Update (July 28, 2018): Sundial Bridge
Redding’s famed Sundial Bridge escaped without damage from the explosive Carr wildfire burning in Shasta County but is covered in ash and debris. According to local media, the bridge is currently closed as workers clean up ash and debris. The Turtle Bay Exploration Park, which is connected to the bridge, closed Friday and evacuated dozens of animals. Thousands of people in Redding were ordered to evacuate as flames jumped the Sacramento River and moved into the city Thursday night. The Carr fire has so far claimed the lives of five people, including James Roberts (5) and Emily Roberts (4), and their grandmother Mary Bledsoe (70), bulldozer operator Don Ray Smith (81) and Redding Fire Department fire inspector Jeremy Stoke.
Sundial Bridge is a cantilever spar cable-stayed bridge for bicycles and pedestrians that spans the Sacramento River and forms a large sundial. It was designed by Santiago Calatrava and completed in 2004 at a cost of US$23,500,000. The bridge has become iconic for Redding and it generates millions of dollars worth of commerce and tourism each year.
The Sundial Bridge provides pedestrian access to the north and south areas of Turtle Bay Exploration Park, a complex containing environmental, art and history museums and the McConnell Arboretum and Gardens. It also forms the gateway to the Sacramento River Trail, a 35-mile-long trail completed in 2010 that extends along both sides of the river and connects the bridge to the Shasta Dam. Drift boats of fishermen are often seen passing beneath the bridge as they fish for salmon, steelhead and rainbow trout. In the distance, Mount Shasta is barely visible. Shasta Bally is visible to the West looking upstream the Sacramento.

To Learn All About The Sundial Bridge:
We went east to get some warmer weather. Redding CA can always be counted on to get hot and it has some nice sights to visit. The sundial bridge is something you need to walk over if you are in the area. Redding is right on the I5 in northern California. Be sure to park your car in the shade there or bring a windshield shade. This day also happened to be on our first wedding anniversary. It has been a great year and you can see a lot more of it on out Brazilian in 'Merica playlist. We have vlogged the whole year of Leila moving here from Brazil and the places we have gone as she gets used to living here in California.
