LONDON FOOD, SANDWICH, BBQ, PAELLA, SCALLOPS, MUSSELS, CHEESE, Borough Market is a wholesale and retail food market in Southwark, London, England. It is one of the largest and oldest food markets in London,[1][2] with a market on the site dating back to at least the 12th century. The present buildings were built in the 1850s, and today the market mainly sells speciality foods to the general public. The present market, located on Southwark Street and Borough High Street just south of Southwark Cathedral on the southern end of London Bridge, is a successor to one that originally adjoined the end of London Bridge. It was first mentioned in 1276, although the market itself claims to have existed since 1014 and probably much earlier[3] and was subsequently moved south of St Margaret's church on the High Street.[4] The City of London received a royal charter from Edward VI in 1550 to control all markets in Southwark (see Guildable Manor), which was confirmed by Charles II in 1671. However, the market caused such traffic congestion that, in 1754, it was abolished by an Act of Parliament.[5][6]
The Act allowed for the local parishioners to set up another market on a new site, and in 1756, it began again on a 4.5-acre (18,000 m²) site in Rochester Yard.[5][6] During the 19th century, it became one of London's most important food markets due to its strategic position near the riverside wharves of the Pool of London.[5]
The retail market operates on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Fridays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The wholesale market operates on all weekday mornings from 2 a.m. to 8 a.m. The present-day market mainly sells speciality foods to the general public. However, in the 20th century, it was essentially a wholesale market, selling produce in quantity to greengrocers. It was the main supplier, along with Covent Garden, of fruits and vegetables to retail greengrocers' shops. Amongst the notable businesses trading in the market were Vitacress, Lee Brothers (potato merchants whose signage can still be seen in the market), Manny Sugarman, AW Bourne and Eddy Robbins. JO Sims, the main importer for South African citrus fruit (Outspan), were also located in the market.
Vegetable stall
Stallholders come to trade at the market from different parts of the UK, and traditional European products are also imported and sold. Amongst the produce on sale are fresh fruit and vegetables, cheese, meat, game, baked bread and pastries.
The market is a charitable trust administered by a board of volunteer trustees, who have to live in the area.[10]
Borough Market and the surrounding streets have been used as a film location for such features as Bridget Jones's Diary (2001), Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels (1998) and Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (2004).[11] More recently some scenes in The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus (2009) were shot there.[12] As reported by the London Evening Standard, the market is available to hire for private events. From 1860, the railway operating companies desired to extend services from London Bridge station into new stations at Cannon Street and Blackfriars in the City and link to the West End at Charing Cross Station. This required a viaduct, but legally, it was impossible by the 1756 Borough Market Act for the Trustees to alienate their property. The compromise was that only a flying leasehold was given to the railway company for the permanent way, but only for as long as a railway operates on it. The Market continues to trade underneath the arches of the viaduct. Each time there is a railway expansion requiring widening of the viaduct, the Trustees receive a full compensation payment. The last major such expansion was the 1901 extended bridge widening; the 21st-century works programme will also make its contribution. These windfalls have assisted in the finances of the market without any loss of amenity to it. A new viaduct was erected above the market and a bridge across Borough High Street completed in 2014.

JURASSIC COAST | Exploring England (Episode. 1)
If you want historical rock formations, beaches for miles and some scenic walks (with the fraction of the price of a trip to Bali) then head to the SOUTH COAST OF ENGLAND!!
As part of an EXPLORING ENGLAND series I am creating on my channel, I am visiting places across England to see if they're really worth your hard earned cash and precious time!
So I am kicking off with a visit to the JURASSIC COAST! It is down as one of the best spots to visit in England and I can definitely see why! It's formed of three main natural attractions - Durdle Door, Lulworth Cove and the Stairhole; which are all beautiful and unique. We went in January (off-peak season) which proved to be a great idea as we had the place almost all to ourselves! But bring some layers as the coastal winds can be a bit cold even on a lovely clear day.
GETTING TO THE COAST
We took a straight train from London Waterloo to Wool Station. The train was fast, although stopping at many stations in between. It took around 2.5 hours to get to Wool station and upon arrival the next bus was in 50 minutes!? We tried calling an Uber and local taxi companies with no success. We realised that the transport system here is definitely not as frequent or accessible as in London. But, thankfully a very helpful taxi lady pulled up and offered us a ride. The drive was about 7-10 minutes and cost us £15 (there is parking options for people driving to the Jurassic coast). She dropped us off at the Lulworth Cove entrance and we stopped to have a small bite to eat at the cafe opposite the visitor centre. The cafe was pleasant and the cashier was nice and talkative.
LULWORTH COVE and STAIRHOLE
After our break we made our way upwards to the left to visit the Stair Hole and Lulworth cove. We spent about an hour at the Stairhole taking pictures of the rock formations, trying to get a good selfie and figuring out if we could make it down to the rocky beach (we didn't find a way down). After spending so much time at the Stair Hole, we decided to see the Lulworth cove from the top of the hill but not make our way down to the Cove. But, if you have time then I would definitely recommend visiting the Cove. It is very close to the Stair Hole - around a 5 -10 minute walk down a sloping path.
DURDLE DOOR
We made our way to the right of the entrance following a path up to a seemingly easy hill to climb... But do not be fooled! Either I'm terribly unfit or this hill is a workout in itself! But the views made it all worth while. Once we got over the hill, we were greeted with more stunning views of rolling hills and the shore below. The walk towards Durdle Door was mostly a pleasant flat trail with some small inclines and descents. Just before arriving at Durdle Door there were really nice views down on to the shore line and some Cove like beaches with some more gorgeous rock formations. On arrival at Durdle Door, we were stunned at the wonderful views of the infamous limestone arch, crashing waves and beautiful coastline. We decided to take the steps down to the pebbled beach and explore the length of the coast. I looked for small fossils and bones but I had no luck in finding anything! Once we explored the Beach we made our way back up the stairs and walked along the hills. Again, providing great views of the whole area. But, I was defeated by a huge hill that I just couldn't muster the energy to climb. Max continued up without me and had a peep over the other side to see if it was worth the journey. There were more rolling hills and sea views but nothing that really pushed me to continue up that monster hill. So it was time to head back to the start. We had worked up quite an appetite so we went to a restaurant just opposite the entrance. The food was tasty and the service was good. We had a nice candle lit table by the window. After our meal we called the taxi lady to get a lift back to the station. While we were waiting for her we had a sneaky second peak of the view from the Stair Hole and it did not disappoint! It was a wonderful sight and I wish we could have stayed a bit longer but the trains weren't that frequent so we had to leave in time for the next one. The taxi lady brought us back to Wool station in good time. The train arrived perfectly on time and was also fast back to London.
FINAL THOUGHTS
It was a lovely day out that I would recommend to anyone willing to face the monster hill haha. The only negative was the price of the train tickets. They were approx. £75 each! A bit on the expensive side if you ask me. But, I guess it was worth it in the end.
