39th G8 Summit Photographs at Lough Erne Resort Hotel
We were down at the wonderful Lough Erne Resort Hotel just outside Enniskillen Co Fermanagh for two nights. We had never stayed previously but we had heard plenty of good reports. The reports were not wrong! We had a fantastic mini break.
Yet another remarkable Lough Erne Resort Hotel accolade is that it was chosen to host the 39th G 8 Summit. 10 of the top people running the world met up on 17–18 June 2013 for a series of round table discussions. The hotel has marked this auspicious occasion by a placing groups of photographs that 'capture the moment', around various hotel locations.
G8 leaders present- Herman Van Rompuy, Enrico Letta, Stephen Harper, François Hollande, Barack Obama, David Cameron, Vladimir Putin, Angela Merkel, José Manuel Barroso and Shinzō Abe.
G8 Summit at Lough Erne 17–18 June 2013
'Lough Erne Resort hosted what Prime Minister Cameron states as “one of the most successful and peaceful summits in recent memory”on 17th& 18th June 2013 when the world's leaders and their delegations met for bilateral negotiations on tax, trade and transparency. The Resort, following months of visits from Downing Street staff, received confirmation from Prime Minister Cameron in November 2012 that they would be the host venue for the event and at that point began to prepare for Northern Ireland’s most important visitors in 2013. The decision to use Lough Erne Resort was based on the secure location, which allowed the leaders to conduct their negotiations in a private setting against a stunning backdrop. The leaders stayed at the resort's Lodges where they each had the privacy required while their relevant delegations stayed in the hotel. The G8 Summit's bilateral negotiations took place primarily in the Loughside Lodge which was transformed to suit the Summit's requirements while meetings also took place in the Gordon Wilson Library.
Ferghal Purcell, General Manager at Lough Erne Resort states: “Lough Erne was really an ideal location - it was only ever a two minute walk of private golf road to their lodgings. They were in splendid isolation. On any one day, having any one of the world leaders visit would have been a serious task. The fact that they were all here together almost made it easier. We had to ensure a high standard of care and professionalism for all delegates and that everyone was treated equally.” On the world leaders' visit to Lough Erne Resort and the use of the facilities at the resort such as The Thai Spa, gym and two stunning golf courses, Mr Purcell says: “These guys were here work, and work they did, from morning to night. Other than Prime Minister Cameron taking a dip in the Lough one morning, they simply didn’t have time to enjoy a Thai massage or a round of golf, although we would be delighted to welcome them back at any time for a more leisurely visit.”
Overall, the Lough Erne Summit was considered a success for Prime Minister Cameron as well as the local region, “Peak season began sooner and lasted longer because of the G8, not just here at Lough Erne Resort, but for all of us hoteliers in the Fermanagh area. At Lough Erne Resort, we have shown a tangible benefit which will have a knock-on effect. We have a wonderful property, it's in great shape, and we had a great two years. Our challenge now is to grow and build on the success of the G8.”
'The 39th G8 summit was held on 17–18 June 2013, at the Lough Erne Resort, a five-star hotel and golf resort on the shore of Lough Erne in County Fermanagh, Northern Ireland, United Kingdom. It was the sixth G8 summit to be held in the United Kingdom and the first to be held in Northern Ireland. The earlier G8 summits hosted by the United Kingdom were held in London (1977, 1984, 1991), Birmingham (1998) and Gleneagles (2005).
The official theme of the summit was tax evasion and transparency. However, the Syrian civil war dominated the discussions. A seven-point plan on Syria was agreed after much debate. Other agreements included a way to automate the sharing of tax information, new rules for mining companies, and a pledge to end payments for kidnap victim releases. The United States and the European Union agreed to begin talks towards a broad trade agreement.'

