Moderated by Dr. Condoleezza Rice, Eric Schmidt, Executive Chairman of Google and Jared Cohen, Director of Google Ideas discuss how technology will change privacy and security, war and intervention, diplomacy, and terrorism. When you empower people with tools like technology, democracy flourishes, said Schmidt.
For the developing world, the arrival of the smartphone and access to the Internet is life-changing. Didn't recognise this tune.
A matric student called Siya (who told me he plays Sax) identified it for me - Spain (Chick Corea?)
Sparked a nice conversation of who's your favourite sax player?
(ME: Paul Desmond/Gerry Mulligan/Stan Getz/Joshua Redman. SIYA: John Coltrane)
which is your favourite Coltrane album?
(SIYA: Blue Trane. ME: A Love Supreme)
That's what I love about Joburg (South Africans in general), we are a friendly bunch.

Fire poi / Pod Poi performances by Glenn (but usually a lot slower).
Audio remixed by Psycandy on a 125bpm bassline with edited excerpt from “A Conversation with Ricky Lee Jones” ( ) and a track called “India (Original Mix)”, a wave purchased from Beatport but nowhere in the file properties does it mention the artist. Original track duration is 16:41. I’ve tried hunting down whom this might be, to no avail.
No thanks to Canon for making the 350D almost impossible to shoot timelapse or hyperlapse with. The addition of a timer bricked one of two bodies, so all outdoor sequences were triggered manually by standing there and counting to 50 repeatedly for several hours. That’s technology for you.

Lecture 7: Shifting Goalposts: The Anti-Tax Movement
Why was the estate tax, which is paid by only the wealthiest two percent of Americans, repealed in 2001 with broad bipartisan support? Prof. Shapiro unravels this puzzle in this lecture by going over the origins of the anti-tax movement, the logic of referendum politics, and 1994 as a pivot point. He then hones in on the estate tax repeal as a case study, discusses tax cuts and the Republican coalition and how far the goalposts have shifted for today's U.S. tax politics.
