The River Foss
The River Foss is an improved river in North Yorkshire, England, and a tributary of the River Ouse. It rises in the Foss Crooks woods near Oulston reservoir close to the village of Yearsley and runs south through the Vale of York to the Ouse. The name most likely comes from the Latin word Fossa, meaning ditch and is mentioned in the Domesday Book.
In 1069 William the Conqueror dammed the River Foss just south of York Castle, close to its confluence with the Ouse, to create a moat around the castle. This caused the river to flood further upstream in what is now the Hungate and Layerthorpe areas, forming a large lake that was known as the King's Pool or the King's Fish Pond and which provided fish for the markets. It was approximately 100 acres in size and fishing was only allowed by licence, except for the King's Men. The King's Pool was an integral part of the city's inner defences during the Middle Ages as the marsh was virtually impassable. This explains why there is no city wall between Layerthorpe Postern and the Red Tower.
In the 17th century, the King's Pool and the Foss were in a state of decline because silt from upriver collected in the Pool, and not enough water came down to move it on, despite the main channel of the River Foss having been deepened in 1608. Eventually the lake was too shallow to remain viable as a defence of the city. In 1644 the lake was shallow enough for Parliamentarian forces under Sir Thomas Fairfax to consider crossing it on foot as a way of breaking the Siege of York during the English Civil War.
In 1727 an order was placed upon Arthur Ingram, 6th Viscount of Irvine to scour the River Foss from the Castle Mills to Foss Bridge, making it eight yards wide at the top and four yards at the bottom, and, in 1731 the Little Foss, an extension to enclose the Castle, was also drained. In the 18th century, the water was so low that marshy islands were created (hence the area's modern name of Foss Islands). Citizens used the river as a rubbish tip which became a health hazard. Acts of Parliament in 1793 and 1801 were enacted to make the Foss navigable and they effectively saw the end of the King's Pool. The Foss Navigation Company canalised the river from 1778, to make it navigable as far as Sheriff Hutton.
Remains of Roman jetties, wharves and warehouses have been found by excavations and building works on the banks of the Foss, suggesting that water-borne transport and trade was important from early in the history of the city

9/11~September 11th 2001-Attack on the World || Trade Center
September 11, 2001 Attack on the World Trade Center, let us not forget, and my condolences to the Heros & Victoms of 911. May the victoms and Heros RIP
May this sinister act never be repeated to our Country Again!
The September 11 attacks resulted in 2,996 immediate (attack time) deaths: 2,977 victims and the 19 hijackers. A total of 372 foreign nationals (excluding the 19 perpetrators) perished in the attacks, representing just over 12% of the total. The immediate deaths include 246 victims on the four planes (from which there were no survivors), 2,606 in New York City in the World Trade Center and on the ground, and 125 at the Pentagon. About 292 people were killed at street level by burning debris and falling bodies of those who had jumped or fallen from the World Trade Center's windows.
BETWEEN THE TOWERS
It was probably one of the most inspired events ever devised - the Daily Mail Transatlantic Air Race between London's Post Office Tower and the Empire State Building in New York. ® This special Movietone edition features a survey of the International entry, competing for 21 prizes amounted to £60,000. From Tina the Chimp to the record breaking Jet Pilots of the Navy and RAF, from Executive Jet businessmen to Balloonists and Solo Flyers, the race presented a cross-section of personal and team endeavour that's never been seen on such a scale before. ® With the added attraction of the QEII's Maiden Voyage to New York, this tremendous week was certainly an outstanding Prestige occasion for Britain, at a time when prestige is notably absent. ® The achievement of Alcock and Brown, the first to cross the Atlantic non-stop, has been commemorated, on this fiftieth anniversary, in a way those pioneer aviators could never have dreamed of!

CLIFFORD'S TOWER, YORK
Clifford’s Tower a famous landmark in York. It is the largest remaining part of York Castle, once the centre of government for the north of England. The 11th-century timber tower on top of the earth mound was burned down in 1190, after York’s Jewish community, some 150 strong, was besieged here by a mob and committed mass suicide. The present 13th-century stone tower was probably used as a treasury and later as a prison.