Waterloo (1970) 1080p [Subtitles: ENG, FRA, ESP, PRT, DEU, DUT, TUR]
There is no official HD/BluRay release of Waterloo available on any market. This has been upscaled from DVD with a touch of sharpening and contrast enhancement to bring out some of the details, since the original is very soft and hazy. Yes, there is some noise and minor artifacts, this can't be helped. This is for your convenience and to enjoy an excellent film. Nitpickers will be ignored.
If you would prefer to see an unenhanced version, please try my Unlisted copy, in 1080p but without any sharpening/contrast tweaks, here:

The following link is to a PDF scan of the Official 34-page Waterloo souvenir magazine released in 1970. It contains many unique photographs from the film that may have been cut (such as Wellington meeting Blücher) and from the making of the film. Lots of historical background and trivia for fans of the film and the Napoleonic Wars. I recommend you download the PDF and view it in Adobe Reader (8.0 or higher) in Two page view (also check Show cover in two page view) to see wide photos properly. Link: [Filesize: 11.0 MB]
A novelised version based on the screenplay is available, for anyone who enjoys studying the Napoleonic Era. Go to Amazon and search for Waterloo, Frederick E. Smith which was published by Pan Books in 1970. It can be bought for as little as £0.01 second-hand.
For anyone serious about studying the battle, there are a great number of books on Napoleon's 1815 Hundred Days campaign. The Waterloo Companion by Mark Adkin is a good place to start, but there are many more, covering various aspects of the battle.
If you are new to learning about Napoleon, Waterloo was his last battle. Do take the chance to learn about the Napoleonic Wars and the French Revolution. The Peninsular War, the 1812 Invasion of Russia, the Battle of Trafalgar, and Napoleon's career campaigning in Egypt, Italy, Austria, Prussia, etc, paint a colourful picture of a long and engaging period of European history. Waterloo was just the bloody end to an era that shaped the future of Europe.

Derby Property For Sale - Ivy Bank House, Wheatcroft, Malock, DE4 5GU

Ivy Bank House, Wheatcroft, Malock, DE4 5GU
Wheatcroft is one of Derbyshire's hidden gems! The owner first came across it when horse riding one day and was struck by what a tranquil, peaceful spot it was; an idylic hideaway straight out of a long forgotten era!
Notwithstanding its 'secret' position, Wheatcroft is also an ideal spot for reaching the M1/A38 network for easy access to towns and cities and to the high speed rail service to London and quick and easy access to nearby Matlock and Chesterfield.
Ivy Bank House stands in one of the most commanding positions in the hamlet, facing South, warming its mellow stonework in a sunny spot with magnificent panoramic views against a backdrop of greenery and mature, beautiful gardens.
Needless to say the owners fell in love with it.
The house charmed them with its romantic origins; built for a couple on their marriage in 1654, according to the date stone and it has proved to be a comfortable and welcoming home over the 9 years they have lived here, painstakingly and lovingly restoring and renovating the property so that it will be a well loved home for another 300 years!
They have added their own upgrades such as a Rayburn cooking range/CH boiler, a Clearview logburner, a spa system bath, a full range of fitted wardrobes in two bedrooms and a beautiful oak wooden floor as well as preserving the character and historic features already there such as the oak beams and 17th Century fireplaces.
The old meadow and orchards have been an ideal home for the owner's chickens and sheep and a wonderful adventure playground for their grandchildren and a lovely, private family pic-nic spot with extensive views over five counties.
Since renovating the barn and discovering a mediaeval cruck frame, many other people have enjoyed the peace and tranquility of Ivy Bank House as The Cruck Barn has been turned into a successful holiday accommodation business and a short stay in the 5* equivalent accommodation has recharged and delighted hundreds of guests.
There are lovely country walks from the gate and nature regularly comes to the door, with owls hunting over the surrounding fields at dusk and all manner of birds visiting the bird tables.
The tranquility and privacy of the beautiful grounds is restful after a busy day but the owners have also enjoyed some wonderful garden parties and barbecues with a small marquee on the lawn. All in all it has proved to be everything they could have wished for and a 'home'in every sense of the word, a calm and restful place to live amongst a friendly community and a wonderful place to come back to at the end of a day.
David Cameron Reveals Barack Obama Calls Him 'Bro'
David Cameron says his relationship with President Barack Obama is so close that the Commander in Chief calls him bro. The admission came in an interview with the Mail on Sunday when the Prime Minister was asked about his relationship with Washington. In December 2013, they snapped a selfie at the funeral of Nelson Mandela, in March 2012 they went to a basketball game together and in May 2011 they teamed up for a game of ping pong where they were beaten by a couple of 16-year-olds during Obama's state visit to Britain.
