Night Thai Market in Kampot city, Cambodia, 2018
At the end of March 2018, Kampot city, Cambodia, was visited by a large mooving market with a lot of Thai and Cambodian goods for sale. They have everything here: food, jewelry, clothing, household items, appliances, mattresses, pillows, shoes - almost anything you can wish for, and everything is very high quality and fresh.

CAMBODIA: Travel Vlog with Grandpa (siem reap, battambang, kampot, phnom penh) | Brittnissx3
this is the story of grandpa ????????and brittniss ????????during their trip to cambodia ????????in this video we visited siem reap, battambang, kampot, bokor mountain, krong kep, and phnom penh. we traveled like a local and got to see so many beautiful sites around cambodia. travel with your grandparents kids. you might learn something ????
----------------------------------------------------------------------
THE STORY
This trip is one of many stories
how a child visited the literal motherland
how friends have reunited after 10 years
how the physical dispersement of family will never keep them apart
how strangers were welcomed to a family they’ve never met
how organized chaos constantly flood the streets
i’m here to tell you of the story of a grandfather and granddaughter who took their first trip together
one of the biggest regrets I used to have was not traveling with some of my grandparents. I made it a life goal to make this happen. It all began with a longstanding promise to visit Cambodia and confirming that the trip was happening in 2018. I brought this up to my grandpa and he toyed with the idea. It wasn’t until a month later that he confirmed his accompaniment.
And, so, it was planned November 2018 was our trip to Cambodia.
Now my grandpa is not exactly a young chap. 82 to be exact at the time we went on the trip. But he kept up like a man in his youth. We visited the temples in sien reap.
Angkor Archaeological Park is by far larger than anyone could have anticipated. You can easily spend a couple days taking in the time to appreciate each and every location.
Ate noodles almost every day. We tried delicacies I didn’t expect him to like. (frog legs, fish paste - prohok). We ate seafood directly from the pier. He outdrank me every night. We literally pushed a bamboo train and a car that broke down within the same week. We shared a culture that we were complete strangers to and we were welcomed with open arms.
I can’t tell you how much joy this trip has brought to my life. I know it’s unlikely I’ll ever get to do this again and it was literally a trip of a lifetime.
traveling is one the of the best ways to get to know anyone as you get to share those moments and learn from them in ways that traveling together brings you
… It’s important to time with your grandparents. There’s so much knowledge and love that they just want to give you. Traveling - not only did I learn about this country, it’s history and culture but I also learned a lot about my grandpa and his past, created memories in the present and heard his hopes for the future. And I am lucky to have shared these memories with my grandpa.
if you enjoyed this video, please give it a thumbs up and subscribe! You would make my day ❤️

Interview with Srey Neang by Katey Burns
Srey Neang started a small business in Kampot in the south of Cambodia 7 years ago making tiny pillows to rest weary heads on the bone-shaking buses of Cambodia. She called it Tiny Pillows of Kampot.
Since then she has branched out into making all kinds of goodies from the traditional Cambodian krama scarves including (most popularly) MEN'S BOXER SHORTS, of an addictive nature. They getter softer and softer over time (I'm told - once worn, nothing else compares!).
Katey travelled to Kampot to collect an order of the shorts and also exquisite black linen and vibrant silk runners for apsaraliving.com.au And took the opportunity of talking with Srey Neang about the history of her business. It's an inspiring story.

#1 priority for the trip. the cultural immersion u jump into is an ideal first stop. u have to buy a ticket to get into Angkor Archaeological Park so buy ur ticket prior to the day u plan to go. u must be physically present to buy the ticket. u can visit the park for free if u can prove ur mother is of cambodian decent.
While u may be thinking, I saw temples in thailand, the structure & history behind these temples are well worth the visit. the park is SO huge. u can literally spend a whole afternoon at Angkor wat itself & we barely caught it when the park was closing. we saw Phnom Kulen Waterfall. We visited the reclining Buddha at Preah Ang Thom pagoda on Phnom Kulen Mountain & Banteay srei. One of the locations we didn’t get to visit was ta Prohm, the iconic temple that was seen in tomb raider.
When planning this visit, bring snacks & consider doing a multi day visit! & drink more coconuts!
don't forget to catch the sunrise & visit one of siem reap’s many coffee shops
we stopped by the floating village. it's a village not a market. While there’s an ongoing feud between Cambodians & Vietnamese of becoming a citizen, no one can deny that this way of living is less than ideal. It’s definitely an eye opening experience & I’d recommend skipping through this if you’re thinking it’s a scenic boat ride; rather it’s a tour of the conditions of the people floating on the river.
#battambang // palin ~3-4 hours
Battambang is more rural & country side compared to siem reap & we were able to get the best local experience because of the people we knew. We feasted each night on so many Cambodian delicacies. We visited the city right outside of Thailand border where some Cambodians were able to escape the Khmer Rouge. We rode the bamboo train which had recently re-opened. It’s like a Disneyland ride in the jungle & the experience is totally worth it. At one point it started raining & the cart stopped working so we had crashed into another cart. our driver was pretty nonchalant about it; another time we had to push the cart to get up the hill.
I had the best “Thai” tea here at this noodle place & so bummed I didn’t drink more of it.
battambang is also known for the bat caves & sites dedicated to the khmer rouge. if ur looking for a more low key, local experience, this might be the stop for u
#kampot // Bokor Mountain (Yeay Mao Monument, Popokvil Waterfall, Sampov Pram Pagoda) // Kep ~ 8 hours
hotel five.s
We saw a lot of interesting sites along the way: some of the biggest potholes; cattle taking up the entire road or factory workers piled into the back of a truck. Even though the Khmer Rouge was over 50 years ago; the country is still undeveloped in many ways
kampot is cambodia’s durian capital & is a cute river town. we added this to the trip so we could add water & it is close to kep. It's a long drive so this stop may not be for u. I loved the hotel we stayed at. The lush greenery & outdoor bathroom area was quite unique & innovative.
while in kampot, we visited baker mountain. my favorite spot is povokvil waterfall. we ended up at Nataya beach where you had to pay for entry but seeing sunset here is worth it. we went to Kep which was a must stop for us. the fresh caught seafood right off the pier is a seafood lovers dream. Thank u Mark Wiens for the tip!
#PhnomPenh ~4 hours
Sim Hotel
It's equivalent to bangkok w city life, shopping & roof top bars. u can get really good prices for really modern hotel rooms. we ventured into the city & everywhere was crowded bc of the annual boat racing

