Matterhorn Solo Attempt Mountaineering Climbing Zermatt Switzerland
For more tutorial videos and gear reviews, check out our website for guided Switzerland and Joshua Tree rock climbing trips!
This summer I went to Switzerland and made an attempt on the Matterhorn via the Hoernligrat. Unfortunately I was moving too slowly because I got lost in the dark so often, and had bottlenecks around the Solvay hut. Luckily for me the guides informed us that the snow conditions above Solvay were not good, so I had a great excuse to abort my attempt. Ill have to come back again when conditions are better. It was a lot harder than I thought it would be!

Switzerland Walking - Doldenhornhutte Climb
Short video made up of clips shot when we walked from Kandersteg up to the Doldenhornhutte (1915m) which is run by the Swiss Alpine Club. This is a really nice hut, the walk up has some tricky little sections but nothing too concerning and the ascent takes on average about 2.5 hours from Kandersteg. If you do go up there do also look over the back of the hut where there are views over the Oeschinensee which can be easily be missed.
Why you Absolutely MUST Visit Zermatt, Switzerland + the Matterhorn in the Swiss Alps!
My pitch as to why you Absolutely MUST Visit Zermatt, Switzerland + the Matterhorn in the Swiss Alps! -- for more
Climbing The Matterhorn is SCARY!
Two years ago, (sept 2014) I was fortunate to be part of a team of journalists who were sent by Switzerland Tourism and Zermatt Tourism to cover the 150th anniversary of the 1st climb up the Matterhorn. I really didn't know what I was getting myself into...and quickly found out that the Matterhorn is not an easy mountain to climb. We first practiced on the Breithorn, then moved onto the big mama Matterhorn. It was a huge challenge, both physically and mentally. It pushed me to the edge and was a very humbling, yet powerful experience. I'm still taking away lessons that I learned on that mountain.
*The Matterhorn is actually more deadly than Everest.

Walk with us in the Swiss Alps - Beautiful Summer Day Hiking in Switzerland DJI Mavic Air
We often like to find new paths/trails to venture upon. This time around our route took us about 8 hours to complete, climbing nearly 1 kilometre incline, at a distance of approx. 14-15 kms each way. Fantastic (and tough) hike. Not bringing sunscreen with me- and wearing a sleeveless shirt... not very smart on my part.

There's little worse than spending a day getting once a in a lifetime shots, and coming home only to see issues with the data (corrupt files, card errors, etc). About Us: I'm PJ. My partner, inspiration, trainer, chef, and moral compass, Risa, are what we (reluctantly) refer to as, digital nomads. I say, reluctantly, as I've been living the digital nomad lifestyle for about 15 years now (long before the term was coined, and became the cheesy trend it is today. It seems that everyone these days on vacation with a laptop, a pina colada next to them, Avicii on their headphones, and a dozen memory sticks filled with selfies now considers themselves a (don't forget the hashtag) digital nomad.
I started out at age 19.
I quit my job at the time, to focus on the then still relatively unknown arbitrage business model as applied on eBay. Long story short, I saw an opportunity, invested all I had in it (time + money) and by my early 20s, I no longer had any interest in returning to Canada (where I grew up). I bounced mostly around Asia, for many years (all the usual nomad hotspots: Thailand, Vietnam, S. Korea, Singapore, Malaysia, Taiwan, with a preference for Japan (lived all over Japan, from Tokyo, to the most remote Japanese islands in the Pacific). In late 2013, one of my returns to Tokyo, I met a captivating young woman, Risa, who helped me to re-calibrate my high-flyin', rock-star lifestyle and regain focus. Within a few months of meeting, she elected to quit her job in Tokyo and joined me on this nomadic journey.
This channel, will document our perpetual traveller lifestyle. It's not always easy, it's not always fun. There are highs and lows. Sometimes money is very tight, other times it seems like it's the least of our worries. But when done right, the digital nomad lifestyle is a journey unlike any other.
Over the last few years, we generally stay off the beaten path and instead venture into areas seldom spoken about in digital nomad circles. You won't see us visiting Bali, Saigon, or Bangkok. Been there, got the SIM card, and still feel a bit hungover. As we travel, we focus on personal growth, on disconnecting, unlearning, and thus thriving. We attempt to engage in philanthropy when we can. We respect the cultures kind enough to allow us to visit their land and their homes. Feel free to send us feedback, comments, suggestions.
Thank you for taking an interest in our journey. More videos of exotic places, stories, and people, will be uploaded weekly. As a demonstration of my gratitude to you for taking an interest in us, I will continue improving the quality of the content I create for you on a regular basis.

