USS Kidd Baton Rouge, Louisiana
The USD Kidd is situated in Baton Rouge and she is well preserved. A little Wikipedia factoid on her: USS Kidd (DD-661), a Fletcher-class destroyer, was the first ship of the United States Navy to be named after Rear Admiral Isaac C. Kidd, who died on the bridge of his flagship USS Arizona during the 1941 Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. Admiral Kidd was the first US flag officer to die during World War II, and the first American admiral ever to be killed in action.[3] A National Historic Landmark, she is now a museum ship, berthed on the Mississippi River in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

WW2 Kamikaze Attack Ceremony on the USS Kidd
We took a trip to Baton Rouge, Louisiana to visit the USS Kidd Destroyer on display in the Mississippi River. The experience is one we will never forget. We went to just tour the ship and learn about the history. By coinciendence, we happened to be visiting the ship on the anniversary date it was attacked in World War II. They had a ceremony that started at the exact time the Kamikaze pilot flew his plane into the side of the ship killing 38 people on board and injuring 55 others. There were even a few remaining survivors from that day at the ceremony. It was emotional and intense to be there for that. What an amazing experience it was!

Life Aboard The USS Kidd DD-661 by Bob Bentz
My uncle Robert P. Bentz served as a Lieutenant in the US Navy aboard the USS Kidd DD-661 during the 1950's, I believe. These are his personal movies converted to digital from his conversion to VHS. The Kidd is now permanently on display on the Mississippi River in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. I visited the ship on my 10 state tour of the South in 2005 for Mobil Oil.

Destroyer USS Kidd DDG 100 arriving in San Diego home port
June 2013
The destroyer USS KIDD is the 50th ship in the ARLEIGH BURKE - class of Aegis guided missile destroyers and the third ship in the Navy named after Rear Admiral Isaac C. Kidd.
from Wikipedia: USS Kidd (DDG-100) is an Arleigh Burke-class destroyer in the United States Navy. She is the third Navy ship named after Rear Admiral Isaac C. Kidd, who was on board Arizona during the attack on Pearl Harbor, and was the first American flag officer to die in World War II. The ship is part of Destroyer Squadron Twenty-one (DESRON-21) of Carrier Strike Group Three which is currently headed by the Nimitz-class nuclear-powered aircraft carrier USS John C. Stennis (CVN-74).
Kidd was christened on 22 January 2005 at Ingalls Shipbuilding in Pascagoula, Mississippi. Commander Richard E. Thomas of Westwood, New Jersey, served as her first commanding officer until February 2008. Commander Charles P. Good of Huntington Beach, California, took Kidd on her maiden deployment.
The ship was damaged at the shipyard docks during Hurricane Katrina on the Mississippi Gulf Coast, requiring a return to dry dock for repairs, delaying her commissioning and deployment with the navy. She was commissioned in Galveston, Texas on 9 June 2007. She is currently homeported in San Diego.
On 5 January 2012, the Kidd rescued the 13-member crew of an Iranian-flagged fishing vessel, the Al Molai, from Somali pirates who had been holding them hostage for over 40 days, capturing fifteen pirates in the process with no casualties.
In the 2009 science fiction movie Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, the USS Kidd fires at and destroys a Decepticon named Devastator with a railgun (mounted in place of the standard cannon) during the movie's climactic battle in Egypt. Moments earlier in the film the captain of the USS John C. Stennis (CVN-74) queues the USS Kidd into action but the USS Preble (DDG-88) is shown instead.
detailed zoomed HD view of exterior of Fletcher class destroyer Kidd in Baton Rouge, LA
This is a detailed and zoomed in view of the exterior of a WW 2 Fletcher class destroyer, the U.S.S. Kidd D.D. 661 at a museum on the Mississippi River in Baton Rouge, Louisiana on 5/21/19. We would have taken a tour but the museum was closed. I paid particular attention to the guns, especially the AA guns. You can see 20 mm, dual 40's, and a quad 40 mm mount among others. I filmed this from the levee as that was the closest I could get.
USS KIDD - EXPLORING A HAUNTED WWII DESTROYER
We made a trip to the USS Kidd, a WWII era battleship that served in several wars and conflicts. It has been restored, yet is left in an original type condition. Since the ship is known to be haunted, we were going to use a spirit box to try to communicate with any spirits. In the end, I decided against it for this trip because I didn't want to take away from the historical aspect. We are planning a future trip where we will do a paranormal investigation.
