Local Karen Hill Tribe Village
Hey guys! There are 7 main hill tribes in Thailand, most in the high northern mountains. Millions of people mostly who were driven out of their bordering country up to 100+ years ago and were forced to make lives for themselves in the uninhabited jungle forests. We have gone to a Karen village here in Chiang Mai (1.5 hrs away) with our neighbors who go multiple times a week. Unfortunately, that footage is at the bottom of the lake.
Our friend Aitid joined us at CaveLodge with his 13 yr old daughter and we all went to visit the local Karen village near there as they were interested in seeing the similarities and differences. He preferred his village, haha, because home. To the outside eye, they appeared fairly similar. The language was the same, but he said the overall feel or culture felt a little different to him. It was really interesting to visit another hill tribe village.
We finished up the day by visiting the cave back at the Lodge and watching the birds and bats fly in and out at dusk. It was another fun day in Pai! We've cut these videos up a bit, so there will be 2 more Pai videos coming up.
Let us know if you prefer a few more, but shorter vids or if we should have just fit the whole Pai trip into one or two 20 minutes videos.

Hey, by the way! So...we are worldschoolers. Don't know what that means? Worldschooling means different things for different people, but overall and in general it means that we are teaching our kids about life hands on through experiences as we travel around the world. Our motto is We Travel, we Learn, we Love, & we Serve. And we try to do just that as we move around this beautiful planet seeing new things, making new friends, trying to leave it a little better than we found it and experiencing other cultures first hand. It's an amazing trip, this life, but of course it also has it's downs. This is still our real life with kids arguing, tears, hurts, downfalls and the like. We always try and reboot our attitudes and get back on the road with a happier attitude. It is a choice!
We are the Wallace Family and we are Clicking Refresh to Reboot our Lives one day and experience at a time. xoxo

LONG LIFE FOOD in Hunza Valley - HEAVEN ON EARTH, Pakistan | Pakistani Food Tour!
SUBSCRIBE for 2 new videos every week
T-shirts and caps:
Thank you to Ali (Pakistan Travel Market):
I want to say a massive thank you to Ali (Pakistan Travel Market): Without him, this entire trip wouldn’t have been possible.
Also, thank you to Hunza Serena Inn ( for sponsoring our stay in Hunza Valley.
The goal of today’s food tour was to uncover some of the secrets of the long life food of Hunza Valley. Especially traditionally, people were known to live very long and healthy lives - a combination of eating seasonally, lots of nuts, and apricots, and fresh mountain air - we also discovered a few dishes that must have led to long life.
But we began our day in Gilgit, and first thing at daybreak, we drove about 20 minutes outside of Gilgit to start our morning from a strategic viewpoint. There’s a confluence where three of the highest mountain ranges in the world - Himalayas (Mount Everest), Karakorams (K2), and Hindu Kush, mountains come together. It’s a magical place, and we were literally the only people there.
We then headed back to Serena Gilgit Hotel for breakfast before starting our day to Hunza Valley. The drive was spectacular from start to finish - you will literally feel your jaw dropping as you drive and you almost cannot believe the scenery will possibly get better… and it does.
Chapshoro Point - Along the Karakoram Highway from Gilgit to Hunza Valley one of the most famous foods is chapshoro, a meat filled dough pocket. It’s a great tea snack - and we’d be having a few more of these today.
Total price - 900 PKR ($6.74)
Hunza Valley - We arrived to Hunza Valley and immediately checked in to Hunza Serena Inn, with an almost unbelievable view from our patio.
Baltit Fort - We quickly hiked up to Baltit Fort, a spectacular and iconic fort within Hunza Valley and then walked down for a quick bite to eat.
Hunza Food Pavilion - Just a small little cosy restaurant, yet so inviting and so many good aromas coming out of the kitchen. We ordered chapshoro again, and daodo soup, both of which were amazing.
Total price - 630 PKR ($4.72)
Osho Maraka - Hunza Serena Inn - We then headed back to the hotel where they wanted to prepare a local Hunza Valley food lunch for us. The food was good, a little on the plain side for me, but very fresh and local ingredients.
Eagles Nest - Next we drove up one of the main mountains of Hunza Valley for the view. Although we were late for the sunset, the view was still spectacular.
Traditional Hunza Valley food - In the evening is when the real authentic Hunza Valley food and cultural learning began. We were invited (thanks to the Gilgit Baltistan tourism ministry for setting it up) to a 400 year old home for a time of music and local Hunza Valley food. The old home was beautiful, and they immediately started playing amazing local music. The food was authentic and local - lots of whole grains, walnuts and almonds, and plenty of apricot oil. One of the dishes, a tortilla like bread filled with walnut paste and apricot oil was one of the secret dishes of longevity - so I was told! Whatever the case, the food, people, and experience, was outstanding.
By this time I have to stay I was tired, cold, and ready to go back to the hotel to sleep, but they said, we need to stop at one more place.
It was completely dark, and looked abandoned.
But we stepped inside a home, and there were at least 20 people huddled in the house, waiting for us.
I was blown away and humbled.
They made us tea and a few local pancake like snacks. It was beyond special.
Thank you to everyone involved, and to the families for their amazing hospitality and kindness. Another absolutely incredible day of food and people in Pakistan.

