SRI LANKA TRAIN JOURNEY: Colombo | Kandy | Adam's Peak | Nuwara Eliya | Ella on Sri Lanka railway
Visit to start your adventure.
When it comes to the great railway journeys of the world, nothing beats the culture, scenery and experiences of the slow train up to Hill Country Sri Lanka. Jump onboard here:
Few other railway journeys in the world could come close to this. Riding the rails might not be the first method of transport you think of when visiting the island, but Sri Lanka train journeys offer a serious wealth of cultural and scenic splendour. And the train from Colombo to Ella along Sri Lanka’s historic, hill-hugging tracks is the greatest of them all.
The line was originally built by the British to transport Ceylon tea from the colonial plantations to the capital for export. Today it stitches together the epic landscapes and the must-see travel destinations of, Kandy, Hatton and Nuwara Eliya, Ella and Wellawaya. This makes a few days riding the railway into Hill Country a simple and unforgettable way for travelers to experience some of Sri Lanka’s true highlights.
Along the way you’ll visit Colombo, the Royal Botanical Gardens Peradeniya near Kandy, the Temple of the Tooth, Adam’s Peak, Hatton tea plantations, Ceylon tea estates, Nuwara Eliya, Jetwing St Andrew’s hotel and Ella before relaxing in the oasis of waterfalls, forest and paddy fields that is Wellawaya and Jetwing Kaduruketha.
The views, the experiences, the places and the people – you could make this railway journey a thousand times and never tire of it. Visit jetwinghotels.com/islandinsider to start your adventure.

Special Note for the Viewers:
I’ve done this video to make other human beings aware of the beauty of this place and please don’t misuse this information in order to ruin this place. I’ve spent so much of time/money bringing this to you so that you may enjoy it. However I’ve a very kind and humble request from you all.
Should you ever visit this place, you’re kindly requested to adhere to the following in order to save our Mother Nature (essentially Our Country) not only for the future generations but for the current one as well:
* Avoid careless/reckless/irresponsible/money-oriented/mega tour groups or organizers.
* Travel in smaller groups as Mother Nature can’t afford so many footprints at once.
* Minimize the use of polythene/plastic and do bring back if you have to take any with you.
* Don’t litter and even if it’ bio-degradable, please bring it back and dispose of the garbage properly and responsibly. Because no matter what it is, it will still be alien to that environment.
* Use reusable water bottles so that you don’t have to keep buying plastic ones. It’ll not only save you money but will help save nature massively.
* Remain quiet and vigilant. Don’t disturb the tranquility of the nature. Instead savor it.
* Try and bring if you spot any litter/garbage left behind by other careless travellers.
* Don’t light fires unnecessarily and do try to use portable cookers instead of using firewood when camping. The increase usage of firewood leads to more deforestation even at a smaller scale.
* Don’t bring any plants back with you or break any plants/branches unnecessarily.
* Don’t walk off the designated footpath.
* Don’t use soap/detergent/shampoo when bathing in natural streams as they’d only lead to the contamination of those pure water sources and elimination of wildlife species.
* Don’t do anything that harms the Mother Nature.

CITY OF GEMS : ratnapura sri lanka
#travelvlog #srilanka
The people of the town depends on the gem trade. Gem pits common site in the surrounding area. Most of the large-scale gem businessmen of Sri Lanka operate from Ratnapura. There are considerable numbers of foreign gem traders in the city too who have recognised the value of the gems found there. Among the foreign traders, Thai (Thailand) traders are in the majority. Every day, large number of traders from suburbs and other towns gather in the town centre to sell or buy gemstones. Large-scale merchants collect gemstones from locals and sell them in the international market. Some traders go out of the city to buy gems. This includes neighboring towns like Kalawana, Bogawantalawa, and Ela-era. After the discovery of world-class alluvial sapphire deposits in the valley of Ilakaka in Madagascar, many Ratnapura merchants travel out of the country to Madagascar to buy gems.