Climbing the Monte Rosa, Zermatt, Switzerland
Video of a two day, one night climb in the Monte Rosa range near Zermatt. We climbed 3 4,000m peaks (Breithorn, Pollux, and Castor) and stayed overnight in the Sella Hut. It was an enjoyable glacier climb on generally very moderate terrain with some points of exposure. If we had more time we would have stayed one night in the Margharita Hut and climbed Duforspitze. Climbing here is very easy as the huts are full service so you don't have to carry much! This was shot in July 2013
WORLD'S MOST FAMOUS MOUNTAIN (Zermatt Ski Resort)
The location of Zermatt at the foot of the Matterhorn and in the middle of an enormous hiking and ski region makes it one of the world's most attractive vacation villages. The ski region encompasses 54 mountain railways and lifts as well as 360 kilometers of pistes. The region called Matterhorn glacier paradise is Europe's largest and highest lying summer skiing region. Numerous national ski teams train here in the summer.
The region is legendary amongst mountaineers: the Haute Route, a challenging international route that takes several days to complete, leads from Mont Blanc to Zermatt. Over 400 kilometers of hiking trails lead through and out of the Matter Valley, including the mule traders' trails, which date back to the 13th century (a part of these paths is paved).
In winter, the snow-assured ski region offers 360 km of pistes in three varied ski areas: the Sunnegga-Rothorn, Gornergrat-Stockhorn, Schwarzsee and Matterhorn glacier paradise. Snowboarders and freestylers are able to hone their skills in the Snowpark Zermatt in which Olympic hopefuls also train. A crossover to the Italian ski region of Breuil-Cervinia and Valtournenche is possible from the Matterhorn glacier paradise / Theodulpass.
Those in search of something different can try their hand at paragliding or off-piste heli-skiing accompanied by an experienced mountain guide.
Walking, cycling, climbing and high-Alpine tours are popular activities in summer and autumn. Every year, the four-thousand-metre summits attract many Alpinists. 400 km of walking trails also guide guests who are not overly adept at climbing through the mountainscape around Zermatt.
The cog railway operates between Zermatt and the 3089-metre-high Gornergrat. The summit offers up spectacular views of the Matterhorn, the glaciers and the Monte-Rosa massif.
At 3883 metres in altitude, Europe’s highest vantage point able to be reached by cableway also offers a fascinating panoramic vista of the Matterhorn (4478 metres) and summits of the Swiss, Italian and French Alps. The glacier palace can be admired 15 metres beneath the ice surface. Six ski lifts as well as a cableway provide access to the Matterhorn Glacier Paradise, the highest summer ski region of the Alps on the Theodul glacier.
Child-care is offered throughout the year in the Zermatt – Matterhorn family resort. And everywhere you see the fun loving «Wolli» mascot, children come first! Lamb Wolli accompanies you on the climate theme path, kids under 9 ski for free in the whole region - and whoever wants to ice-skate at the rink, investigate a cheese dairy or hang around in the climbing hall can! Crystal-clear mountain lakes to swim in further entice, adventurous nature days and exciting visits to the Forest Fun Park.

Gornergarat | Zermatt | Matterhorn Switzerland VLOG : Travel video in April
Our travel experience to Gornergarat, Zermatt from Zurich by train and cogwheel train in April 2018.
The Gornergrat (3,089 m) is one of those places that everyone should visit at least once in a lifetime. The mountain panorama and the glorious view of the Matterhorn are unforgettable.
Gornergrat Bahn , the Europe’s highest open-air cog railway brings passengers direct from Zermatt station (1,620 m) to the summit of the Gornergrat, 365 days a year. The ride takes 33 minutes and requires a vertical climb of 1,469 m. The line leads over dramatic bridges, through galleries and tunnels, across forests of larch and Swiss stone pine, and past rocky ravines and mountain lakes.

