Chaloos Road trip - Inside Iran | جاده چالوس
Road 59, also known as the Chalous Road or Kandovan Road, is an important road for people of Tehran, a large number of whom drive to popular tourist attractions in the north of Iran on weekends and for holidays. This road is one of the busiest roads in Iran. There is a tunnel in this road that name Kandovan. Kandovan tunnel built in four years from 1935 until 1939 without technology! that's amazing.

After arriving in Tehran I went straight to one sight I haven’t shown you in my episode from Tehran yet…but it totally belongs on your list: the Tabiat bridge.
My road trip through the north of Iran started on the next day with the goal to introduce you to as many things to do in the north of Iran as possible. For this I was fortunate enough to go with local friends of mine as we needed to drive quite a lot to get to all the places in just one week.
This part of the trip was executed within 1 week - following I list all the places I visited & Things to do in the north of Iran:
- Alamut Castle & Alamut Valley
- Rasht
- Masuleh (Gilan province)
- Ramsar & Caspian Sea
- Bam e Sabz
- Tabiat bridge in Tehran
This video is part of „Inside Iran“ - a documentary series introducing you to popular and unknown sights / things to do in Iran as well as the Persian cuisine and the super friendly locals we met on our trip from Tehran to Isfahan, Shiraz, Yazd and now also the north of Iran. With this series I want to create a better understanding of the country and it’s people without focussing on politics or religion.

Lake Valasht, Travel to IRAN | دریاچه ولشت، کلاردشت
This lake is in the south west of Chalus and north east of Kelardasht Area among deep valleys. It is about15 hectare and its average depth is 20 meters. Water capacity of the lake is estimated to be about three million square meters and it contains fresh water. That is why it has become the shelter for migrative birds, fish and other sea creatures.all those interested in mountain climbing, desirable weather, fishing and staying in a peaceful and ideal environment can choose this place to spend time. You can access the lake through Marzanabad and the western side of Chalus Road.
Valasht Lake was registered I the list of Iran’s natural heritage on 15th of Mehr 1388 by the Culture Heritage Organization.
here is some of visitors comment:
*Quiet, unknown, great scenery
the truth is Iranians choose the north of country very often as a destination, and it really gets crowded during their holidays. but this Valasht Lake is one of those places they don't know very well. so it is quiet and you can feel free to enjoy the scenery. it has a long way going up and down the mountains, of course with great scenery, and then at the bottom of the mountain you will reach this beauty.
I recommend it to hose who visit the north of Iran, not to those far away from it. if you visit Tehran, you can also pay a visit to the north.
Good Luck
*wonder to recommend
i draw at least around 30 minutes in a road without asphalt & road sign to reach to the lake . based on some local instructions, after around 10 minutes driving from Kelardasht we reached Kaleenoo ( the village which the lake road starts from the main and asphalt road) . too bad access road without any road sign , without any safety accessories like as guard rail ,... leads you to the Lake . after around 30 minuets driving in a sever condition you see the Lake . in respect to the slope of the road which is not standar and what i mentioned above visiting of the lake is not recommended in a rainy day or in the witer by no way . its a pretty small lake with numerous visitors in a hot day . there was no watch in the lake and whole area for the girls and boys who liked to spend time together ( which is not normal in my country ) . unfortunately there were only limited food services or facilities like as boating to enjoy your visit of the lake .
in my idea Valasht is not a must to do for foreigners but for the Iranians who are interested in nature it may be an enjoyable day tour
*Amazing Place but needs to provide better roads
This place is like heaven between mountains and really it was difficult to reach as we were family with small children those who got borring from the road specially it was mountain un asphalted roads which made it difficult but at the end when we reached the lake everything changed about thinking.
Very beutiful clean lake with few services available like boats, shops for tea and for snacks. unfortunatly, the people there shooting the prices very high and this was not acceptable at all.
at the returning road, please dont take the shortest way which is really short but very tough specially if you dont have 4WD car.
our driver (mini bus) tried to make the raise of the bus around 20 minutes and got to make it very difficulty.
*Lost paradise
very nice and cozy. A diamond between the mountains. But no amenities, no WC , NO restaurant, no hotel, very bad roads, excellent air and pure oxygen, great for fishing
