England's Coast to Coast Walk
Enough already with psychology. It's summer. Recently I walked the width of England on Wainwright's Coast to Coast Route: 330 km from St Bees on the Irish Sea to Robin Hood's Bay on the North Sea. If you're vaguely interested in this kind of extended walking trip, you might like this. If you're here for the mental health content, maybe not. For information on trips and luggage transport:
FYI, two photos didn't seem to make it into the finalized video and it's a challenge to upload a revised video so I haven't done it - not to worry, though, the blank gaps are only a few seconds each.

Our adventure started in St Bees on the west coast and took us 12 days to walk across the width of the country to Robin Hoods Bay on the east coast.
There were many ups and downs, quite literally however what an adventure we had! We experienced all types of weather the UK has to offer and got the opportunity to see some spectacular views.
Parking and travel
We used the Packhorse service to take us to St Bees on the first day and collect us from Robin Hoods Bay on our final day (depart 4pm). They also kept our car in a secure location in Kirkby Stephen. We would highly recommend them!

About England's Coast to Coast Trail
Devised by renowned walker and writer Alfred Wainwright in 1973, the Coast to Coast Walk is the most famous long-distance trail in the UK. At 315km or 195 miles, the Coast to Coast Walk uses a network of public footpaths tracks, permissive paths and access land to cross England’s huge variety of landscapes, terrain, villages and three unique national parks – the Lake District, Yorkshire Dales and North York Moors.
Walkers are encouraged to dip their boots in the Irish Sea the before setting off and in the North Sea at the end of the trail.
Starting in the tiny Cumbrian seaside village of St Bees, the trail climbs steeply into the Lake District National Park, home to spectacular lake and mountain scenery, before crossing classic rolling farmland, the Pennine Hills and the mystical cairns atop Nine Standards Rigg.
Follow the beautiful River Swale to the historic market town of Richmond before leaving the Yorkshire Dales to cross the low-lying Vale of Mowbray and linking up with the North York Moors National Park. From here the trail undulates spectacularly before depositing you at Robin Hood's Bay.
As you make your way across the Coast to Coast trail on foot or by bike, enjoy staying in specially handpicked hotels, guesthouses and pubs, where you’ll come to appreciate just how much a full English breakfast will set you up for a long day of walking or cycling.
Because of the popularity of this trail, people often fall into the trap of thinking that it is easy. However, our trips on the Coast to Coast trail are amongst our most challenging but rewarding tours in Europe.
Experience the diversity of England by choosing a guided or self guided walking or cycling trip on the Coast to Coast trail.

Eric Robson joins the master fell walker and shares the highlights of his 190 mile walk from St. bees Head in Cumbria to Robin Hood's bay on the North Yorkshire coast.
This classic but unofficial long distance route was devised by Wainwright in 1972 and traversed what Wainwright described as, ' the grandest territory in the North of England'.
Two thirds of the route lie within three National parks and today AW's achievement is regarded by discerning walkers as the finest long trek in Britain.

UK's Coast to Coast Walk in 6m30s
This is the coast to coast walk in England, from St. Bees to Robin Hood’s Bay, covered 3 national parks.
The tradition is to pick a pebble from west coast, carry all the way to east coast, and deposit to North Sea. I picked two, called this journey “Two pebbles’ walking holiday”. “Walking holiday” is the British way to say “Hiking trip”.
Each year, about 10,000 people walked this route, most of them from west to east to avoid head wind. The route goes through a lot of pastures, gate has to be locked.
There are different routes. The lower one is 192 miles where most of the people walk, but I did all the high routes, through mountains, about 210 miles. I heard someone did it in 37 hours, I was not that fast, I finished in 12 days.
My longest day was 13 and half hours walking straight. I got up at 3am, left hotel at 5, 11 hours later, arrived at the most dangerous part, called striding edge. Two days before I was there, a man fell off the cliff and died. I was very carefully and make it to the hotel safe.
It was very beautiful, but dangerous: the route was poorly marked, and went through lot of boggy moorland. I even had no idea what bogs meant before this trip. You will see a lot in the video. Anyway, I survived, but do not recommend anyone to do it alone.
For 12 days, rain or shine, with these two pebbles, I crossed England on foot. I was a little emotional by the time to say goodbye to one of them. And I will carry the other one with me to the next adventure.