Zermatt Day and night
“Zermatt Day and Night” is a song and video describing the magic of the Swiss resort Zermatt in the winter time. It talks about the fascinating world famous Matterhorn mountain, the many activities offered in this unique town which allows no motor cars, and mostly reachable by train only, the beautiful panoramic views of mountains and amazing skiing and mountaineering. It describes the fun atmosphere conveyed by leisurely outdoor lunching facing the Matterhorn, with high quality musical entertainment in mountain restaurants and terraces, as well as after skiing and at night all over town. “Zermatt Day and Night” lyrics and music were written by Michèle Halpern, who is also the sole singer of the song and video. The musical arrangement and music production were done by Darin Brown of New York. The song was recorded at Infuse Music Media studio in Manhattan, New York. The video was filmed in 2019 by Jonathan Viey, an independent filmmaker and photographer specialized in outdoor sports and nature activities and based in Montreux, Switzerland (jonathanviey.com). Zermatt Day and Night Lyrics:
Deep in the Swiss mountains
Stands between you and heaven
A magic giant rock, which changes looks
Wherever you stand
It towers the edge of a small town,
You must reach on a train ride this jewel crown,
Then stroll, hail an electric cab,
There are no honking cars, no pollution
For a day or the season
They come, from the world’s far horizons
To feel in their heart the seduction
As their eyes meet the empress of mountains
In Zermatt,
Day and night,
You will find the most beautiful rides, the most beautiful trails, the most beautiful sights;
Your first time,
You will find,
That you’ve come
For the charm, for the town, for the proud Matterhorn…
Endless glaciers and mountains
Cradle your journey in heaven
While you walk up or down
Ski, surf or climb
Or just please your eyes
While mountain goats on the rocks climb
And marmots whistle as you walk by
Ski down the immense alpine grounds
Gornergrat or Rothorn,
Sunegga Paradise
Ride the Klein Matterhorn bahn,
Onto Italy, ski the Ventina down,
Beware not to miss the last ride
From Cervinia, come on!
Shuss down the Swiss side!
In Zermatt,
Day and night,
You will find the most beautiful rides, the most beautiful trails, the most beautiful sights;
It’s your time
To unwind
Since you’ve come
For the sports, for the fun, for the proud Matterhorn…
Feel the buzz of this cool town,
Hear its gifted musicians,
While you lunch in altitude cafés
And tune to their songs echoed from the mountain
A must, coming down from your ski day,
Stop at the Hennu Stall bar on the way,
Where all dance, singles and married lovers,
Seniors and youngsters
On tables will sway
And later when you’re back in town
Rock at the Paperla Pub wild legend,
Or club at the Postli Pink,
Sing along at Snowboat,
Or the Grampi Gee’s
In Zermatt,
Day and night,
You will find the most beautiful rides, the most beautiful trails, the most beautiful sights;
You’ll come back,
To Zermatt,
Cause like all, you’ll have fallen in love, and left part of your heart, in Zermatt!

Switzerland 2018: The Haute Route (DOCUMENTARY)
Video Created By Brad Rindos
This is a video documentary detailing Crew 8's 100+ Mile, 11 Day Hike through the Alps of Switzerland. Crew 8 is a youth led venture crew from Chatham, New Jersey. In the summer of 2018, they packed their backpacks for the Haute Route. The Haute Route is a historic walking trail in Switzerland, traveling from Mont Blanc to the Matterhorn, and is used by townspeople, farmers, and merchants to get from village to village.
After completing a 126 Mile trek at Philmont in 2016, the boys suited up once again for an international trip before the senior crew members headed to college. The Switzerland idea brought about a whole new set of complexities: we would need to communicate in French and German, navigate public transport, and traverse MUCH steeper inclinations/declinations. Though a shorter trek than Philmont by distance, our crew gained more elevation than the height of Mount Everest.
As Crew 8 is youth led, youth leaders Brad Rindos and Matt Goldstein were responsible for planning routes, food, accommodations, and fundraising before departure. Once on the trail, the youth were responsible for executing plans, ensuring safety, and making decisions.
The trip was a massive success. Besides being more versed culturally, all 11 participants have grown in scout spirit, teamwork abilities, self-confidence, and friendship. They would like to thank their families for all their support.
