There are many things you need to consider when you’re about to retire. One of them is the weather. Australia’s climate varies depending on which part of the continent you’re in. It’s mostly tropical in the northern states while the southern states have cooler winters. It’s also one of the driest countries with an average annual rainfall of less than 600 millimeters. In fact, retirees can enjoy an entire year of sunshine in Queensland and New South Wales!
Jill and Owen Weeks, authors of the book Where to Retire in Australia, said that although the needs of retirees vary, they generally want good climate, relatively low cost of living, top medical facilities, low crime rates, and leisure places. Australia no doubt fits the bill for these criteria.

Starting from Devonport, visiting the Leven Canyon, hiking on the top of the Cradle Mountain National Park, driving along the remotest lands on the east side until the Nelson Falls and the Frenchman’s Lookout, walking along the Lake St. Claire, camping on a hill in Ellendale enjoying a stunning Milky Way, challenging the strong wind of the Mount Field National Park, till the cold walls of Strathgordon, coming back to the civilization in Hobart for the first shower before to have a dip in the frozen restoring water of South East Cape, tasting the oysters in Bruny Island, exploring the massive cliffs and watching the wales of Tasman Peninsula and Cape Hauy, visiting friends in Richmond and enjoying a glass of wine on the top of Mount Amos in front of Wineglass Bay, camping on the Bay of Fires shores and below the St. Columba Falls, talking by the fire surrounded by millions of beetles in the wilderness of Water House National Park, along the hills of the Great Lake, before the last unforgettable night in Hobart, ended with a last cheers in Launceston.

The Tasman Peninsula is another amazing part of Tasmania rich in both natural and convict history. A must see place.
Tasmania 2018
On the long weekend, we took a trip to Tasmania. Roadtripping from Launceston to Hobart and back, we explored quaint towns like Ross and Richmond, drank wine with a view at Coal Valley Winery and Devil's Corner Cellar Door, ate some of the best seafood we've ever had at Blue Eye and Get Shucked, and met some of the most loveliest people at our AirBnB and Montacute Boutique Bunkhouse.
Cold, but incredibly beautiful, Tasmania is definitely on our list of places to explore more in the future.

Family friendly Swan Valley - Perth
We spent two days in Swan Valley, located just 25 minutes drive from Perth city. The beautiful Oak Tree Cottage was a holiday let located in Mundaring amongst the woods, and provided a lovely base from which to explore the surrounding area taking in Mundaring Weir and Caversham Wildlife Park. The wildlife park was a hit with our little one! Plenty of cosy nights by the fire, great food and wine, and even BBQ's in the winter!
We only had 2 days, so time was limited especially with a 14 month baby in tow! Although Swan Valley is Western Australia's oldest wine region, we did not get a chance to visit any wineries due to time constraints and keeping little one entertained! We had to wait for Margaret River for a taste of the wineries.
