Friday Harbor Washington - San Juan Islands Puget Sound
Friday Harbor is a favorite destination for many visiting the San Juan Islands. Reachable by Washington State Ferry, Private Boat, or Float Plane, Friday Harbor is a great place to catch a Whale Watching Excursion boat, go on a fishing charter or to make as a home base for visiting day trips to nearby Orcas Island, and Lopez Island.
The Washington State Ferry makes it easy to bring your car from the mainland so you can explore the Islands and you can also continue on to Victoria on Vancouver Island in Canada. Friday Harbor is the only incorporated city in the San Juan Islands and its also the county seat.
No visit to the San Juan Islands is complete without a visit to Friday Harbor and Roche Harbor with shares the same island as Friday Harbor.

Our Alaska Vacation
We visited two Alaska national parks: Kenai Fjords to the south of Anchorage, and Denali to the north. We flew to Anchorage and traveled by train, bus and boat to our destinations. We only spent two nights in each park, but saw a lot and had a good time. This video is exactly 15 minutes and captures the highlights.

Moran State Park - Washington state park - Orcas Island , USA
Moran State Park is a Washington state park located on Orcas Island encompassing over 5,000 acres (2,000 ha)[2] of forest, much of it old growth. It is the largest public recreation area in the San Juan Islands. Mount Constitution (elevation 2,409 feet (734 m)) is a focal point of the park. A road and hiking trails lead to the top of the mountain and a 360-degree view of the region's mountain and marine geography. An observation tower, built in the 1930s, is patterned after the 12th-century Caucasian towers.[3]
The land for Moran State Park was donated to the state in 1921 by Seattle mayor and shipbuilder Robert Moran.[2] Due to poor health, Moran moved to Orcas Island and between 1906 and 1909 built his estate, naming it Rosario. Wood and stone material found on the island were used to construct the estate's houses and buildings. The former Moran estate is privately operated as Rosario Resort and Spa and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.[5] The Rosario mansion features a museum honoring Robert Moran, complete with original furnishings. The mansion's music room is home to a 1913 34-rank Aeolian pipe organ and 1900 Steinway grand piano, both of which are still played for visitors today. The Civilian Conservation Corps built many of the park's trails, roads, bridges, and buildings during the 1930s.[2] more info

The park has facilities for boating, hiking, biking, horse riding, and camping. Mount Constitution (elevation 2,409 feet (734 m)) is a focal point of the park. San Juan Island Wasington English Camp Vs Americans In The Pig War
San Juan Island Washington Is A Lasting Reminder Of What Was Called The Pig War
The San Juan Islands were in dispute between the U.S. and Great Britain called the Pig War. In Earlier treaties it was decided the border between Vancouver Isand and the U.S. mainland would be the middle of the channel. The problem was that as it turned out, there were two navigable channels suitable for shipping traffic. If you believe the treaty was referring to the Eastern channel the San Juan Islands would belong to the British. If you choose to believe the treaty was referring to the other channel to the west the San Juans would belong to the United States.
There was an incident involving a wayward trespassing pig which led to the brink of military conflict.
For over 12 years San Juan Island was occupied by both American and British forces in two camps. English Camp near the north end of the island and American Camp on the south side of the island. During the joint occupation the troops were very friendly to each other, hosting competitions, gatherings, parties, and celebrating holidays together. It was said that large amounts of alcohol were consumed at these events and the soldiers stationed there had a great time.
When the dispute was settled the party was over and the San Juan Islands were American.
