Crete island was the centre of Europe's first advanced civilization, the Minoan (c. 2700–1420 BC). The archaeological site of Knossos Palace, famous for the legends such as Theseus and the Minotaur or Daedalus and Icarus, is just one of the miracles.
Besides the legendary historical places, Crete offers you a wide variety of beaches, such as the best-known turquoise lagoon of Elafonissi, or a wonderful 6-hour walk tour in the famous Samaria gorge.
Greece is known for its hospitality, Crete island is one of the most popular tourist destination in the country. Visitors can reach the island via international airport of Chania and Heraklion, or by boat to the main ports of Heraklion, Chania, Rethymno, Agios Nikolaos and Sitia. The ferry route takes 8-9 hours from Athens (Piraeus).

Crete Island has some of the most beautiful beaches I've ever seen! The three Greek beaches we visited are:
-Elafonissi Beach in West Crete: in the town of Chania is an amazing pink beach of Crete. Imagine pink sand and green-blue waters! It's one of the most popular beaches in the WORLD!
-Balos Beach northwest of Chania was my FAVORITE beach in Greece. It's SO photogenic. A lagoon visit of a lifetime!
-Seitan Limania Beach is northwest of Chania, Crete. It lays between the steep cliffs of the peninsula. Of the three beaches, this is lesser known but absolutely gorgeous!

Crete island is one of the most popular tourist destinations, the island amazes its visitors with stunning landscapes and wide variety of beaches. You can find exotic sandy beaches as well as deep blue sea with great waves. The island has an area of 8,300 sq. kms.
Lefkada (or Lefkas), a small Ionian island with an area of 330 sq. kms, is renowned for the bluest blue sea, the west coast of the island offers breathtaking views of the Ionian Sea. Porto Katsiki Beach and Egremni Beach are incredible sights, the colour of the water is beyond imagination.
Zakynthos (or Zante) is a small island in the Ionian Sea with an area of 405 sq. kms. Its world famous scenery, the Shipwreck (or Navagio) Beach, is an incredible site to behold. The island is a nesting place for Caretta Caretta turtle, you can spot really big ones in the sea.
Corfu (or Kerkyra) has an area of 610 sq. kms. The small Ionian island with its green vegetation, is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Greece.
Pelion peninsula is usually out of the focus of the tourists, never overcrowded, yet full of natural beauty. On the shore of the Aegean Sea there are scenic beaches with exotic blue water.
