This forbidding medieval castle, once home to the counts and dukes of Savoy, now houses the Préfecture and Conseil Général of the Savoie département. The gardens and the Cour d'Honneur (courtyard) are open free-of-charge, but to see the 14th- and 15th-century Tour Trésorerie (Treasury Tower) and the stained glass inside the recently restored Ste-Chapelle, built in the 15th century to house the Shroud of Turin, you have to take a tour.
Château fort, princely palace and emblem of the power of the Counts and Dukes of Savoy, the castle of the Dukes of Savoy includes a remarkable set of buildings built from the thirteenth century to the present day. The princes who ruled this state for nearly nine centuries and the many administrations that have succeeded each other have left a strong imprint. Since 1860, year of the meeting of the Savoy to France, the prefecture and the general council of the department pursue this administrative function.
The Château des Ducs de Savoie or castle of Chambéry is an old castle , the xi th century, which stands on the town of Chambéry in the department of Savoie region Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes. Modified several times since the xiii th century, it has retained ever since an administrative role. The chapel of the castle sheltered, from 1502 to 1578, the Shroud . In its tower is currently installed a large bell called St. Francis de Sales consisting of 70 bells , the work of the Paccard Foundry in Sévrier
The castle now houses the services of the Prefecture of Savoy , the departmental council of Savoy and the Academy of Savoy. As historical monuments : the former castle of the Dukes of Savoy is the subject of a classification by decree of August 10 , 1881, the large living room decorated with a Louis XVI decoration is the subject of a classification by decree of the April 20 , 1960.

Mas La Tour - Uzès - Gard - France
Located at the entrance of the beautiful village of St Siffret, 4 km from Uzès (approx 30 km from Avignon & Nîmes), Mas la Tour hosts 2 splendid residences.
The tower is a medieval hunting dwelling from the 16th century. It has been fully refurbished. The tower has a vaulted ceiling in the living room and a small kitchen. One large bedroom with independent WC + 3 small bedrooms (2 double & 1 single with sloping ceilings) with a complete bathroom and WC. It can accommodate 6-7 people.
The ‘mas’, an 18th century ‘ferme fortifié’ has 2 floors 150 m² each, recently renovated. Large open-plan kitchen/dining room. 2 large bedrooms & 2 medium bedrooms. The ‘mas’ has 2 living rooms: 1 with a fire place (25m²) and a large one (60 m²).
Every building has its own private garden framed by old stones (1.800 m²). The whole property is 8.000 m². The private swimming pool (12 x 4 m) is located outside the private gardens and it is common to the tower and the 'mas'.
The two villas are surrounded by a charming friendly garden. Swimming, reading, playing badminton, cooking with fresh products of bustling local market badminton playing... Both houses are ideal for a group of friends or family. Both properties have a common swimming pool with splendid sunbathing spots.
If you love fruit trees and organic farming, this is the place for you. Property has olive trees, prune trees, cherries, peaches and mirabelles. The local countryside boasts ancient vineyards and olives trees...Take part in olive tasting at special olive oil producers.

If you want some cultural activities, go to Arles, with impressive Roman arena and theatre. Avignon with the Pope's castle, and Nîmes with its Roman ruins are only at half an hour away by car.
Properties can be rented separately the whole year except July and August.

General consensus is that this 96 St Paul lends credence to the wisdom of buying cheap on good vintages. The theory is that even idiots make pretty good wine during the years when the growing climate is so ideal. One has to try very hard to screw up, but of course, there will always be a few of those, but odds on that even the lesser known labels like Chateau Saint Paul, a Cru Bourgeois of Haut-Medoc, Bordeaux would turn out pretty good, excellent if you consider value for money.
On the nose, the cassis, ripe black cherries and a bit of tobacco notes built up a complex bouquet. The color indicated a bit of maturity, a little unexpected considering that is merely 15 years of age, nothing in the scheme of things of Clarets. On the palate, any worries of premature ageing disappeared. Although not a blockbuster nor a 90+ point wine, it is nevertheless a stunning example of an age-worthy red wine from the left bank. Balance is excellent. The wine is medium-bodied, with engaging flavors, an unobtrusive backbone, firm but supple, good acidity, again, not dominant, and a tightly knit long finish. This 1996 red wine from Haut-Medoc was in no hurry to go away. The wine should drink well for another 5 to 10 years.
This is exactly the kind of wine that one can't stop until the bottle is finished. Why waste time talking about it when all you want to do is to drink some more, and some more...