INDOCHINA: Rainy season
Travelling across Thailand, Laos and Vietnam, became the next stage of The World without Visas project, within which, Valery Shanin travels only around the countries, visa-free for Russians.
The travel begins in Bangkok. For the most banal reason. In this city, there is the largest airport of Indochina.
The Buddhism — the state religion of Thailand. The king is considered the head of all Thai Buddhists. And the most esteemed Buddhist relic — The Emerald Buddha - is stored in the territory of the Royal palace in the monastery of Wat Phrakeo. The entrance is opened for tourists. It is only necessary to observe a dress code — no shorts, t-shirts without sleeves and short skirts are allowed. Shoulders and knees should be covered.
Chao Phraya is a fine alternative to the streets of Bangkok, which are eternally loaded with busy transport. Down the river, river trams, tourist vessels, leisure boats and barges, scurry about.
Lopburi is called: The city of monkeys. Macaques occupy the ruins of Prang Sam Yot.
In the city of Phitsanulok, on the River Nan, is Wat Phra Si Ratana Mahathat, or simply Wat Yai. It houses a bronze Buddha statue - Buddha Chinnarat.
Chiang Mai — the capital of Northern Thailand, the city of monasteries and temples.
Buddha Phra Singh - a Buddhist relic of Thailand, the second in importance. It is always crowded in this temple. Pilgrims with flowers and offerings come here.
Luang Prabang was the capital of the kingdom of the same name.
After the victory of socialism, and the overthrow of the monarchy, the Royal Palace built by the French, was requisitioned. The National Museum was later opened in it.
The Tad Se Warerfall, is not a simple waterfall — it is one of many, a complex system of cascades and a channel. And all of that is overgrown with forest.
The Hoan Kyem Lake — the spiritual center of Hanoi. An ancient legend says that, once, a certain Le Loi was trying to fish here, and saw a huge turtle passing by, with a sword lying on its shell.
The majority of Vietnamese consider themselves Buddhists. But Buddhism here, is special. It is a mix of the classical Buddhism of Mahajana, with the cult of ancestors, Taoism and Confucianism.
Travelling across Indochina comes to an end, in the same place where it began, three weeks ago, in Bangkok.

-- BANGKOK --
In a day, what you can do and where you can go in Bangkok, let's check my footage out!
Let's start the day with BREAKFAST! We roamed around Aree and found Jub Jub Kao Man Kai. They have 4 chickens for you to order, Classic Chicken, Fried Chicken, Spicy Chicken, and Teriyaki Chicken!! Plus, sometimes you need a boost up for the day, we stoped by Casa Lapin - Aree for morning tea.
After breakfast vibe we started taking BTS from Aree to Siam and walked to Jim Thompson House through new design of Siam Discovery Skywalk. The newbie creative and innovative construction in the central of Bangkok downtown has been ready to use to connect urban life between Siam Discovery, MBK, BACC and BTS National Stadium. Just only a short walk we arrived at Jim Thompson House Museum. We could surprisingly smell Thainess and Thai Silk!!
Adult Ticket is 150 THB (Guide included). it is very interesting and fun taking a tour in Jim's house and got some knowledge from his history as well. They provide you many languages (Thai, English, French, Japanese, Mandarin, etc.).
Fun facts:
-- Japanese tour will specially focus on textile history.
-- Chinese tour is for all Jim's collection stuff in his house.
-- English, Americans always interested in Jim's profile and history as such.
-- THAI IS UP FOR ANYTHING! lol
Then we moved to another side of the river!. BTS to Sapan Taksin and then take an express boat to Wat Arun Pier (Orange Flag Boat 15 THB). Post-renovated Wat Arun looks more than as gorgeous as It was!
Lunch at Baan Tha Tien, a Thai restaurant in this area. Nam Prik Aong + Chicken Pa Nang + Fresh coconuts = THE BEST!
Not too far from where we had lunch, Museum Siam is my number one museum in all time. Why? I never felt I came here as a museum nerd, though this place is my fun and valuable place to visit. I never get bored staying here all day and to discover where our Thainess comes from and play with all modern innovative learning stuff they provided. There are a big variety of learning and knowledge transferring methods in the exhibition. I bet it would be your worth experience visiting this place!
Then we walked a bit to Wat Pho to see the big Reclining Buddha then headed to roam around China by Tuk Tuk (BARGAINING SKILL IS NEEDED! We made it at 100 THB, not bad but not good lol)
Walking from Yaowarat Road to Soi Nana deserves a good drink at Tep Bar, a Thai vibe bar kind of thing because we heard traditional Thai live music from outside and it's really attractive! We ordered their Thai signature drinks which are Hidden Agenda and Songkran. Little sip with live music is the SEXIEST!
Thank you and hope you like my BKK in one day :-)
