We were in Iași. This city is the most important political, economic and cultural center of the province of Moldavia as well as one of the oldest cities in Romania. Located in the northeastern part of the country, Iasi was for many centuries the crossing point of the most important commercial routes linking Poland, Hungary, Russia and Constantinople.
Deeply rooted in history, Iasi has been the main center of Moldavian culture since 1408. The city prides itself with publishing the first Romanian newspaper and establishing the first Romanian university. Today, Iasi is home to five universities.

Iași, City in Romania
Iași is a university city in eastern Romania, near the border with Moldova. In the center is the huge St. Paraschiva Metropolitan Cathedral, a 19th-century Orthodox church built in Italian Renaissance style. Nearby, the Three Hierarchs Monastery has an exterior decorated with delicate, Moorish-style stone carvings. Backed by Palas Park’s manicured gardens, the Palace of Culture is a vast neo-Gothic building.

Iași is one of the largest cities and municipalities in Romania. Located in the Moldavia region, Iași has traditionally been one of the leading centres of Romanian social, cultural, academic and artistic life. Xmas lights in the city (Iasi, Romania)
Tonight the Christmas lights were in full display downtown and I thought I give them exactly what they deserve :) a hyper-lapse. Looking awkward when I did it, but it worth it. Using the GoPro Hero 8 Black and the Shorty, both in my hand.

Romania is without a doubt one of my top favorite countries. It was something I realized the moment I left the country to my next country. There is something about the culture, tradition, and spirit of this nation that has my heart. I spend about 2 and a half weeks on a self guided tour around Romania exploring many different cities including a pitstop in Chisinau Moldova. Here is how it went.
From the Ruse border crossing in Bulgaria, I arrived by cab to Bucharest to some really gloomy weather. Out of the whole trip, this experience was one of the most miserable, with tons of rain, overcast, and some winds. As for couchsurfing, my hosts couldn't provide me a key which made me walk around the city for 10 hours. Although It was a rough experience, I did find the city to be beautiful. At my hosts home, I enjoyed some local wine and homemade Romanian cuisine.
First time using Blablacar was from Bucharest to Constanta for only 29 Lei opposed to 50 Lei. Upon arrival, I was greeting by my awesome host from Spain and welcomed me into his apartment with his two other French mates. Together we roamed around Constanta on an unexpected mission to seek out abandoned buildings and structures. We managed to creep into an abandoned Synagogue, apartment building, as well as the imfamous Casino built in 1910.
On two other days, I walked around the Black church and enjoyed some peace and quiet on the beach nearby taking in the sound of the Black sea and taking in the fact that I've been traveling for nearly 2 months.
After a long overnight bus, I made my way to Chisinau Moldova, staying at a cheap hostel near the center. After resting for a bit, I had a delicious meal, walked around the city center, walked to the Circul din Chisinau, an abandoned soviet building, and enjoyed a sunset over the Valea Morilor park. Later in the evening, I enjoyed a movie with some Bucuria chocolate and some cheap Moldovan wine. Fresh in the morning, I caught yet another Blablacar back into Iasi Romania where I spend another day walking around the beautiful city until my host got off work. With her, I enjoyed some Moldovan wine I bought across the border and had some more delicious cuisine.
This wraps up the first half of my journey and only prepares me for an incredible continued voyage across more of Romania as well as the rest of the Balkans. :) Noroc

In giving this award the jury took many factors into consideration. The solutions brought about were an obvious consequence of thorough research and studies, resulting in a monument gloriously reinstated to its former beauty and grandeur. The functionality now presents a suitable and educational outcome, enhancing the cultural and touristic value of the area and the whole region. At the same time, the project allows the rhythm and rules of monastic life to proceed at its traditional pace. It is an example of a sustainable strategic development program.
