The palace was originally the holiday home of a Russian merchant, Grigory Jelisejev, and later the summer residence of the Estonian head of state. It was built in the Italian renaissance style by Gavril Baranovski, with park designer Georg Kuphaldt. The 57-room three-story building was completed in 1899. Shot 02/15/2010 6:24 p.m. Snow Storm hits Birmingham, AL February 15, 2010. I happen to be near Vulcan Park and decide to document the storm atop Red Mountain. The wind is blowing constantly from the north. The snow is falling parallel to the ground. It is blowing so hard no snow can't accumulate on Vulcan or his pedestal tower. The snow just bounces off the lens of my Leica D-Lux 3 camera.
