Travel Greece - Visiting the Amphitheater of Epidaurus
Take a tour of Epidaurus Amphitheater in Epidaurus, Greece -- part of the World's Greatest Attractions travel video series by GeoBeats.
As the large, scenic amphitheater at Epidaurus, Greece reveals, the ancient Greeks took pride in their theatrical history.
The theater was an important part of Greek, and later Roman, culture, being an entertainment center for plays and performances.
Built in the fourth century BC, the amphitheater was used for hundreds of years before being lost to history for a time.
The original Greek theater had thirty-four rows of seats and when the Romans gained control of the town, they added twenty-one more.
The most famous feature of the Epidaurus Amphitheater is the acoustical qualities that allowed the actors' voices to easily reach the whole audience.
During a performance, the beautiful Greek countryside is a constant backdrop for the audience.

Located on the fertile Argolid plain of the east Peloponnese in Greece and blessed with a mild climate and natural springs, the sanctuary of Asclepius at Epidaurus was an important sacred centre in both ancient Greek and Roman times.
Epidaurus was named after the hero Epidauros, son of Apollo. Inhabited since Neolithic times, the first significant settlement was in the Mycenaean period. Fortifications, a theatre and tholos tombs have been excavated dating as early as the 15th century BCE, although it was in the 12th century BCE that Epidaurus Limera, with its harbour linking it to the Aegean trade network, particularly flourished.
Getting There
The Ancient Theatre of Epidaurus is situated within the archaeological site of the Sanctuary of Asklepios, in the Argolis prefecture of the Peloponnese. It is a half-hour drive from Nafplio and approximately two hours from Athens.
TRAVEL VLOG || MY ROAD TRIP TO NAFPLIO TOWN PART TWO|| PLACES TO VISIT IN GREECE.
Old Nafplio (or Nafplion) is one of the most beautiful towns in Greece. The former capital of the country may remind visitors of the Plaka in Athens, but it's on the sea. With two mountains crowned by medieval fortresses overlooking the town and the small island fortress called the Bourtzi that once protected the harbor, Nafplio is full of restaurants, shops, cafes, beautiful old buildings, hotels of all catagories and a beach that you can walk to in ten minutes. For people who want to visit an island but don't like boats, Nafplio is a good alternative and just a 2 hour drive from Athens. It is also convenient to the important ancient sites of Myceneae, Epidavros, Nemea, Argos and Corinth. Nafplio has a mild winter (they grow oranges here) and is one of the best places to visit in the off-season.
Ancient Corinth - Greece HD Travel Channel
In ancient Corinth in Greece, only the remains of the Temple of Zeus bear witness from the archaic city. Otherwise, the ruins are strongly influenced by the Roman past. In the centre of the Agora one can still recognize the speaker's platform where the apostle Paulus had to justify himself before the Roman dictators.
The well house of the Peirene Fountain is in good conditon; Peirene, a nymph in Greek mythology, is said to be the daughter of the river god Asospus. Many statues once surrounded the large pool.
The wide Lechaion Road, the main shopping street of Ancient Corinth today, still conveys the vitality of yore.
From the theater, only the foundations are still visible.
The adjacent museum displays rich murals, mosaics and sculptures.
A mighty citadel rises on a hill above the ancient town. Byzantines, Franks, Ottomans and Venetians have all left their traces here.
