Explaining the NEBRASKA Sandhills! Road trip on Highway 2
My husband and I are on a 12 day road trip through the United States, and in this video we finally got to see the Nebraska Sandhills! They are a national natural landmark and they're beautiful! In the video I'll tell you all about this fascinating landscape, and I'll explain the effect the Rocky Mountains have on Nebraska's vegetation. We spent the night at Arrow Hotel in Broken Bow. If you're wondering why we suddenly changed our clothes, it's because some shots of this video are from the day after ;) We continued on Highway 2 after spending the night in Broken Bow and the Sandhill shots are taken between Broken Bow and Alliance.

More West Virginia Northern Railroad (cab ride-runby-more cab ride!)
Here's some more from my trip on the West Virginia Northern Railroad taken on May 12 1996, including TWO cab rides! Starts off with us walking up to our loco, #50, and hopping in. I decided to leave most of these sequences intact as many of you like hearing the conversation with the train crew. We pull into Tunnelton WV then head up to the CSX interchange for a quick look around before departing the area. After a runby from an interesting vantage point we're back in the cab-of #52 this time. We'll also get a crash course on locomotive operation! Then your bullfrog takes over, and the rest...
It was fun running the switcher! Had dynamic braking, which the train crew seems to favor. I did OK-for the most part-just at the end I threw the brakes on just a little too quick!

Mansfield is a city in the U.S. state of Ohio and the county seat of Richland County. Because of its geographic location, the municipality is part of Northeast Ohio and North-central Ohio regions in the western foothills of the Allegheny Plateau, approximately 65 miles (105 km) northeast of Columbus and 69 miles (111 km) southwest of Cleveland. Mansfield lies midway between Columbus and Cleveland via Interstate 71.
It was founded in 1808 on a fork of the Mohican River in a hilly region surrounded by fertile farmlands, and became a manufacturing center owing to its location with numerous railroad lines. After the decline of heavy manufacturing, the city's industry has since diversified into a service economy, including retailing, education, and healthcare sectors. The 2010 Census showed that the city had a total population of 47,821, making it Ohio's nineteenth largest city.
According to the 2010 Census, the Mansfield, OH Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA) has a population of 124,475 residents, while the Mansfield-Ashland-Bucyrus, OH Combined Statistical Area (CSA) has 221,398 residents.
Mansfield's official nickname is The Fun Center of Ohio. It is the largest city in the Mid-Ohio region of the state, the north-central region which is generally considered to extend from Marion, Delaware, Knox, Morrow, Crawford, Ashland, and, Richland counties in the south, to the Firelands area south of Sandusky in the north. Mansfield is also known as the Carousel Capital of Ohio, Danger City, and Racing Capital of Ohio.
