Entry Title: Thoughts on Paris...
Entry:
To quote the words of Cole Porter (as best sung by Ella Fitzgerald): I love Paris in the Springtime I love Paris in the Fall I love Paris in the Summer when it sizzles I love Paris in the Winter when it drizzles I love Paris every moment of the year... ...and boy did it drizzle, nearly every day we were there! Hmm, what is there to say about Paris that hasn't already been said? After several trips to this city on the Seine it still managed to surprise and enchant me. Here are some of my favorite moments: *Enjoying a morning cafe au lait and croissant at our neighborhood sidewalk cafe with Simon *Watching the Eiffel Tower turn its lights on at dusk *Retracing old haunts and favorite places in the Left Bank (Les Deux Magot, Rue de Buci) and the Marais (Place de Vosges), the Louvre and the beautiful Musee D'Orsay *Exploring new arrondissements and window shopping the mouthwatering fromage and wine shops, patisseries and boulangeries *Visiting new places that I hadn't yet been to: Montmartre and the Sacre Coeur, Versailles, Napoleon's Tomb, Cernushi Museum *When asking the Parisians Parlais vous Anglais? hearing their pesky response Parlais vous Francais? If we did, would we be asking? *Enjoying a wonderful dinner with friend Maxine and family (husband Pascale, children Pascale, Lily, Callum & Liam) in her home in Chelles for an absolutely wonderful evening. Our hotel was in the 17th arrondissement just off the Villiers metro line. It was a wonderful neighborhood with a community feel to it. Families young and old, political activism, and work a day life. I spent an afternoon on the internet at a brasserie while the owner peeled potatoes for the evenings pommes frites and sang to her grand-daughter in a high chair. We watched local men congregate and make their daily bets on horse racing at the coffee shop. Rue Levis was filled with wine, fromage, chocolate and coffee shops, charcuiteries and poissonniers and hosted a daily market full of fresh fruits and vegetables. Nearby, is Park Monceau, a beautifully landscaped park filled with children, runners and dogs, surrounded by some of Paris' finest old mansions and small museums. With a laundromat on our street, we didn't have much reason to leave the neighborhood! Food was a highlight as we indulged on steak and pommes frites, french onion soup, chaussons aux pommes and other delectable pastries, gratin dauphinois, croque monsieur and Coquilles Saint Jacques. I laughed when my Veggie Plate came in traditional French style (with utter contempt and disgust at the thought of vegetarianism) consisting of rice, pasta, gratin and yes a green vegetable...haricot verts! And let's not forget those baguettes - so very crunchy and soft, freshly baked and warm out of the oven. Just for fun we started a baguette count, of how many people we saw carrying baguettes down the street. In 7 days, in the 17th arrondissement, we counted 77 people carrying baguettes. Given the following conditions: there are 20 arrondissements in Paris, we witnessed only 1 hour of 12 potential waking hours per day in the 17th arrondissement, and on average each person was carrying at least 2 baguettes, one can deduce that there are approximately 5,280 baguettes being bought, carried and eaten on a daily basis in Paris. I believe even this is a gross under estimation. And yet it is true, French women (and men) are NOT fat, and I don't understand why not with all of the carbohydrated bread they eat! Oddly, I found myself in a predicament: I was trapped in Paris waiting for my Indian visa. Admittedly, there could be worse places to be stuck, but after waiting 10 days (on what should have been a 1 or 2 day process) my budget was wearing perilously thin in the romantic city of lights. By this time, I had missed one purchased flight to India and Simon had skipped two scheduled flights to London. Maxine and family were overwhelmingly generous in letting us stay at their house to wait out the visa while they enjoyed a ski vacation at Chamonix. We indulged ...

The term B-Boy indicates originally a dancer break dance. Over time, the term has been used in the most general which includes anyone in the area of culture hip hop. The term breaker, originally a synonym, keeps the original meaning, and has been coined the term b-girl to refer to girls. B-boying could come from the African boying referring to the style jumped (bouncing) that had the young African-American in the seventies. At that time also, he was usually dance with hats snow that had the classic ball of wool hopping continuously during the dance.
The b-girl is the female counterpart of b-boy culture hip hop. The term refers specifically to a girl who practice this style of dance. The term has been used since the beginning of hip hop in the seventies. Some b-girls are famous Bunny Lee (the first female member of the Rock Steady Crew ), Baby Love, Roc-a-fella. Asia-One.
The break dance is an acrobatic dance developed by African-American youth communities and Latin America in the Bronx since 1968. DJ Kool Herc coined the term b-boy to identify young people who danced down on the ground, during her breaks in the music street parties of 1972. The origins of this type of dance is uncertain. By convention, his birth is established around the late sixties - first half of the seventies, by young African-American and Latino communities in the South Bronx of New York.
The fashion of break dance arrives in Italy at the beginning of the eighties in the film Flash dance and developed in tandem with the hip-hop movement. Since the worn quote break the beat endures, the music continues to be the main ingredient of break dance. The most common feature of break dance music consists in so-called break, or compilations formed from samples taken from different songs, connected and linked by a DJ, where time is generally between 120 135 bpm. Kool Herc is credited as the inventor of this concept, who later became the father of the break beat, music created entirely starting from break and the so-called hip hop music.
Most of the instigators have an African background and were leading figures in the American entertainment world of the seventies. By the eighties, as a result of media coverage of break dance, transmission Soul Train cycle conducted by Don Cornelius became the showcase for many artists and dancers, continuing to influence the way of dancing of b-boys and those who practiced other styles hip hop dance.
The study of the technique and moves, is matched to that of some factors that determine the level of expression and a spectacular session break dance. The b-boys are successful in the community, when they invent or innovate moves and perform in accordance with the rhythm and melody. The events of break dancing are generally events at which b-boy and b-girl can dance in the circle led by the music of one or more DJs. Among the various events it is the contest, the block parties, the jam and so on.
The breaking is exactly half way between dance and dance. It is a dance, since it is used as a social practice and is a dance as it implies the study and training. The original mode where the B-boying is expressed is through the circle. According to Hugues Bazin ( The Hip Hop Culture, 1999 ), the environment sub-urban living by the first b-boy allowed to break dance to be inspired by real life to further his artistic research. Since the breaking are reinterpreted socio-cultural practices in Africa, the element ritual is very strong and it denotes the aesthetic and cultural meanings. The break dance performance while still making the places characteristic of folk dances (streets, nightclubs, private parties) prove to be the result of a search expression.
Since its inception, the breaking has provided a youth culture and alternative construction, compared to the violent reality of urban gangs. Today, the culture of break dance is a remarkable discipline that combines the skills of dancers and athletes. Since the acceptance and growth is centered exclusively on the skills that prove, that culture is practically without distinction of race.
