he pools consist of three open cisterns, each rectilinear pool with a 6 metres (20 ft) drop to the next, fed from an underground spring. With each pool being over 100 metres (330 ft) long, 65 metres (213 ft) wide and 10 metres (33 ft) deep, the total water capacity is approximately 200,000,000 litres (53,000,000 USgal). Consequently the pools have played a significant role in the area's water supply for centuries.
They are erroneously named after the Biblical Solomon, stemming from a legend of Solomon using the waters and gardens as in Ecclesiastes 2.6, where Solomon is recorded as saying I made myself pools from which to water the forest of growing trees.[1] However, recent evidence suggests that the lowest pool was probably the constructed during the Maccabean period at the time of the reconstruction of the temple at Jerusalem (circa 2 BCE).
A second phase occurred when ancient Roman Pontius Pilate built 39 kilometres (24 mi) of aqueduct from the collection pools at Arrub. Roman engineering under Herod the Great in connection with his improvements to the Second Temple created the underground tunnel feeding the upper pool.[2]
Solomon's Pools
Biblical natural pools in southern Bethlehem were once part of an ancient waterway supplying water to Jerusalem.

PROOF! King David Palace Found! Jerusalem belongs to the Hebrews.
Time to go back to the beginning.
The God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob made an everlasting covenant that the land if Israel, and it's capital Jerusalem, forever belongs to the Hebrews. The descendants of Jacob (Israel) has the rightful ownership of the land, not the descendants of Ishmael. The Jews (Judah) and the other 11 tribes will forever own the land. Season 1, Episode 40
A Video Tour to the Pool of Siloan and Hezekiah's Tunnel in Jerusalem
The Pool of Siloam in Jerusalem has a significant Christian archeological meaning. It is the Pool of Siloam in which, according to the Gospel of John, is the place where Jesus healed a blind man by putting a mud on his eyes and sending him to wash them with the water of the pool. The name Siloam is the Greek transliteration of the Hebrew name Shiloah, which means “send” or “let go.” Isn’t that interesting?
Now why is this site of the Pool of Siloam so unique?
Because if we can find archeological evidence of the location of the Pool of Siloam, we can be sure that Jesus has actually been at this site.
So where is the Pool of Siloam?
The Pool of Siloam is mentioned several times in the Bible. Isaiah 8:6 mentions the pool’s waters, while Isaiah 22:9 refers to the construction of Hezekiah’s Tunnel.
The Pool of Siloam is a rock-cut pool on the southern slope of the City of David, the original site of Jerusalem, located outside the walls of the Old City to the southeast. The pool is fed by the waters of the Gihon Spring.
Until 2004, people thought that the pool at the end of Hezekiah’s Tunnel was the right location. The Byzantine empress, Eudocia (400–460 A.D), was the first to build a church there, but was destroyed when Jerusalem was captures by the Muslims. Today we can see some of the church pillars located at that pool (now called the Byzantine Pool). For years, the Byzantine Pool of Siloam was a sacred destination for Christian pilgrims from all over the world.
In the autumn of 2004, during a sewer excavation in the area, stone steps were found. The shape of these steps and the fact that there was a corner to the steps led to the assumption that these were not regular steps but part of a Second Temple-period pool. Excavations commenced and confirmed that this is the original Pool of Siloam dating back to the time of Jesus.
This archeological finding made the Pool of Siloam one of few places in Jerusalem where we can be sure that today we can actually walk on stones that Jesus has actually walked on.

Rare Second Temple Era Mikva (Ritual Purity Pool) Discovered in Jerusalem | מקוה עתיקה שהתגלתה בי-ם
JERUSALEM, ISRAEL - APRIL 10, 2013
According to Benyamin Storchan, director of the excavation on behalf of the Israel Antiquities Authority, Numerous ritual baths have been excavated in Jerusalem in recent years, but the water supply system that we exposed in this excavation is unique and unusual. The ritual bath consists of an underground chamber entered by way of steps. The mikva received the rainwater from three collecting basins (otzar) that were hewn on the roof of the bath, and the pure water was conveyed inside the chamber through channels. The ritual baths known until now usually consist of a closed cavity that was supplied with rainwater conveyed from a small rock-cut pool located nearby. The complex that was exposed at this time is a more sophisticated and intricate system. The bath was apparently associated with a settlement that was situated there in the Second Temple period. Presumably, due to the rainfall regime and arid conditions of the region, the inhabitants sought special techniques that would make it possible to store every drop of water. It is interesting to note that the bath conforms to all of the laws of kashrut, like collecting the water in it naturally without human contact, and ensuring that the water does not seep into the earth which is why the bath was treated with a special kind of plaster.
The ritual bath, which is located in a picturesque valley where there are ancient agricultural installations, was uncovered a short distance from the houses in the Kiryat Menachem quarter.
According to the Jerusalem district archaeologist, Amit Re'em, The neighborhood community has expressed great interest in the conservation of the mikva. The Israel Antiquities Authority and the Moriah Company are working to make this delightful treasure a site for the benefit of the residents and visitors.
After the ritual bath went out of use, the place served as a quarry and the channels filled up with earth. During the twentieth century the immersion chamber was cleaned, a round opening was breached in its ceiling and it was used as a cistern.
Pool of Bethesda, Jerusalem
Playlist: The Miracles of Jesus; click here:
The Pool of Bethesda, located in what is now the Muslim Quarter of Jerusalem, was near the Sheep Gate to the Temple. Here, according to the Gospel of John, many suffering people gathered by the water, waiting for the waters to be stirred by angels so that they could enter the water and be healed. When Jesus came to the pool, there was a man who was invalid for thirty-eight years. Jesus said to him, “Get up! Pick up your mat and walk.” The man was cured and he picked up his mat and walked. Before the 19th Century, scholars assumed that the pool was not a historic place and that the gospel writer was unfamiliar with Jerusalem and simply did not know; however, in the 19th Century archaeologists uncovered the pool which does match John's description.

