpose of transportation of passengers rather than of leisure or entertainment. Voyages can last many days, but, in contrast to the luxury cruise line, cabins cost extra, & food is served cafeteria style.

Seeing the Aleutians by Ferry - the MV Tustumena, July 2019
Jon, Joy, and Paul Sharpe took the MV Tustumena from Homer to Dutch Harbor and back in early July 2019. This was a bucket list item for all of them for decades. Admittedly, the weather was phenomenal, so what you see in this video may not represent accurately the conditions someone might encounter if they book a trip in the future. At one point the Captain/Pilot on the ferry got on the mic to tell us that in 15 years he could count on one hand the number of times he'd seen Frosty Peak that clearly. That was the story for much of the voyage. They told us before we went that the rain is usually horizontal, to bring lots of dramamine, and that the Tustumena is famous for rolling with the waves. We ended the trip with all of our dramamine unopened (four packages of it). The Tustumena does roll quite a bit, even in a moderate swell (got to 10 feet or so) on a beautiful day, but it didn't bother us - we were too focused on looking at the scenery. We slept on the deck on the way out to Dutch Harbor, but on the return we booked a four bunk stateroom. The round trip fare for an adult was $812, and for a senior it was $615 (approximately...can't remember exactly). The stateroom, one-way was $502. The Tustumena is scheduled to be replaced, perhaps next year. And, of course, the whole state ferry system could be drastically reduced by Governor Dunleavy who is dealing with a very difficult budget situation. Both of those circumstances made us decide to take this trip now, rather than wait. It may not exist much longer.
Kachemak Bay Shorebird Festival
This was shot during the 18th annual Kachemak Bay Shorebird Festival in Homer, Alaska.
According to their face book page, a group of Homer residents representing environmental, economic and cultural interests, got together to dream up an event. They envisioned a festival that would educate the public about shorebirds and wetlands. The Kachemak Bay Shorebird Festival was born. Mission: Festival enthusiasm has led to protection of critical shorebird habitat. Kachemak Bay has been included in the Western Hemisphere Shorebird Reserve Network. Habitat has been acquired and city land permanently protected on the Spit, in Beluga Slough, and Overlook Park. These lands are being preserved for the future and the Kachemak Bay Shorebird Festival played an important part in the process.

A glimpse of Seldovia, Alaska. This showcases just a small percentage of what Seldovia's beauty is all about.
In June 2015, Seldovia Native Association, Inc. (SNAI) commissioned a local photographer/videographer to shoot some landscape photography. While on the project, he brought along with him his drone and caught some gorgeous footage of the town.
Thank you to filmmaker/photographer Bryan Pentecostes for the beautiful work and sharing this video with SNAI.

A short video of the M/V Tustumena....the most exciting ship in the Alaska State Ferry fleet with the best crew. The Tustumena is on her summer route connecting isolated villages with the main road. An extension of the road system, The Alaska Marine Highway is a vital aspect for life in many Alaska Villages. It is also extremely popular with tourists who want a real experience and chance to see parts of Alaska most people don't see.

To get from All About The Blues, try a trip to Alaska! Alaska cruises are fabulous; for a 'smaller boat' experience, visitors consider taking a trip on an Alaska ferry- Alaska Marine Highway. Ferries are also used for other transportation such as for Alaska
residents, as ourselves. We drove our car onto the Tustumena ferry from the charming Homer, Alaska deep water dock for the trip to Kodiak Island. Viewing extraordinary scenery, lots of wildlife. Non-profit video, community service. 3:37min.