St Pancras Clock Tower Guest Suite, London, United Kingdom
The flat is in the clock tower above St Pancras International Station. This guest suite looks out over Kings Cross Station. The flat has two double bedrooms, the other one being used by the owner or by other guests. This suite has all its own facilities not shared with others including in addition to the bed, a living area, a small kitchen/dining area and its own bathroom and shower.
As the flat is on the 4th and 5th floors and fully equipped with secondary glazing, the road and railway noise is very low and almost nobody notices it but I would advise delicate sleepers to be aware of it before booking.
The suite is available for short or long-term letting and ideally suits couples on holiday in London for a few days or a week.
There is additional bedding available by prior arrangement if one or two others want to stay but this needs to be discussed with the owner at the time of booking. Clean towels are provided as standard as are soap/shampoo.
This listing is very heavily booked but it may be worth looking on my other listing (ST PANCRAS CLOCK TOWER MASTER SUITE) which is for the master bedroom which I let out when I am not using it. The main difference is that you would then use the main kitchen. Or contact me with an enquiry and I will let you know.
Little things are provided in the flat, such as a hairdryer, international plug adaptors and umbrellas. Let me know if you need London Oyster cards for public transport (electronic cards for you to use and top up) or a UK SIM loaded cellphone.
The clock tower was designed by Sir George Gilbert Scott like an Italian bell tower but never held bells. The clock never has and does not ring. The clock tower's height lends itself to some extraordinary events. See YouTube for a video of an aerialist on a rope (Gisele Edwards). This listing is for a suite best described as an apartment within an apartment. It is for a bedroom with double bed, en suite bathroom, en suite kitchen and sofa and table and TV. There is central hi-fi throughout the house and a hifi jack in a wall in the room.
If there are more than 2 of you or you want a different bed arrangement from a double bed (eg extra mattresses) please discuss this in advance with me before booking.
Please be aware that you will be sharing the flat with the owner or with other guests. The photographs also show the Tower Room. Occasionally the flat is used for day functions, evening pop-up restaurants or photo shoots but I shall try to inform you of any such appointments. Both bedrooms have en suite bathrooms and lockable doors for security. The main clocktower room is upstairs in the flat and if it is not being used you are welcome to pass time in it, subject to liaising if there are other people staying in the flat. This is a great building to stay in. Please do respect the fact that the building is home to many other residents and be careful not to disturb them if you are taking photographs in the common areas.

The Princes in the Tower - episode 1 part 2
part 3
The mystery surrounding the suspicious disappearance of the boy King Edward V and his younger brother Richard has been the cause of speculation and fascination for over five centuries.
Eight years after they were presumed to have been murdered by their treacherous uncle, a young man appeared and told an astonished world that he was Richard, the younger of the two Princes. He had survived the attempt on his life and had come to claim his rightful place on the throne of England.
Was he genuine and could he reveal what really happened in the Tower all those years ago? Or was he a brilliant imposter, trained to carry out one of the most audacious cons imaginable?
This gripping drama is an account of the final interrogation of a man who sought to change the course of British history and whose identity has remained a mystery to this day.
Why Remember? WWI centenary and public commemoration at the Tower of London
The major art installation Blood Swept Lands and Seas of Red at the Tower of London marked one hundred years since the first full day of Britain's involvement in the First World War.
In the run up to the opening of the installation, Historic Royal Palace’s Public Engagement teams worked with researchers to think through some of the issues associated with remembrance in the context of the First World War centenary.
This work became the Why Remember? programme which accompanied 'Blood Swept Lands….' It centred on three questions designed to encourage dialogue about how and why we remember:
Why should we remember the war?
Why are 100 years so significant?
How do you want to remember?
This film, released at the close of the centenary, and featuring the 'Beyond the Deepening Shadow' installation, encourages people to engage once again with those questions. We hope it will inform our future conversations about commemoration and remembrance.
Over the last 5 years the Why Remember? programme has continued to explore those questions, and our academic partners have published research on these themes.

The Woman on the Beast
1And there came one of the seven angels which had the seven vials, and talked with me, saying unto me, Come hither; I will shew unto thee the judgment of the great whore that sitteth upon many waters: 2With whom the kings of the earth have committed fornication, and the inhabitants of the earth have been made drunk with the wine of her fornication. 3So he carried me away in the spirit into the wilderness: and I saw a woman sit upon a scarlet coloured beast, full of names of blasphemy, having seven heads and ten horns. 4And the woman was arrayed in purple and scarlet colour, and decked with gold and precious stones and pearls, having a golden cup in her hand full of abominations and filthiness of her fornication: 5And upon her forehead was a name written, MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH. 6And I saw the woman drunken with the blood of the saints, and with the blood of the martyrs of Jesus: and when I saw her, I wondered with great admiration.
The Mystery Explained
7And the angel said unto me, Wherefore didst thou marvel? I will tell thee the mystery of the woman, and of the beast that carrieth her, which hath the seven heads and ten horns.
8The beast that thou sawest was, and is not; and shall ascend out of the bottomless pit, and go into perdition: and they that dwell on the earth shall wonder, whose names were not written in the book of life from the foundation of the world, when they behold the beast that was, and is not, and yet is. 9And here is the mind which hath wisdom. The seven heads are seven mountains, on which the woman sitteth. 10And there are seven kings: five are fallen, and one is, and the other is not yet come; and when he cometh, he must continue a short space. 11And the beast that was, and is not, even he is the eighth, and is of the seven, and goeth into perdition. 12And the ten horns which thou sawest are ten kings, which have received no kingdom as yet; but receive power as kings one hour with the beast. 13These have one mind, and shall give their power and strength unto the beast.
The Victory of the Lamb
14These shall make war with the Lamb, and the Lamb shall overcome them: for he is Lord of lords, and King of kings: and they that are with him are called, and chosen, and faithful.
15And he saith unto me, The waters which thou sawest, where the whore sitteth, are peoples, and multitudes, and nations, and tongues. 16And the ten horns which thou sawest upon the beast, these shall hate the whore, and shall make her desolate and naked, and shall eat her flesh, and burn her with fire. 17For God hath put in their hearts to fulfil his will, and to agree, and give their kingdom unto the beast, until the words of God shall be fulfilled. 18And the woman which thou sawest is that great city, which reigneth over the kings of the earth.
Jesus Christ is LORD and Savior the Son of God raised from the dead.
All Glory to God.
Hallelujah.
