Mountain Sheep By Seward Highway - [Living in Alaska 110]
The Seward Highway (South of Anchorage) offers some truly breathtaking views but if you look up the side of the mountain, chances are you might see these guys! They're called Dall sheep and they are currently on the red list of threatened species with only about 27,000 of them. However, if you decide to take pictures of these animals, be respectful! Not only of the sheep but the other photographers and videographers as well. Making a threat on a pure assumption is no way to make a good name.

Leaving Anchorage, I headed to the southern end of the trip, the southern coast of Alaska, to the port city of Suard. I stopped at Matanuska Glacier on the way to Suard. The Matanuska glacier can be explored on foot. Helmets and ezens must be worn to explore glaciers. He set foot in the glacier for the first time in Alaska. The glacier exploration guide walks unceasingly. By the way, when I first stepped on a glacier that was rugged and scored, it was not easy to walk on it. When I looked at it from a distance, I could not figure out the size of it. Glaciers stretching along the valley are about 43 km long, so you can not walk all day long. In the summer, the glacier water flows into the crevasse like a stream. Ice water is pure water without any impurities, so you can just drink it. However, this glacier is also rapidly declining. It is because it is getting less and less snow. As the temperature gets warmer, there is not a lot of snow, so we can not push the glacier. As you can see here, the glacier is melting. The top of the glacier every day melts by 2.5cm. In a year, 9 meters are melted. Glaciers have been around for hundreds of thousands of millions of years. But we have bitter thoughts that we have been removing glaciers in just a few decades.

Use weather is good the tour was a light aircraft tour to Mount McKinley. Tal kit or the three rivers makin the color of the river combined with a stem made of binghasu near other reason is that due to differences in the types and composition of the stone-carved glacier. About 10 minutes passed unfolds in front of the magnificent glaciers incredible. The whole width of the glaciers down from Mount McKinley is 8km, length of 40km. The thickness of the ice is nearly 1.2km. The crevasses are some places that seems to be at a depth of 800m and glaciers around.

Suddenly, the ships began to gather at one point. I think I found something. What did it show? At this time, people point to something with their hands. A white water column is visible. Humpback whales! The winter humpback whales in Hawaii and Mexico swim over 5,000 kilometers in the spring to Alaska. The humpback whale, knowing that no one is hurting herself here, dares to reveal its tail slowly. After a while, finally the Columbia glacier begins to look far away. It gets colder and colder near the glacier. The blue drift ice from the glacier is filling the ocean. Allow the crew to get a piece of glacier and touch it directly to the passengers. There are too many drift ice. In the glacier, the ice continues to fall off. Ten million tons of ice drops a day. Ten million tons a day! Looking at the small scattered drift ice, I can see how enormous it is. If there are so many drift ice, the ship can not move forward. Unfortunately, I had to come back because I could not get near the Columbia glacier.

next day. I decided to take a helicopter to Columbia glacier. Fortunately, the weather is very sunny, and the view from the sky is a different feeling from yesterday. Yesterday I went only by the sea, but today I fly over the mountains to the Columbia glacier. Over the top of the mountain, a white snowy field appears. At first glance, it looks like a snow field, but it is actually a clear blue glacier. We go a little further here and we see a huge glacier. I wanted to see Columbia Glacier! I could not keep my mouth shut in a majestic glacier. The area is 1.5 times that of Seoul, so you can not even imagine the scale. The Columbia Glacier, full of crevasse, is a place that never allows people access. Landed on the beach 2 kilometers away from the glacier. A glacier just looks like a huge ice block, but it actually moves like a creature. At this moment, it is constantly flowing down from the mountain to the sea. But now, it is said that the glacier is melting faster than the speed of movement due to global warming. The Columbia Glacier is the second most active glacier in Alaska. I'm going down about 30 meters a day. Maybe someday this glacier would disappear completely? It is too bad to think.

Young And Galvin In Dead Heat In Alaska
The midterm elections are just a few days away.
According to the Anchorage Press, Congressman Don Young is in a dead heat to keep his seat.
Young is the longest serving member in Congress. He's served for 45 years.
Alyse Galvin is an Independent running as a Democrat.
It may be close vote between the two on Nov. 6, in the state’s general election.
The prevailing view is that red-state Alaska isn’t yet ready for a moderate congresswoman, despite Galvin’s energy and team-building.
In the latest polls Galvin is up by one point.

We almost DIED in Spencer Glacier calving - Alaska 2019
My buddy Josh (@steeringsouth) and I rode the Alaska Railroad out to Spencer Glacier Whistle Stop and tent camped over night at Spencer Glacier. We went kayaking in the glacier bay in our Intex K2 Explorer kayaks and witnessed a MASSIVE event as a chunk of a glacier calved about 50 foot from us and created a 10-12 foot wave. We were pelted with chunks of flying ice and buckets of water. To say we are lucky to be alive is an understatement. It was an absolutely stunning phenomenon to witness (and survive) . We learned our lesson and will give glaciers the space they deserve next time we are out exploring. Footage captured using GoPro Hero 7 Black.

The typical human body contains roughly 0.1 μCi (14 mg) of naturally occurring potassium-40. A human body containing 16 kg of carbon (see Composition of the human body) would also have about 24 nanograms or 0.1 μCi of carbon-14. Together, these would have an activity of approximately 2×0.1 μCi or 7400 decays (mostly from beta decay and rarely from gamma decay) per second inside the person's body.

I headed back to Anchorage. I came to the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center on my way. It treats lost or injured wild animals and sends them back to nature. There are wild beasts like bison, deer, and wolf. But the animal that represents this place is a bear. Brown bear likes meat eating but enjoys fresh grass in early summer. It is likely to be mistaken as a bull from a distance when a brown bear is grazing. Nowadays, the guy who is taking over the cuteness of people is a black bear. He loses his mother and lives in the city behind a trash can. But a bear who does not learn to hunt himself when he is a child can not survive in the wild, and says that he should live here all his life. I heard these explanations and the innocent bear bear seemed very grateful.

Faces of Alaska: Mr. Whitekeys - Full Program
Alaskans know Mr. Whitekeys as a comedian, a musician and a Spam-loving night club impresario.
Whether you know him from his days behind the piano at the Fly By Night Club, his popular stage shows like The Whale Fat Follies or his regular commentary on local television, chances are you've never had the chance to get to know the man behind the loud Hawaiian shirt.
Alaska Public Media's Ellen Lockyear recently sat down with Keys - as he likes to be called - at his studio in Anchorage to get a better sense of how he came to Alaska, and why he's chosen to make this place his home - and his muse - for over 40 years.
