Chile - Road to Arica besides lake Chungara and Parinacota volcano - South America, part 68
Chungará is a lake situated in the extreme north of Chile, in the Altiplano of Arica y Parinacota Region in the Lauca National Park. It is the 29th highest lake in the world (and the 10th highest in South America). It is near the volcanos Parinacota (20,827 feet or 6,348 metres) and Pomerape (20,413 feet or 6,222 metres). It was formed 8000 years ago, when a major collapse of the edifice of Parinacota produced an avalanche of 6 km³ of debris which blocked drainage pattern, thus creating the lake.

Huffington Post:
The town of Arica Chile in the north of Chile is a perfect place to visit for those who suffer from OMBROPHOBIA. What is that? It is the fear of rain and Arica, Chile is the city that never rains! Travelling through Chile offers drastic change as the north of Chile, including Arica, is completely dry and the south of Chile is lush and a temperate rainforest.
In the state of Arica y Parinacota, the Atacama desert stretches through much of the state making the surroundings sandy, dead, and dry. However, every morning in Arica you can look out your window and no matter how cloudy it is, you can be sure it will not rain.
I left Bolivia the day before and crossed the border near the Lauca National Park in the north of Chile before taking the 4 hour ride to Arica where I had an apartment booked. After a good nights sleep, I ventured into the town of Arica to do a little exploring and climb the Morro de Arica, which is the big rock which looks over the Chilean town of Arica below.
I have a long link to Arica, Chile as years ago when I was travelling again through South America I met an incredible group of girls from here in Arica, and our lives will be forever intertwined. That was one of the reasons for coming to Arica, and it was nice to connect with them before travelling further south through Chile.
More videos of Chile to come as I will be exploring more parts of Arica and then heading further south out of the Arica y Parinacota region so stay tuned.