Israel Trip: Day 4! (Jerusalem, Israel Museum, Yad Vashem, Western Wall)
Here's some footage from day 4 of our trip to Israel. We started the day by visiting the Israel Museum, where there was a massive model of first-century Jerusalem. After discussing some of the features of first-century Jerusalem, we headed to Yad Vashem, Israel's Holocaust museum and memorial. Then we spent some time at Machane Yehuda (a market area), before driving to the Western Wall, where a variety of Jews had gathered to sing, dance, pray, and weep. Once we left the Western Wall, we had a Sabbath meal with a Jewish family (though I didn't record it).

Part of an ancient aqueduct built more than 2,000 years ago to transport water into the city of Jerusalem was uncovered during a recent construction project, according to the Israel Antiquities Authority.
A section of the so-called Lower Aqueduct was discovered in the modern-day neighborhood of Umm Tuba, in East Jerusalem, during efforts to construct a new sewer line. The Lower Aqueduct was originally built more than 2,000 years ago by kings in the Hasmonean dynasty, who ruled Judea and its surrounding regions from about 140 B.C. to 37 B.C., and preceded King Herod the Great.
The sprawling, 13-mile-long (21 kilometers) aqueduct carried water to the capital, and operated intermittently until about 100 years ago, Ya'akov Billig, director of the aqueduct excavation with the Israel Antiquities Authority.
The Lower Aqueduct fed from the En Eitam spring, which is located near three ancient reservoirs known as Solomon's Pools that are about 3 miles (5 km) southwest of Bethlehem. As water passed through the channel, it flowed down a gentle slope to Jerusalem, passing through the modern-day neighborhoods of Umm Tuba, Sur Bahar, East Talpiot and Abu Tor.
Israel Trip: Day 6! (Dome of the Rock, Al-Aqsa Mosque, Pool of Bethesda, Church of Holy Sepulchre)
This morning, we woke up and walked from our hotel to the Temple Mount. As we walked, we located the United States Embassy in Jerusalem. On the Temple Mount, we recorded footage of the Al-Aqsa Mosque and the Dome of the Rock. After leaving the Temple Mount, we headed to the edge of Jerusalem to learn about the border fence.

The Temple | Bob Cornuke
Can you imagine the upheaval in political and religious thinking if the Temple Mount in Jerusalem is not the site of Solomon's and Herod's temples? And what if the stones of the Wailing Wall are not what tradition says? In this highly-researched, exciting book, the author proposes from current archaeological excavations and Scriptural corroboration that the true temple location is not where tradition teaches.

The Antonia Fortress: Pilate's Condemnation of Christ to Death on the Cross, Crucifixion, Jerusalem
The Antonia Fortress is the location where Christ was condemned to death by crucifixion.
Location
1. The Antonia Fortress was located just outside the Temple Mount area on its northwestern side.
2. Today, there is a school and a Convent of the Sisters of Zion that lies atop the ruins.
3. Part of the ruins of the Antonia Fortress can be accessed through the Convent of the Sisters of Zion.
4. The Antonia Fortress is the believed beginning place of the Via Dolorosa (painful path).
Historical Background
1. The Antonia Fortress was a military headquarters and barracks built by Herod the Great in 19 BC to protect the Temple Mount area and the city of Jerusalem. It was named after Herod’s patron, Mark Antony.
2. Jesus appeared before Pilate here and was condemned to death by crucifixion.
3. Some believe that Pilate’s Headquarters were at his palace located on the northern side of Jerusalem by the Jaffa Gate. However, in the biblical account, there are references to soldiers being present, and other details which seems to indicate Pilate’s Headquarters were at the Antonia Fortress.
4. Some believe that the Antonia Fortress encompassed all the current Temple Mount and that the original Temple Mount was in the City of David. However, Scripture clearly states that at the dedication of the temple that Solomon built, in 2 Chronicles 5, that the Ark of the covenant was brought, “out of the City of David” to the temple. “Then Solomon assembled to Jerusalem the elders of Israel and all the heads of the tribes, the leaders of the fathers’ households of the sons of Israel, to bring up the ark of the covenant of the Lord out of the City of David, which is Zion” (2 Chron. 5:2). If the Ark was brought out of the City of David to the temple, then the temple couldn't have been in the City of David. There is also overwhelming historical and archaeological evidence, and the writings of the famous Jewish historian, Flavius Josephus, that contradict the belief that the Antonia Fortress encompassed all the Temple Mount.

The Story of Hezekiah's Tunnel
2700 years ago, under threat of siege, King Hezekiah of Judah completed one of the engineering marvels of the ancient world. This 1750 foot rock cut channel travels through solid rock diverting the water from the Gihon Spring to inside the fortified city wall, preventing access to the encroaching Assyrian army.