Travel Diary: Bokor+Kep
This is my very first time using Gopro so I kinda messed up with it. I lost some amazing footages because I was confused and used the picture mode. Anyway I had a lot of fun with the Gopro. It's really easy and comfortable to use( not so many people would stare at you like when you hold a DSRL) It's light so the video won't be so shaky.
Special thank to
for the Gopro experience :)

durian kampot(ทุเรียนหมอนทองกำปอด)
mr.hotsia eat durian kampot cambodia.

Things to do in Cambodia | Top Attractions Travel Guide
Few countries have left more of an impression upon me than Cambodia. I've now visited four times and each and every time I had a completely different experience. I learned what I loved and what I disliked about the country. In particular, I became fond of cities such as Siem Reap and Battambang whereas I found Phnom Penh and Sihanoukville to be less appealing. The shining star attraction I could never get enough of was the Temples of Angkor. Cambodia is a country with a tragic past; however, the future appears to be brighter as it becomes more frequented by tourists every year.

The following is a list of the top things to do while traveling in Cambodia with an emphasis on the top attractions in this travel guide:
1) Angkor Wat! Visiting Cambodia and not going to Angkor Wat is the equivalent of a traveler going to Peru and not checking out Machu Picchu. As the largest religious structure in the world you'll be amazed at it sheer size!
2) One of the more quirky attractions in Cambodia is the Bamboo Train in Battambang. For a small fee you can hop on a bamboo platform and race across rickety old rail tracks. With the wind in your hair you might - once or twice - wonder about the safety of the experience.
3) Khmer cuisine is delightfully delicious and learning how to make it is surprisingly affordable compared to the costs of cooking classes in many neighboring countries. We tried our hand at making Amok, a fish in a coconut curry base, and Lok Lak, tender beef strips in a thick sauce.
4) Trying traditional Cambodian food. We had a big platter of different Khmer delights in the heart of Siem Reap. It's worth it just to dig right in and enjoy!
5) To learn more about the tragic history of Cambodia a visit to Choeung Ek, also known as the Killing Fields, is a must. The brutal Khmer Rouge regime executed 1 in 4 of its population with many being tortured and killed here - eventually being discarded in mass graves.
6) To enjoy Khmer arts and performances I'd highly recommend a traditional Apsara show. The performance consists of several parts including a folk dance, folk music and mime.
7) Want to feel happy inside? How about trying a happy pizza in Siem Reap? Not long ago, these special Khmer pizzas featured marijuana as a topping. Nowadays, it is just spices and herbs. A pizza pie won't cost you a fortune.
8) In Phnom Penh, one of the main tourist attractions is the Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum formerly known as S-21. What was once a primary school became converted into a detention, interrogation and torture center for the Khmer Rouge. An estimated 20,000 died here between 1975 and 1978. The evil man behind all of this was Pol Pot.
10) One of my favorite temples, aside from Angkor Wat, is Bayon located in Angkor Thom. At these ruins, you'll notice many cold faces that offer a hint of a smile. If you're good at counting try to spot the 216 faces that exist!
11) The local circus in Battambang supports a great cause while offering an entertaining show. Run by an NGO helping out disadvantaged children the performances are spectacular. What was great to hear is that some of the most talented performances.
12) If you must have beach time I suppose you could consider Sihanoukville.
13) If you wake up early enough and head straight to Banteay Srei you may just have the entire temple to yourself. That's exactly what happened to us as we were the first to arrive.
14) While visiting the temples of Angkor chances are you'll hear traditional Khmer music. Many of the performers playing traditional Cambodian music are landmine victims.
15) Have you ever watched the movie Tomb Raider before? If you have you'll notice Ta Prohm. This is where nature dominates architecture.
16) Taking a bus in Cambodia is never dull. Just look outside of your window and you'll be treated to stunning scenery and automobiles that don't exist elsewhere.
17) When visiting Cambodia be sure to check out the rural countryside. We took a countryside tour of Battambang where we got to see how certain foods are prepared and we even got to try eating insects! They tasted yummy!
