Tsukishima (月島, lit. moon island) is a man made island in Tokyo Bay, just across the channel from Tsukiji fish market. It was created over 100 years ago using earth that was dredged from the bay during the construction of a shipping channel.
In the last few decades, areas of the island were redeveloped into residential high-rise complexes; however, you can still find remnants of the atmosphere of old Tokyo if you poke around the back alleys and lanes, especially around Sumiyoshi Shrine.
Tsukishima is best known for monjayaki (もんじゃ焼き), a kind of runny pancake with different ingredients, such as seafood, meat and vegetables, mixed into the batter. A large concentration of monjayaki restaurants is found along Nishinaka Street, just a few steps from Tsukishima Station.

Eating at the famous Iroha Restaurant in Tsukishima, Chuo-ku
Me and friends eating monjayaki at the famous Iroha Restaurant. The food was really good and you get to cook it yourself. They helped for the first meal. The food was very good. Make sure if you come to Tokyo you go there!
Tsukishima - River Walk and Monja Street
Tsukishima in Tokyo is one of my favorite places in Japan, and hopefully you can get a glimpse as to why that is from these clips. If you ever have a chance to enjoy walking along the river walk, DO IT!! It's so peaceful and relaxing. I love sitting and watching the party boats pass. Plus, Monja Street is a fun and exciting place to eat. :)

【Japanese food】Monjayaki on Monja Street, Nishinaka Dori, Tsukishima【月島もんじゃ夢や】
Monjayaki, I was told, translates as snack cooking, and okonomiyaki, favourite style of cooking. Japanese readers, please feel free to correct if I am wrong. I tried to make myself understood but the language barrier can be brutal.
Tokyo trip: Day 5 (Making Monja @ Tsukishima)
Tsukishima is known for Monja. Monja is like a wet version of okonomiyaki (Japanese pancake). Although it may look like vomit, it tastes like heaven. There's a street that only has monja stores and we went one of them for lunch.

The “Nishinakadori Shopping District” in Tsukishima, Chuo-ku, Tokyo is called “Monjayaki Town” and “Monjaya Street” and is full of tourists. There are currently about 75 shops in Mon Tsuya in Tsukishima, but there are a few shops with a long history, and most of them have been changed from other shops in the late 1980's Monja Boom. Most stores offer okonomiyaki as well as monjayaki.
