Dar and Allen visit the famed pepper fields of Kampot, Cambodia, to see how pepper is traditionally grown and cook a quick meal. Kampot Pepper is recognized by many in the culinary world as the best a kitchen can have. In this segment, Allen cooks an easy meal that is sure please your family and is easy to cook at home.
Ingredients:
Pasta of your choice (linguini is perfect), 500g
Heavy Cream (full fat), 500ml (~2 cups)
Asian shallots, 2 small (1 large)
Limes, 1 small (1/2 large)
Grape tomatoes, one handful
Basil (spicy/Thai), one sprig
Kampot Black Pepper
Parmigiano-Reggiano Cheese
Salt (here we use Himalayan pink)
Olive Oil

Secret Lake Kampot - Cambodia.....Awesome Adventure!
Come with me as I take a leap of faith to go find The secret Lake of Kampot. I am in the beautiful country of Cambodia, and am advised to go find this secret lake. I put on a backpack, and searched for SECRET LAKE on google maps. I wanted an adventure, and certainly got one. I could have ridden right over the border of Vietnam without even knowing, but instead took a risk and had a most awesome adventure. I saw Khmer rural living, met many friendly people, and saw many amazing things that I would never have got to experience....if I did not set out on the adventure to find - The Secret Lake of Kampot Cambodia. Less than 100 miles away from Cambodia's capital city, Phnom Penh. Magical Cambodia...you did not disappoint.
I had some amazing days up North too, in Siem Reap, and had many adventures, from the stunning Angkor Wat to the vibrant city nightlife, but Secret lake was a special day I will cherish forever- true rural living and the warm loving of the Khmer people.

The town was built as a resort by colonial French settlers to offer an escape from the heat, humidity and general insalubrity of Phnom Penh. Nine hundred lives were lost in nine months during the construction of the resort in this remote mountain location. The centrepiece of the resort was the grand Bokor Palace Hotel (which has never been a casino), complemented by shops, a post office (now demolished), a church and the Royal Apartments. It is also an important cultural site, showing how the colonial settlers spent their free time. Bokor Hill was abandoned first by the French in late 1940s, during the First Indochina War, because of local insurrections guided by the Khmer Issarak, and then for good in 1972, as Khmer Rouge took over the area. During the Vietnamese invasion in 1979, Khmer Rouge entrenched themselves and held on tightly for months. In the early 1990s Bokor Hill was still one of the last strongholds of Khmer Rouge. It's only in the 60's, for the reopening of the Cité du Bokor, that a casino has been established in the new hotels near the lake
Ever more visitors are being seduced, gently, by the charming riverside town of Kampot, with its relaxed atmosphere and one of Cambodia’s finest, if dilapidated, ensembles of French colonial architecture. Eclipsed as a port when Sihanoukville was founded in 1959, Kampot makes an excellent base for exploring Bokor National Park and the verdant coast east towards Vietnam, including Kep and several superb cave-temples.

Since that time, many other filmmakers and arts groups have followed suit in utilizing the Royal for their activities, thus providing an even greater boost to the local Kampot art and culture scene!

Bokor Mountain Kampot Cambodia
Preah Monivong National Park known as Bokor National Park located in Teuk Chhou District, Kampot province. It is 1,075-metre high above sea level and about 11 kilometres from kampot town to the foot of the mountain and 32 kilometres from the foot to the cloudy peak. Bokor Mountain was found by the French in 1917 and developed into a resort in 1921. It was the famous summer escape for the French elites and royal family.
Bokor National Park is one of Cambodia's most beautiful and most mystical national parks. It is popular for its cool mountain climate and remains a year-round favourite amongst locals and foreigners. It offers a breathtaking view from the hill top overlooking Cambodian coastal line and many beautiful offshore islands. The park consists of misty tropical jungles sprawling over mountains teeming with wildlife, fresh mountains streams and waterfalls. Bokor National Park is a place for ride, scenery, cool mountain air, adventure, and relaxation.
