Things to do in York | UK Breaks | P&O Ferries
A beautiful city in the northeast of England, and located just over an hour from Hull port by car, York offers visitors plenty to see and do during a day trip or short break. A walk around the city walls, which measure 3.4km making them the longest medieval city walls in Europe, will give you great views across York – see if you can pass the 5 main gateways and 45 towers to complete the whole loop. For more medieval adventures, head to the Shambles, a network of narrow winding lanes and home to the best-preserved medieval lane in the world.
History lovers should definitely visit York Minster, a 7th century building boasting handcrafted stonework and impressive stained glass windows. Climb up the Minster’s 275 stairs to reach the highest point in York, and take in the wonderful views below. Throughout the year, you might be lucky enough to see York Minster’s famous choir, or can take part in one of the many family-friendly events that take place here.
When it’s time to eat, there’s no place better than Betty’s Tea Room. Choose from an extensive menu of breakfast, lunch, or dinner options, and indulge in one of a number of amazing desserts. Alternatively, order their famous afternoon tea, you won’t be disappointed! If you’re still craving sugar, pay a visit to York’s Chocolate Story where you can learn all about how chocolate is made, see some of York’s best-loved chocolate brands, and watch very talented chocolatiers at work. Don’t forget to pick up some treats from the shop to take home, or stop off at their café for a luxurious hot chocolate or one of a number of tray bakes.
There are also plenty of things to do in York for those looking for a cultural trip. The York Castle Museum will take you through the city’s history with the help of interactive galleries, fascinating artefacts, and loads of exhibitions, and the National Railway Museum will teach you about all things locomotive!

York. Medieval city centre | England #1
A visit to York. The first written attestation of a settlement at this location is from around the year 100 CE, but archaeological evidence proves that people have been living here much longer. This historic city in northern England has been known by many names over the years; as Eboracum by the Romans, Eoferwic by the Anglo-Saxons, and as Jorvik to the invading Norse. The city of York was important during the Middle Ages as an ecclesiastical and macro-regional centre. The many surviving medieval buildings and fortifications still attest this importance. Chief among the historic buildings are the York Minster, one of the largest medieval cathedrals in Europe, and the amazingly intact city walls.

CASTLE HOWARD NORTH YORKSHIRE
Hello Everyone!!
Welcome back to my channel :)
In this video I have given a short tour of Castle Howard which is in York United Kingdom.
Castle Howard is a stately home in North Yorkshire, England, 15 miles north of York. It is a private residence, and has been the home of the Carlisle branch of the Howard family for more than 300 years.
Castle Howard’s 1000 acres of parkland are a mixture of sweeping vistas, lakeside terraces, woodlands, temples and statues and formal gardens. With so much to enjoy, you can easily spend a day exploring the vast grounds. Children will love the lakeside adventure playground and can run wild in the gardens with a free children's trail leaflet.
So if you are planning to visit York, I recommend you should visit Castle Howard.

UK - 46233 running 2 hours late - Cambs to York, 17/12/2015
Ex.LMS 4-6-2 number 46233 Duchess of Sutherland heads The Christmas White Rose, running from Cambridge to York, on 17th December 2015. We first see the train running about 90 minutes late at Grassthorpe crossing, north of Newark in Nottinghamshire and then catch a fine side-on shot at Bawtry, South Yorkshire. The train has lost its path on the East Coast mainline and has had to spend extra time at its water stop, causing it to lose a further 30 minutes. A West Coast Class 47 (or 57) assists at the rear. I have included a variety of modern traction to add some interest!
