Shinhotaka is an Onsen village located in the east of the Takayama town. Today's Japanesquest, I invited my local friend Lina, and together we will take you to Shinhotaka in Takayama!

Salju lebat menyertai kunjungan kami di Shin Hotaka yang dikenal sebagai Japan Alpine
Suhu di Obervatori Dek minus 8 derajat saat kami sampai diatas
Tak banyak yang bisa dinikmati saat cuaca tidak bersahabat begini
Namun menjadi sebuah pengalaman tersendiri berdiri diudara minus 8 derajat dan melepas hand gloves - untung tidak terserang frostbite

濃飛バス高山から新穂高ロープウェイ
Nohi bus drive from Takayama Station to Shin-hotaka Ropeway. Quite scenic and calming. Also, there are still some cherry blossoms around the area at that time. Perfect weather!
We took the first bus ride to Shin-Hotaka since we also have Kamikochi in the afternoon. Even though we traveled on a Friday, the bus to Shinhotaka isn't full. Passenger seats taken are nearly 1/3.

Correction: I've just realized that maybe Beppu is the most popular when it comes to onsens in Japan lol

One of Japan's most unique ropeways, the Shinhotaka Ropeway has one of the largest elevation gains in the country! It climbs up the side of the Hotaka Mountain Range, which includes Oku-Hotakedake, Japan's third highest peak. Its most distinguishing feature though is its double decker gondola cars, the first of their kind in Japan, which offer excellent views of the Okuhida Region.

Dapat dituju melalui 3 kota terdekat, yaitu Toyama, Kanazawa & Takayama. Kita waktu itu naik bus malam, yaitu dari Tokyo menuju ke Kanazawa. Pagi hari sampai di Kanazawa, kita breakfast & melepas lelah dulu, sebelum melanjutkan perjalanan dari Kanazawa menuju ke Shirakawago. Jangan lupa naik ke view point di atas, untuk melihat pemandangan Shirakawago Village dari atas bukit. Menjelang malam hari, kita balik dari Shirakawago menuju ke kota Takayama, tempat kita menginap.
Tiket bus Tokyo - Kanazawa: 5700 Yen
Tiket bus Kanazawa - Shirakawago: 1850 Yen
Tiket bus Shirakawago - Takayama: 2470 Yen
Tiket bus Shirakawago view point: 200 Yen sekali jalan

Hari berikutnya, kita berangkat menuju ke Shin Hotaka Ropeway dengan naik bus dari kota Takayama. Ropeway ini semacam cable car yang menuju ke titik puncak di mana kita dapat melihat pemandangan pegunungan Alpen Jepang. Sayangnya hari itu lumayan banyak kabut sehingga pemandangan di atas yang terlihat hanya putih saja.
Tapi untungnya anak-anak sangat senang main salju yang berlimpah di station cable car 1 & 2. Paket makan siang gratis dari Nouhi Bus juga enak & mengenyangkan, hehe.. Sebenarnya ada paket spa onsen juga, tapi kita sudah kedinginan, jadi tidak terpikir untuk berendam air hangat di suhu udara minus ini..

The Shin-Hotaka Ropeway (新穂高ロープウェイ) is one of Japan's most unique ropeways. It has one of the largest elevation gains in the country as it climbs over 1000 meters up the side of the Hotake Mountain Range, which includes Oku-Hotakedake, Japan's third highest peak. But its most distinguishing feature is its double decker gondola cars, the first of their kind in Japan, which offer excellent views of the Okuhida Region.
The ropeway is actually made up of two ropeways. The first is a short 200 meter climb on a single-story ropeway from the bus stop to Nabedaira Kogen. From Nabedaira Kogen the double decker ropeway climbs over 800 meters to the upper station at an altitude of around 2150 meters. The upper station has a restaurant, gift shop and an observation deck with spectacular views of the surrounding mountains and valleys. When there is no snow (usually from late June through September), it is also the starting point of a hiking trail further into the mountains

There's a Nouhi bus from Takayama that will take you straight to Shin-Hotaka Ropeway :D (part of my 5-day Wide Course Shoryudo Bus Pass ) then I waited at Hirayu Onsen Station to buy a ticket to Kamikochi :D ( Yes, Kamikochi isnt included in the Bus Pass)

The Shinhotaka Ropeway (新穂高ロープウェイ Shinhotaka Rōpuwei) is an aerial lift system in Takayama, Gifu Prefecture, Japan, and is operated by Okuhi Sightseeing Development (奥飛観光開発 Okuhi Kankō Kaihatsu). The Meitetsu Group company also operates hotels in the area. Opened in 1970, the line climbs to the hillside of the Hida Mountains' Mount Hotaka, the third tallest mountain in Japan.
The Shinhotaka Ropeway consists of two lines. Ropeway No. 2 is the first aerial lift in Japan to use double decker cabins.

SHIRAKAWAGO Day Trip from Takayama Winter Travel Guide
This episode we continued our Journey North of Tokyo to see the historic village of Shirakawago within the gifu prefecture, it is one of the best things to do in Japan. We stayed the night around Takayama as it was only an hour by bus to Shirakawago and we also did a Takayama Food tour and if you are wondering what to eat in takayama well its Hida Beef.