Embrace The Journey | 200 miles along Wainwrights Coast To Coast
The Wainwrights Coast to Coast path begins in St Bees in Cumbria, then runs across the country through the Lake District, Yorkshire Dales and North York Moors National Parks, ending in the coastal village of Robin Hoods Bay in North Yorkshire. It's a journey just shy of 200 miles.
Abbie set out to walk and camp the trail in June, completing it in just under 11 days through a searing summer heatwave that hit the UK. It made for scenic walking through mountains and forests, across fields and dales, and along moors and coastal cliffs. Along the way she courageously shares the challenge of managing her ongoing mental ill health whilst on the trail, openly revealing the highs and lows that made the walk more than just a hike across the country - it became a journey of discovery, healing and perspective. A walk, she says, that she will forever hold close to her heart.

Walking Coast to Coast: Alfred Wainwright’s steps in England, UK
Please feel free to sponsor my walk. All of the money raised will go directly to the school:
I am walking the Coast to Coast path, following Alfred Wainwright’s steps, around 200 miles from St. Bees in Cumbria to Robin Hoods Bay in North Yorkshire at the end of April to the middle of May this year.
As this is a big challenge for me ( I am in my 60s, a solo walker), I thought I would add a good cause to it. As a retired teacher, I believe in good education and I would like to raise money for the school my grandchildren attend, Broomfield Primary School in Chelmsford, Essex.

Coast to Coast Walk | England | 4k Drone Video
The Coast to Coast Walk. A stunning 14 day and 309km hike that my father and I walked in July 2019. I brought my drone and shot footage whenever I could. This is the end result. And if you like what you see, please subscibe and leave me a comment! There's more to come!
The trail, that was thought out by Alfred Wainwright, passes through three National Parks: the Lake District, the Yorkshire Dales and the North York Moors. 309 kilometres of blood, sweat and tears, but above all a whole lot of joy and amazement. I found this one of the most beatiful places I've ever visited and would recommend everyone that likes walking to do it!

The Coast to Coast Walk, 190 miles over 14 days
Wainwright's Coast to Coast Walk is one of the most popular long distance trails in Britain, and one of the world's great walks.
It is an exhilarating adventure, and once completed will be an achievement that will be in the memory for ever.
But what is it like walking the 190 miles from St Bee on the Irish Sea to Robin Hood's Bay on the North Sea? It is certainly challenging even for the experienced walker. This video gives a walkers eye view through rain, wind and sun following A Coast to Coast Route Guide produced by Tony & Chris Grogan (Skyware Press 2014
UK Coast to Coast Walk - Oct 2015 - Pt 1/3
In October 2015, Andy, Helen, Tracy and Jo, assisted by Ritchie of Badger Adventures, walked 308km across England following the Wainwright Coast to Coast walk from St Bees to Robin Hoods Bay. We walked for 16 days across three National Parks, the Lake District, Yorkshire Dales, and the North Yorkshire Moors, doing about 20km per day. We were guided by professional guides. All food, accommodation and baggage transfers were included. I would highly recommend Badger Adventures. This is the first third of our walk.
Coast to Coast Walk
Wild Camped from 3rd July to 16th July 2015
The classic route by Alfred Wainwright was intended in part to encourage others to devise their own routes, walking coast to coast connecting the Irish and North Seas. This particular route also links three National Parks taking a high level traverse wherever possible. From the west, the coastal plain is crossed to, and through, the Lake District to Shap, followed by the crossing of the Westmorland limestone plateau to Kirkby Stephen, a climb across the Pennine watershed to reach Keld and over Gunnerside Moor and Melbeck Moors to Reeth and Richmond to the low level Vale of Mowbray, before again achieving height across the North York Moors. Between Keld and Reeth you have a choice to take the high level route or a low level route through beautiful Swaledale.
The revised edition (2017) of Wainwright's original guidebook includes marked alternatives to his original route where there was no public right of way or where erosion issues have required seasonal route options. These are clearly identified in the text. The original maps have been updated by Chris Jesty.
