YORK VLOG!!! St Mary's Abbey
Jedno z największych i najbogatszych opactw w średniowiecznej Anglii !!!
Once the richest abbey in the north of England,[2] it lies in what are now the York Museum Gardens, on a steeply-sloping site to the west of York Minster.
The original church on the site was founded in 1055 and dedicated to Saint Olaf II of Norway. After the Norman Conquest the church came into the possession of the Anglo-Breton magnate Alan Rufus who granted the lands to Abbot Stephen and a group of monks from Whitby. The abbey church was refounded in 1088[1][3] when the King, William Rufus, visited York in January or February of that year[4] and gave the monks additional lands. The following year he laid the foundation stone of the new Norman church and the site was rededicated to the Virgin Mary.[5][6] The foundation ceremony was attended by bishop Odo of Bayeux and Archbishop Thomas of Bayeux.[2] The monks moved to York from a site at Lastingham in Ryedale in the 1080s and are recorded there in Domesday.[2] Following a dispute and riot in 1132, a party of reform-minded monks left to establish the Cistercian monastery of Fountains Abbey.[7] In 1137 the abbey was badly damaged by a great fire.[5] The surviving ruins date from a rebuilding programme begun in 1271 and finished by 1294.
York Part 2 - St Mary's Abbey
I've discovered the ruins of an abbey, St Mary's, once the most prosperous churches in England - until Henry VIII had it destroyed.

Listen to a simulated concert in St. Mary's Abbey | Science News
Only ruins remain of St. Mary’s Abbey in York, England. But Damian Murphy and colleagues built a computer simulation to restore the acoustic grandeur of the 16th century church. A recording made in an echo-free room begins the piece. The acoustics of another cathedral, York Minster in England, are applied after 8 seconds, and the music becomes more reverberant. At around 22 seconds, the acoustics is changed to match that reconstructed for the ruined abbey.

YORK MINISTER ENGLAND CLIFFORD TOWER ST MARY'S ABBEY SHAMBLES
EE York Minster, ENGLAND, the historic cathedral church stands at the city's centre. The city centre is nearly surrounded by walls, pictured. To walk the entire circuit (including parts where walls never existed) is about 3 miles. The Shambles is perhaps York's most iconic street. Formerly the lamb-butchers district, it retains most of its feel from around 4-500 years ago. It contains the shrine of Margaret Clitherow, and many gift shops. The city has many museums, including the Castle Museum, Yorkshire Museum & Gardens, Richard III Museum and the York Dungeon. The National Railway Museum is situated just behind the station, and is home to the largest static collection of railway locomotives in the world, including the world's fastest steam locomotive LNER 4468 Mallard.
YORK, England | Shambles and the Ruins of St.Mary's Abbey (self guided walking tour)
One of the highlights for us in York was the ruins of this beautiful Abbey
The York Museum gardens are a wonderful place to explore on your way to the ruins of St Mary's Abbey. There is also a very beautiful section of old city wall to see here. There are many entrances to the City Walls in York, this one just happens to be near the Abbey ruins and also provides a wonderful view of York Minster.
From here, we went on to explore our first section of the city walls.
The city walls ended up being our favourite place in York. We packed a picnic each night and brought a beverage with us. We would then find a place along the wall to sit down, with our legs dangling over the edge, and eat our dinner as the sun set over this beautiful city.

England 2018 Fountains Abbey
This set of vacation pictures begin with St. Mary's chapel, a beautiful little church on the Abbey grounds. We then move to Fountains Hall where during the 1930's, benefactors called the Settlers Society ran a trade school for deprived teens from Northeastern England. We then move onto the ruins of the Cistercian abbey which was plundered by Henry the VIII's cronies.

Whitby and its Abbey | England #4
Full steam ahead! A visit to the English harbour town of Whitby. Once one of England's most important sea ports. The main landmark of this busy tourist town is the abbey ruins, towering high above the houses. Whitby was the location of a synod of the Northumbrian church in 664. The gathering is often remembered as 'the' synod where the Roman manner of calculating the date of Easter was chosen above that of the Irish.

Ancient Exploring: Bath Abbey, England: Church of Saint Peter and Saint Paul
The Abbey Church of Saint Peter and Saint Paul, Bath, commonly known as Bath Abbey, is an Anglican parish church and a former Benedictine monastery and a proto (former) Co-cathedral in Bath, Somerset, England. Founded in the 7th century, Bath Abbey was reorganised in the 10th century and rebuilt in the 12th and 16th centuries; major restoration work was carried out by Sir George Gilbert Scott in the 1860s. It is one of the largest examples of Perpendicular Gothic architecture in the West Country. The cathedral was consolidated to Wells Cathedral in 1538 after the abbey was dissolved in the Dissolution of the Monasteries, but the name of the diocese has remained unchanged.
The church is cruciform in plan, and able to seat 1200. An active place of worship, it also hosts secular civic ceremonies, concerts and lectures. Its congregation numbers in the hundreds, and annual visitors in the hundreds of thousands. The choir performs in the abbey and elsewhere. There is a heritage museum in the vaults.
The abbey is a Grade I listed building,[3][4] particularly noted for its fan vaulting. It contains war memorials for the local population and monuments to several notable people, in the form of wall and floor plaques and commemorative stained glass. The church has two organs and a peal of ten bells. The west front includes sculptures of angels climbing to heaven on two stone ladders.

A Wedding Video from The Hospitium in York
The 14th century Hospitium is a two-storey listed building set within the beautiful Museum Gardens, overlooked by the striking ruins of St Mary’s Abbey in the centre of York. This unique venue was the perfect setting for the wedding on Anneliese and Jon. Guests came from all over to celebrate this special day and especially a large contingent from Anneliese's native Germany.
After an emotive ceremony the celebrations got underway in the grounds outside, overlooking the museum gardens, before moving back inside for the very entertaining speeches and finally an exciting end to the festivities with a Tina Turner tribute act.
I'd like to thank Annelies and Jon, and their families and friends for making me feel welcome and allowing me to film their most special day
Selby Abbey: Drone footage inside the abbey
This drone video from inside the Selby Abbey was taken while we were recording the Regent Classic Organs DVD with Joseph Nolan.
Selby is a small Yorkshire town, 12 miles South of York with one of the most superb Abbey churches to be found anywhere in England. Selby Abbey is often called the hidden Gem of Yorkshire as no other church has the size, the age or the beauty that makes this building so unique.
You can find more about the DVD on our website:
